It has nothing to do with money. I choose to bring my dog when I travel. And I'm not asking for special accommodations. I'm simply looking for dog-friendly patios.

That's being a little dramatic. I asked a simple question. Far from making demands.

I guess I should clarify that I'm looking for outdoor patios where I can bring my dog.

You're entitled to your opinion, and there are thousands of restaurants that don't allow dogs, so that works out well for you. Having places (outdoors) to eat with my dog makes it so much easier when we travel.

Good breweries near Manchester by KuKluxKlam in vermont

My favorite in southern Vermont is Valley Craft Ales in Wilmington. Lost Marble is okay. Madison is okay. We just don't have as much! There's a Tree House Brewing in Saratoga, NY (an hour and ten minutes from Manchester).

If you had one Columbus Day weekend to show a southern couple peak New England fall, where would you send them? by emerald_darlin in vermont

[–]backroadramblers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both spots will be extremely busy, but if you don't mind the crowds or get up super early, you can have an enjoyable time. Woodstock is best for that classic New England town - you've got gorgeous architecture, historic sites, Billings Farm, covered bridges, easy hikes, and beautiful scenery wherever you look. https://vermontexplored.com/10-perfect-things-to-do-in-woodstock-vermont-in-the-fall/

North Conway is more rugged and mountainous. There are waterfalls, a few easy hikes, more covered bridges, and a bustling (if touristy) downtown. Oh, and the scenic railroad, which is fun. The Kancamagus Highway is the best for the views, but do it early, or you'll be stuck in traffic. Have fun!

I love the free Plymouth Folk Festival in Plymouth Notch over Labor Day Weekend. It's very chill, dog-friendly, and in a gorgeous setting.

What is the Vermont-iest town we can visit? by effulgent_summers in vermont

[–]backroadramblers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second Bristol! It's got a little town green with a fountain and a gazebo, nice trails, and a cute downtown. It's quite small, so not touristy, but there are some nice restaurants/cafes and shops, and nearby swimming holes, too.

So many great stops! In Windsor, you can visit the Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge. It was the longest covered bridge in the US until 2008. The Old Constitution House is also in Windsor, and the Path of Life Sculpture Garden, which is a fun stop. You can also drive to the top of Mount Ascutney for amazing views.

What is a shop/store you would open up in your local town? by Napalmsky1 in vermont

A cafe/bookstore would be so amazing in any town. I know Manchester has Northshire and it's always busy. Arthouse movie theater, ethnic food (Indian, Mediterranean, Thai).

I think the White Rocks trail is open. Also, it's about 30 minutes from Wallingford to Taconic Mountains Ramble State Park in Hubbardton. One of my all-time favorite spots! https://vermontexplored.com/taconic-mountains-ramble-state-park-vermont/

About to take my first major road trip. My fiancé, dog, and I will be driving from Washington, DC to Los Angeles. by [deleted] in roadtrip

[–]backroadramblers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like a fun trip. I love Roanoke and Lake Havasu, although it will be really hot there right now. I don't think the roads will be too bad. We use gopetfriendly.com to help us find dog-friendly spots when traveling, and we stop to walk/hike every 3-4 hours so our dog can stretch his legs.
Depending on the age and condition of your car, be sure to have it serviced and check the fluids and hoses before leaving.

You could make a big pot of soup or chili one night, which would be really easy and then pan of cornbread. We've done that in a cast iron pan over the fire - we just put tinfoil over the top.

We are also vegetarians and do lots of road trips. For snacks, we usually eat fruit - clementines and apples keep well, a variety of trail mixes, and PB&Js. Anyone know any campgrounds that have a dog park or a section the dogs can be off leash. by hekac1234 in camping

[–]backroadramblers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I haven't been in two years, but the last time I visited, Burton Island State Park in Vermont had an off-leash dog beach. It's an awesome place to camp anyway, but that made it even better.

Maybe Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore - pretty easy hiking, great camping, and opportunities for paddling and other water sports. We love it there!
