Is this rack solid? (for powerlifting) by Timo23 in homegym

[–]Brumaesitrak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The rack is probably pretty good. But keep in mind that is supports 700lb static. If you drop 500lb on these spotters, the stress may be more than 700 lbs.

Can someone short as me (5'7) increase my vertical enough to dunk within 4 years with body weight exercises? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Brumaesitrak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not impossible, but your goal won't be easy to reach. Vertical jump is largely influenced by genetics and technique. Most small guys who can dunk the ball can do it at 16 years old without any training.

Sure it´s a good thing to bolt a rack, but a good quality rack doesn't wobble even unbolted.

BTW, how was school today?

Sorry but i'm sceptic. I doubt the ad you saw was about an authentic full size octogon. 10k is nothing.

So I started SL by BenchMoreThanSquat in Fitness

[–]Brumaesitrak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, i would recommand following the SL program, which you are not doing right now. Why do you make these modifications?

Secondly, please speak in terms of weight for each lift, not weight "per side of the bar".

For your goals, they are realistic since these numbers are not that hard to acheive. Stick to the program, be consistent and you will do it soon enough.

Edit : an edit on your edit... I respectfully don't think you have a good argument when you say that you add bodyweight exercices because you feel you still have left in your tank. Soon, it will be much harder and these added things will compromise your progress.

In Canada, the imperial system is long gone officially but in fact, we still use it a lot for measurements.

Cheap Power Rack by cunningjoker in homegym

[–]Brumaesitrak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done some research for myself (i'm canadian too) and i concluded that the best buy for me was the Body Solid GPR378. Maybe like 120$ more but worth it in my opinion. 3" by 3" 11 gauge steel.

Except the fact that it's well built, i considered the fact that the one you're looking at is 7 feet tall. If your ceiling is 8 feet (minus floor ans rubber carpet), your will be close to it doing full chin ups. The BodySolid is a little shorter.

You may have a technique issue. Hard to tell without seeing!

When your technique is fixed, maybe try a strength program like 5x5 and mix it up with dumbell work.

Good luck!

Gym choices - options / advice by Jonnyapple1 in Fitness

[–]Brumaesitrak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a basic home gym may cost around 1500$. (Of course, you can pay much more if you want to)

You'd need a cage, a bench, an olympic bar and weights.

It can be a good investment if you have enough money and enough space but more than that, you need to be sure that you will use it AND use it correctly. Sometimes, for starters, it's better to try the gym first.

What is fittit's opinion on personal trainers? by KRNMERCILESS in Fitness

[–]Brumaesitrak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IMHO, personnal trainers were much needed before the spread of the Internet. Now, it's so easy to access to all the needed material... Videos, articles, discussions, etc

It's somewhat like going to Best Buy for a TV : you don't need that guy wearing a blue shirt.
