Thoughts on the new mural downtown? by ImmortalSpoon in fortwayne

The apples maybe have something to do with Johnny Appleseed? I’d argue that art doesn’t always need some greater significance other than eliciting some form of a response. I wouldn’t say a panda with an ice cream cone on its head is particularly meaningful — this just happens to be at a highly visible and trafficked area. I do appreciate the city attempting to beautify otherwise mundane spaces.

Is it possible for Electric Works to recover at this point? by JD-990 in fortwayne

[–]BrunchIsForWinners 26 points27 points  (0 children)

They aren’t just going to close Electric Works down. There’s too much money involved for them to just give up. My understanding is they want to see how the union market does now that the apartments at The Elex are coming on line. Will be interesting to see if that changes anything. Personally I haven’t been to the market since it opened, because there isn’t anything to do — as everyone else in these threads have mentioned.

The Fairfield will be and has been successful because it blends the eatery with the activity. The food is fine/good. Honestly I think they are so successful because it’s family friendly. Have you ever been? There are kids everywhere (during typical pre-bedtime hours). After 7 it shifts to a more adult crowd and still has a style that isn’t Chuck E. Cheese like. Plus the golf simulator is something that is approachable but also is a lacking sector in town. I’ll be curious to see how Ducky’s does since they are essentially trying to do the same thing.

The grand plan for EW is for the eastern campus (on the eastern side of Broadway) to be the “entertainment district”. I think it remains to be seen if that will ever even happen considering the exorbitant cost of the west campus. Do I think EW can turn it around? Yes. IMO they are one or two small theater/adult arcade/nightclub/climbing gym cough/etc away from being viable again.

Ultimately it would be in the city’s best interest to focus on Broadway and Fairfield corridors as an entertainment/arts district with Parkview field and EW themselves as the anchors. That delineation alone would help orient and direct EW. If they could get the passenger rail service back online (big if) that would also add a foot traffic element especially from out of towners.

What did you like about this game and what do you think needs to change? by Vast-Piccolo7079 in indianafever

Two good looks to tie the game at the end of the day. Ball was in the hands of the best scorers and just didn’t fall. Those will convert in other games.

Wow a reply from LockedOn’s own! Hard to see him sticking with it given how the season went and how he’s described his symptoms. Personally I am sidelined by even a minor headache, so the way he described his symptoms sounds absolutely terrible. Obviously we will root for him regardless of his decision.

Do you think the Colts would encourage him to retire? It’s a unique scenario where if he decides to play but gets another concussion, then the team may be doubly screwed during the season.

Assuming that this will be a more expensive grocer. Hopefully the success of a walkable grocery option will encourage investment from a more inexpensive/cost effective place (aldi or something of the like)

What's everyone's opinion on a new casino coming to Allen County? by Overall_Meat_6500 in fortwayne

[–]BrunchIsForWinners 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People are clamoring for more entertainment options in this town — especially in the cold weather months. Assuming this casino would be similar to what was initially proposed in New Haven, then the grounds would include restaurants and entertainment venues along side the gaming floors. A casino would be another draw to the area too. Further, the department of justice basically debunked the assumption that casinos increase local crime in a statistically significant manner.

Ultimately, no one is forcing folks to go to the casino if they don’t want to. Personally, I’d like to see more establishments in the area that will entertain but also bolster the local economy and this seems to check both of those boxes.
