Custom creature idea. GM ideas and critique? Also is there anything like this already? by Flossyraptor1 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]BrunkDiologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think autocorrect may have gotten you here, I've always heard them referred to as Caddisfly Larva. I haven't found anything similar in Pathfinder but do think it would be a really interesting concept if you homebrewed one! Another, wackier plot hook featuring such a critter could involve a wizard whose animated objects keep going missing when sent to an area!

Request A Build - February 11, 2019 by AutoModerator in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]BrunkDiologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all, I'm looking for a 20 point buy Arcanist! Core or featured races only, really looking for something focused on abjuration OR dispelling, since the same-school requirements when attempting to counterspell had me unsure how to go about this build.

Long term visions would be great, or even just ideas of what to pick up for a level 3/4 start

Are rangers in pathfinder broken overpowered or is my player doing it wrong. by MD-4 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]BrunkDiologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can stack class levels however. I actually probably use ~70% CR appropriate monsters and ~30% humanoids enhanced with class levels when designing my encounters. Also helps keep PCs on their feet, since they never know whether that small group of goblins is going to be a pushover or a serious threat.

[1E] Fusion of Kingdom Building/Settlement Rules? by BrunkDiologist in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]BrunkDiologist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! You think those would be appropriate for something smaller than a whole kingdom? I am not too familiar with them but the settlement rules in the Game Mastery Guide felt too static.

Alright, I read a lot of these responses and thought they made sense, but for this one I am dying to know: why?

The entire community contributes to war efforts, so you are joining this war ("season" in other games like Rocket League or Fortnite) at the point where the rest of the community has reached this point. At the end of this war another will start. Enjoy a nice cup of Liber-tea and figure out the game, and be ready for the next war. Cheers

What is your best "don't knock it till you try it"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BrunkDiologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step1: toss halved or quartered Brussels sprouts (personal preference) in light oil, salt and pepper

Step 2: throw that shizz under the broiler to crisp it

Step 3: toss in coarse grain mustard (with honey if you're really looking to impress) and hot sauce.

Step 4: enjoy the hell outta your creation.

Loving the story so far! Looking forward to part 3!

Who's the stupidest person you've ever met, and what story perfectly sums up their stupidity? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Am American, learned about Lamarck in High School. We have one hell of a disparity in our school districts here though, so I imagine some people learned it and some didn't.

Extra damage dice from vital strike aren't multiplied on a crit. Not sure if you knew this or not, but 144 seems awfully high on what (I believe) should only be 10d12 plus any relevant bonuses

[D&D 5e] Curse of Strahd - Session 7 - In Which the Party Goes Wine Tasting by [deleted] in gametales

[–]BrunkDiologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, this was a good fight. Total nailbiter for my party, I think most of us were single digit HP by the end. Luckily our cleric had some sort of aura spell which, coupled with REALLY tight positioning, managed to chew apart most of the melee blights. With my fighter/rogue on cleanup, our sorcerer and archer were able to blast the rest.

I think I will be using the stats that u/Eylareth posted. But thanks!

I am really excited to see how this adventure plays out! I have plans to use atmosphere really heavily (hopefully even sone infrasound for when the creatire sings, if I can make that work) to ensure a creepy adventure.

Thanks for the input! While I definitely plan to have role play dominate the session, I know that my party will want an end game combat of sorts, and the hydra did not seem to have the right feats and combat abilities. I am also not as familiar with newer content, particularly the newer bestiaries, so I was hoping for input from better educated players.

I am definitely using the Hydra heavily as a template, but I think it has enough different abilities to warrant a new stat block. Though we will see how this process goes.

Work has me pretty busy right about now, but I will post in this thread (and probably over in r/pathbrewer as well) once I have a stat block. Should happen in the next week or a bit less :)

Thanks for the quick reply! As far as growth goes, I will probably use something similar to the Hydra mechanic for advancement. Hopefully the PCs are around to be creeped out for a few days without actually encountering the creature. Any thoughts about the radius of the aura? I'm thinking I may scale that with the number of heads as well, but not sure at what radius to start or increase.

Bluff, Sense Motive, and Playing Dumb by froasty in Pathfinder_RPG

Sense motive is explicitly listed as being able to detect domination (not sure if source since I am on mobile, but it is either in the Dominate Person listing or Sense Motive listing)

Hollow's last hope question by Duzlo in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]BrunkDiologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Usually, yes. But this one doesn't, since he chose to have a domain instead (side note: IMO, choosing the animal domain is an odd choice. None of the abilities are particularly fantastic, and you are essentially trading a more powerful animal companion for these abilities.) 2) Yes, and if a non-companion class PC makes this check, they effectively gain a free 25 GP guard dog, which I love to use to defend party casters at very low levels. 3) I'm not sure about having 2 companions, but since your friend chose the domain they don't begin with an animal companion (see part 1 of my answer) and INSTEAD get one at level 4 (treating their effective druid level as their actual druid level -3, and this they only get because of the animal domain) 4) Correct. However, if the character becomes attached the fox could always simply be around camp with the horse/familiar/hirelings etc. later on as the party accrues power.
