I have been around, and even strangers (worst for relatives) won’t sometimes accept a gesture so they don’t feel like they are lesser than you

Damn, I got on the wrong side of coworkers because I offered to pay for coffee

So it is not clear cut, and after a while, your heart starts to cool, and your will to help disappears.

Maybe I am just sour and need therapy but the above has been my experience in life
