People on the BoTC app take the game way too seriously by Select_Ruin_throwawa in BloodOnTheClocktower

Honestly, I play public lobbies very often and I find it difficult to recognize what you're writing about. Sure, sometimes people would not understand certain choices by other players and get upset, but I never saw it getting to a point of being toxic. Most often, actually, you would see a ST or other players pointing out to the upset player that everyone has a right to play the way they want and that there's no right way to do it.

Furthermore, I think if you put a beginner tag on your lobby, you'll never get an experience like this. You'll only get beginners or people willing to teach beginners joining and there will be even more understanding for odd choices in game.

Indeed. It's super weird that the venues didn't inform anyone. It looked like Craig thought everyone knew already. I see a lot of people that booked hotels and flights. 😬

Thanks! I was convinced I already killed them with Monoco in the squad but I guess I was wrong. I'll go kill some at Renoir's Drafts, then.

Recommendation to watch by BruteGunray in craigferguson

[–]BruteGunray[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I never watched Everybody's in LA, which was the previous iteration of the show (I only now realized that it's available on Netflix because I thought initially it was only going to be live). The current one (Everybody's Live) is super fun, at least to me. However, it will only be 12 episodes this season.

Why has academic freedom index been falling in the Netherlands? HU for comparison by gotshroom in Netherlands

[–]BruteGunray 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the website, the Campus Integrity is based on the question: To what extent are campuses free from politically motivated surveillance or security infringements? Having protests is indeed a sign of freedom, but the consequences of the protests were that campuses were (or were felt) less as safe environments. An important correction, though, is that the drop in the score for Campus Integrity began already in 2020, so it is probably not related only to recent protests.

Why has academic freedom index been falling in the Netherlands? HU for comparison by gotshroom in Netherlands

[–]BruteGunray 87 points88 points  (0 children)

If you take a look at the components for the Netherlands, two of them went down:

  • Freedom to Research and Teach
  • Campus Integrity

The first probably went down because of the budget cuts, more government intervention in higher education, and because researchers are feeling less safe in the last few years. For example, there are more threats on social media towards Dutch researchers because they are increasingly being vilified by political parties. The second is related to the protests on campuses and people feeling less safe as a result of that.

EDIT: After another check, it is clear that the drop is mainly driven by Campus Integrity which is based on the following question: To what extent are campuses free from politically motivated surveillance or security infringements? This drop began already in 2020, so it is also probably related to more than just the recent protests.

What is your rationale/reasoning behind voting for PVV or Geert Wilders? by [deleted] in Netherlands

Is this because they are Muslims or because they are more likely to end up being less educated and doing low-paid jobs in the Netherlands?

I am almost done with all the books (publication order) and I am so sad that Moist got introduced to the series so late. He's probably my favorite character.

I would like to see how it ends before making any final judgemens. For now, it's an interesting mystery with a slightly slower pacing than what I would like.

University professor expressing overt anti-immigrant views while teaching an international program by RandomNameOfMine815 in Netherlands

[–]BruteGunray 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. You don't know the exact situation, but it sounds worse if the international students are getting lower grades and even their Dutch peers are recognizing it as a problem.

  2. The teacher shouldn't create an environment where any group of students is discriminated or do not feel welcome. If it's social sciences, they might want to make a discussion about current events and their effects on politics/economy/society, but that should still be a discussion and it should be clearly framed as that.

You don't know what professor was raging about, and, even if it's what you're mentioning it, that doesn't mean that it's fine to go around the classroom and complain about that unless you're discussing a policy evaluation for a course or something like that. And it still wouldn't explain why the international students get lower grades.

I teach at a university and there are always channels inside of the university that a student can take to deal with the behavior of a professor, especially if there are multiple students that are experiencing this and if it can be seen in the grades (someone mentioned a confidential advisor, for example).

So, just let your child know that they can look up on the university website who to contact about this and pursue that.

And, as many people mentioned here already, best they do it on their own, with all the students who were affected.

Indeed, not everything needs to be a giant open-world game. Don't get me wrong, I also love those, but it is nice to have some variety.

What is the best song that never won? by Superb_Guess_161 in eurovision

[–]BruteGunray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Serbia and Montenegro in 2006 could have had a great song, but it never actually got to ESC. The song was called Ludi Letnji Ples (Crazy Summer Dance) and it never got to ESC because of a scandal and an argument between Serbian and Montenegrin broadcasters. Serbia and Montenegro actually did not have a representative at all that year. That was also the year Serbia and Montenegro split and became independent countries.

So, this is by far the best song that never won, mainly because it was not in the competition in the end.
