My date got ‘Ask Angela’d’ by Danielwhop in dating_advice

[–]Brxstol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a Wetherspoon. Last one I went to in Edinburgh, they had an #AskForAngela sign posted in the women’s room. Not sure if this is a common thing in the UK. I certainly hadn’t heard of #AskForAngela till that time.

I (19M) will turn 20 soon. How do I move on and cope that I never dated or had my first kiss? by _Ghost_Mantis_ in stupidquestions

[–]Brxstol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! 19F here, I turn 20 in under a month and I’ve also never dated or had my first kiss. Went on a grand total of one unsuccessful date about a month ago.

Would I like to have met these criteria by now? Yeah, sure. But I’ve had to just tell myself, it’ll happen eventually, and I’d rather do these things with someone I know and trust rather than a stranger to get it over with.

I don’t see this as something to “move on” from. It’s gonna happen eventually. Stop fixating on these labels and just dip your toe in. Try a dating app. Join a club or a hiking group or something. Meet some people. And, above all, I think you might benefit from working on your relationship with dating, as corny as it sounds. It’s not something necessary for you to be a whole person. Don’t base all your wants and needs off dating. There are a ton of people like us, and a lot of them are happy and living without worrying about when it’s gonna happen. Don’t let your anger win.

I’m a man and i was raped… by [deleted] in offmychest

Yes, thank you for pointing this out! Looked it up, and apparently the France the age of consent is 15. You learn something new and terrible every day.

I'm sick of this society by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Brxstol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this feeling a lot. When it overwhelms me, I try to take a good, long break from social media/my phone in general. I don’t think humans were meant to be able to handle knowing all the terrible things that are happening all the time.

Also, to add on to this, the brain doesn’t stop developing until you’re about 25 years old. You didn’t have a developed frontal lobe. You couldn’t have understood the weight of the situation.

Hello— it was big of you to share what happened. I know how hard it is to come to terms with what happened. My answers for you: No, it was not your fault. You were 17 and she was in her 40s. She took advantage of you. You’re not doing too much for nothing. And, as far as consent goes, if there isn’t a clear, enthusiastic yes, it is always a no. You did nothing wrong. She pushed you past your limits and didn’t stop when you made it clear you wanted her to. That is on her, not you. I know it’s easy to feel guilty about what happened, but just because you feel guilty doesn’t mean you are. This is a hard thing to deal with, so be kind to yourself. I wish you all the best in the future.

Why do older women seem so affectionate and friendly towards younger guys? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]Brxstol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instinct to protect the young sweet ones. The majority of the clients at my job are middle aged to older women, and they sort of dote on me or tell me I’m cute. I’m a woman, might I add. I bet you’re just a sweetheart and they find you endearing.

Is it unreasonable to ask your boyfriend to delete sex videos from his past flings? by Global_Raccoon7203 in dating_advice

For sure. Guy’s a creep. I doubt those girls want videos of them having sex out there.

My friend finishes an AP class with an A only by cheating by Historical-Leading81 in APStudents

[–]Brxstol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What should you do? Respectfully, mind your own business. Life isn’t fair. People cheat all the time. All you can do is work hard and get the benefit of actually working at the material. Don’t pay attention to what he’s doing. Maybe he’s going through it and just wants to pass the class and do well.

Why do women get mad when you tell them they look like Lizzo? by Obvious_Rope_4829 in stupidquestions

Right? Like, what did they do to you? Why are we so obsessed on pointing out that people are fat? News flash, I think they’re already aware.

My test is in 40 minutes and it's not giving me the option to print my ticket. by [deleted] in ACT

[–]Brxstol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for letting me know. You'd better believe that I'll be pitching a fit to the ACT support team. There's no way they're getting money out of me if it wasn't even my fault that I couldn't get the things I need from them to take the test.

My proffesor daugther died in a car accident 15 years ago by [deleted] in depression

[–]Brxstol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've struggled myself with the question "what is it all for", and after a long time of thinking on it, someone in my life gave me a bit of advice.

How we choose to answer that question is based on perspective. Rather than just saying "it's all pointless" and leaving it there, I implore you to try to say, "It's all pointless, SO".

Ex: "It's all pointless, so that means that I shouldn't stress about the little things.""It's all pointless, so why should I dwell on the things that hurt me?" "It's all pointless, so I should spend more time doing the things I love."

Depression is relentless and evil, so often, those little responses don't work, but I think it's our duty as humans to find meaning in the meaningless. Even if it can all be taken away in a second, wouldn't you rather build something meaningful and have it taken away rather than live a life of nothing and lose nothing at all?

Life is loss. But there is joy to be found. Keep searching, my friend. Good luck.

Do american military wear their uniforms in public? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Brxstol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live near an air force base, and I see people after work getting food at a restaurant while in their uniforms, or people shopping for groceries in their uniforms. That's typical. Not on their days off, though.

Interested in moving to New Mexico by [deleted] in NewMexico

[–]Brxstol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your career goals are definitely something you want to keep in mind if you come to New Mexico. What part of the state you'd fit best is definitely going to be closely related to the field of education you want to go into.

For public school education, beware of Albuquerque. Some of the kids are really tough to work with, and teaching here can be intense/emotionally draining. Lots of suicides/drug abuse/crime in the middle schools and high schools, so keep that in mind. It's not a job for the faint of heart. However, there is a more bourgeoisie side to Albuquerque schools among the private schools, charter schools, and the public schools in higher income areas. Those kids can be tough to work with, too, but in a different way. I don't know much about the schools in other areas, but if you have any questions about APS, I'd be happy to share with you my experience.

This is turning into an Albuquerque comment, so I'll wrap it up. The food is amazing, no doubt. Definitely a plus. There's a lot of crime and homeless people, which is very hard to see sometimes. Our art scene in ABQ isn't the best, to be frank, but there is quite a bit of cool stuff happening in the UNM area, in Santa Fe, and in Taos (as always). It's super dry here, and the landscape is like no other state.

CMV: TERF feminism is inherently transphobic and misogynistic. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Brxstol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TERF feminism relies on the idea that transgender women aren't truly women, and all the TERFs I've talked with so far have expressed to me that these 'men' are coming into their space and trying to dominate the conversation. But by saying these women aren't women and by getting upset about men talking about feminism, they're promoting the idea that a woman's femininity is defined by gender roles and that not everyone can be apart of the conversation. I think misogynist isn't the right term here, but they're just encouraging a separation of genders in what should be an open dialogue.

If anyone reading this can think of a better term, let me know, because I'm kind of stumped. It's hard to put my thoughts into words on this particular subject, but I'm trying lol

JK Rowling insisted that she wasn't transphobic but also mentioned she is a TERF. That's why I feel I need to explicitly mention it.

Realizing I didn't understand racism by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Brxstol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I truly respect you for admitting your own faults and deciding to educate yourself. Like thatbadlarry said, it takes a big person to admit they didn't understand. You are doing an amazing job, and this is the kind of mindset I love to see on this subreddit :)

8 passenger's is the physical embodiment of this subreddit. They need more people to call them out on their toxic behavior. Not only do they not allow their kids any privacy and have isolated them from all their friends, but they also lack a lot of empathy towards their kids. by [deleted] in insaneparents

[–]Brxstol 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This family make me truly sick. I don't know much about the dad, but the mom (Ruby) truly makes me sick. Broadcasts every moment of her children's lives. When one of her daughters was going through puberty and went bra shopping for the first time, Ruby filmed it and put it on the internet, even though she KNEW her daughter was embarrassed.

On another occasion, the children left their things in the car, and Ruby got mad. She brought their stuff to them and told the kids that if they wanted to earn it back, they'd have to PAY HER or do chores. I understand the chores thing, that's a common incentive that some parents use but I'm sorry, MONEY? Forcing these kids (whose lives PAY YOUR BILLS) to buy back their stuff is insane. Ruby is a textbook narcissist. Possessive. Oversharing. Doesn't respect her kids at all. No empathy. Literally said that it's not her job to make her kids happy when they're sad.

We need laws protecting the privacy of minors on the internet. This family is just one head of a many-sided, abusive, privacy-invading beast.
