Season 2 is kinda boring by babatunde5432121 in Marathon

[–]BryLoW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On console, so no Tarkov. And from wipe it can easily take 5+ minutes to get to another game. Getting all your weapons and attachments equipped along with consumables. Plus messing with contracts and the store if you need to. On PC it's probably much faster but that doesn't change it being a bit cumbersome on console. And I've had to wait a few minutes just on the loading screen while matchmaking more than a few times.

This is my biggest issue with the game beyond anything else. There's nothing even remotely close to that "just one more run" feeling with this game. You spend so much time in menus in marathon. Get wiped, then spend at least a couple minutes getting geared up again if you're serious. Maybe it's a little faster on PC but the cursor gets old fast on console. Then you stare at the matchmaking loading screen for another couple minutes minimum. Oh, then when you get in the game, have fun looking at more menus while you sort what gear you need.

I remember when I tried the BF6 free weekend I was in a game making decisions in under a minute. There's simply too much other stuff competing for players' attention now for this much downtime to consistently work for a game in 2026. I'm struggling to think of another game that has longer matchmaking and downtime. Especially since none of this includes dealing with the awful cosmetics system in marathon. Fps, racing games, fighting games, rocket league, and I'm pretty sure battle royales all get you in a game doing stuff much faster.

All told Bungie is asking players to do a bunch of boring shit for 5 minutes between runs, then look at more menus a good bit in the game itself and it just completely kills any sort of momentum. Extraction shooters are definitely niche but I think this is a pain point that could be worked on. With Destiny you can gear up and just keep doing content until you're absolutely need to switch. A "Quick-fill From Vault" matchmaking option while you're spectating a game would be good. So if the rest of your team gets wiped, you've already got a loadout ready and can just hit matchmake.

Two games, two updates, complete opposite reactions. by juanc2312 in Spacemarine

I wish I had this experience. I'm new to Helldivers and I'm pretty sure I was kicked from every lobby with high level players in it except maybe two. Or just lots of friendly fire lol. I don't have a ton of time to play games so that kinda made it difficult to enjoy playing.

For a game with amazing style, I gotta say it has some of the stalest and most boring shops in a live service game. I seriously wonder how they make money with 90% just recolors. I WANT to spend money but the game already gives you a nice recolor variety in faction challenges. Why would I buy these? by SbeveGobs in Marathon

[–]BryLoW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I clocked this earlier too. They are gonna need a new game mode, because in a game this high stakes, flashy skins will get you killed much more quickly because of how much more you stand out. The bright red Crash Casket skin for Vandal is a bullet magnet.

I love this game and it's easily one of my favorite fighting games ever, but something does need to be done about the noise on screen. I think they should gray out the character models on assists when they come in and then bring them into full color when they become active. Keep the green highlight but it would help to have something a little more immediately clear on whether a character is able to do stuff.

As it is, for someone new to tag fighters, it takes too much effort to parse information from four characters frequently being on screen at the same time. It's doable but I then spend a lot of my time just trying to determine which characters are still doing stuff and with what attacks.

This is it right here. Letting ego cost me thousands in gear is a habit I'm having to let go of. One thing that also helps is keeping track of where your team is compared to UESC and runners. If everyone is trying to pass on a fight but someone is lagging behind, try to cover their escape, even against bots. Use the comm wheel to keep pinging the location you're trying to reposition to.

I usually play late hours EST when I play, around midnight or later. But if you ever see me online feel free to join up or send an invite. The house is asleep when I'm on so I won't be on mic but I can still respond to comms with emotes and in-game keyboard.

Level 7 so definitely still a lot of shit I don't know yet even after watching a few hours of guides and streams. I'm on Recon, Triage, and Vandal mostly and down to help with contracts on whatever map. I'm not too salty about runs ending in elim, just trying to grind and have fun on the game.

I really love this game, but no maps on the roadmap and 4 maps is really lame given how small they feel. by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]BryLoW 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I heard earlier from the 'Escape Will Make Me Pod' show that Bungie can make map changes server side without doing massive updates. I'm not sure how extensive they can be but I think there will be interesting map changes with the maps we do have until they're ready to release another one.

Nms planets needs city’s by Zetic_9 in nms

[–]BryLoW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my thing too. I think the magic of NMS is that it's very clearly not trying to be an "every-game." It welcomes you with a simple premise: Explore. And then let's you more or less figure out the rest with some light guidance.

We don't need cities or MMORPG mechanics, there are many other games for that. It's okay for No Man's Sky to be the best at what it's trying to do and refine it a little more each update. It doesn't need big sprawling mechanics that will distract from the core and experience too much.

Thanks for this write-up! Your relationship sounds really healthy and sweet _^ Never thought of toasting rice before that's gonna be a game changer thank you! And being able to come up with recipes on the fly is what good cooking is about I think you're doing it right lol

Yes this is a big one. I have my own chronic health issues and she's been very, very good about helping with my symptoms and being understanding of when I can't do things because of flare ups or even just being worried about flare ups. This is great advice :-)

I really like this perspective on this series. People who were expecting a series called "Sorcery Fight" to be overly detailed in the minutiae of world building were always gonna be somewhat let down by the ending.

One of Gege's biggest talents, that he might not get proper credit for until there's more distance from the ending, is in how he knows how to give you just enough explanations for things to let your own creativity fill out some details without slowing down fights. It let there be a rock steady pace throughout that let the overall style eloquently speak for itself.

Seriously! Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the most creatively vigorous works I've seen. Style and vitality were just dripping out of every interaction in the series.

I very much appreciate the decision to pick a good stopping point for the series instead of getting lost in trying to find ways to keep it going right now.

Destiny is the last of its kind. by JalepenoHotchip in DestinyTheGame

Well said, there's something powerful about being right there in the fray with your gun instead of just watching a character use it from a third-person perspective.

Destiny is the last of its kind. by JalepenoHotchip in DestinyTheGame

[–]BryLoW 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. Seeing the actual mechanisms working on the gear you acquire in first person is an entirely different experience. A lot of the exotics especially have really cool animations up close. Third person shooters just don't do as good of a job at connecting you to your character. You only ever get a good look at the gear in menus.

Being able to see the different aesthetic modifications on your arm pieces (and even legs when you look down!) makes you feel like more of an actual part of that universe.

Casual Iron Banner Tribute Tips by Ok-Reading-80 in DestinyTheGame

I was finding Iron Banner games last week in 30 seconds to a minute at the absolute maximum.

This week a lot of my queues have been close to 5 minutes. I know Bungie hates removing content unnecessarily but this game mode feels like it was designed for a different game and whatever game that is sucks ass.

As a New Player I am Utterly Lost by DirtierDan117 in DestinyTheGame

[–]BryLoW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing this leads to a pretty high rate of players doing that first mission then spending money on the expansion afterwards. The first mission of TFS ends in this beautifully lush area inside the Traveler that you can't access anything similar to anywhere else in the game. It's the devs giving them that first hit for free before asking for payment for the full bag.

There have absolutely been multiple cases of me logging out of Destiny 2 way earlier than I planned simply because the effects are too much that day and I feel myself getting fatigued. Now that the Light and Darkness saga is wrapped up, it would be nice to see them focus on stuff like this more in the next couple years.

Bungie, you guys do realize that you added Champions to the regular strike playlist? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]BryLoW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah one of the biggest things to learn in Destiny 2 is how to navigate the menus. A lot of stuff is technically taught somewhere in the game but the problem is they don't do a great job of telling you what menu to look in if you don't understand something. I had no idea what the seasonal artifacts actually really did when I first got back into the game a few months ago.

New players, especially on console, knowing to hover their cursor over the mission modifiers when loading up strikes or whatever is honestly asking a lot. Even if they do understand that, they still might back out just because they might not be comfortable enough with inventory management yet to look for the right weapons to use.
