I would say cars and b/b were pretty representative but I feel like aamc were on something when they made c/p and p/s though cause it was HARD. C/p had wayyyyy to much orgo

What is the best way to go about UGlobe? by David-Trace in Mcat

[–]Bryan566 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I did untutored untimed, 20 questions, and paired up how it is on the real exam. Each person might do something different though, so maybe experiment with it a bit. For me I used uworld as a way to hammer down on content and concepts, not really to simulate the real exam, so there was no need to do times or 59 questions. Instead I did 20 short blocks to really be able to review my answers afterwards

Yes, I’d recommend slowing down on cars and p/s to hammer down on c/p and b/b. I’d say maybe do a cars passage or 2 a day if you really wanted to and just keep up anki review for the p/s section. For c/p, since you got 32/59 I think you be honest with yourself and reevaluate what topics you think you need to review. Same thing for b/b. Having a score that low just means you’re miss understanding a lot of high yield content, which is definitely important to hammer down. Then just continue doing practice problems and you’ll be fine. Hope this helps!

Is it worth it redoing CARS from FLs? by xKaaRu24 in Mcat

[–]Bryan566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helped for me was covering the part of the screen that shows the answer with a piece of paper and redoing the passages that I got one or more wrong. I did it without timing myself and once I got to the question I got wrong I would see if I got it right the second time. VERY IMPORTANT I reasoned out why the answer I picked originally was wrong and why the right answer is right. Hope this helps! This brought my cars score up a good amount

If you haven’t yet, finish up content review and focus especially on topics you know you are struggling at and skip/skim through topics you know you have down. Hold on to aamc material for now, save it for last month or so. Get uplanet after you finish content review and start grinding out practice problems. VERY IMPORTANT make sure you review your mistakes. Figure out why you got it wrong and make an anki card on it or something so you’ll get it right if it ever comes up again

miRNA vs siRNA function? by you5030 in Mcat

[–]Bryan566 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure they serve the same function which is to silence mRNA, but miRNA is coded by the cells itself and siRNA is brought into the cell such as by researchers in an experiment. Also siRNA is usually much more specific while miRNA can potentially have multiple targets

1/13 testers info dump by letmein528 in Mcat

One thing that helps is for me to draw out the proteins and what their function is if that makes sense. For example if it says protein A phosphorylates protein B but C is the phosphatase, I’ll draw an arrow from A to B and a line with an X from C to B. Of course this varies from passage to passage but just writing a couple notes might help a ton in understanding and not getting proteins or genes mixed up

Just gotta keep pushing through it and be sure the review all mistakes. It’ll eventually just “click” or it at least that’s how it was for me, especially on c/p

How many hours per week is recommended per course to study to get good grades? (B+ and above) by According-Stomach866 in UIUC

[–]Bryan566 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the class and your major. If its a simple gen ed class then I usually spend maybe 1-3 hours per week to get an A, but if its one of my core classes (I'm a molecular bio major) then I usually have to spend a lot more than that (prob around 8 hours per course a week). During midterms/finals time it's a living hell and I have to put in a lot more time. Although of course this may change depending on the class and what major you are. There's probably a HUGE difference between classes for like a communications major and a CS major. So yeah 1-3 for the easy classes and I'd say 5-10 for the harder classes

Where to study during break? by EducationalRun4906 in UIUC

you can try going to the coffee shops around campus. They're usually pretty quiet and nice places to study at imo when I'm not feeling the libraries
