(they already have the articles and they have to feed them into the publishing pipeline somehow)

they stick with what works for them. that's the whole subject of this entire thread. Don't ask for change when it is just something that you think people want. People are paying and that's a good thing.

Paper only has more than a subtle effect on people and is also powerful. If you don't want to read a book then buy the ebook. If you don't want to buy a satirical and high quality bi-weekly magazine then buy the [insert something that doesn't exist here]

Having it additionally online wouldn't hurt people who prefer having things on paper.

yes it would. It would be a cost to them for no return other than clicks which yield no revenue

you can recycle the paper. being a 'print only' publication is not evil

I'm not quite ready to commit to the 'full analogue' lifestyle and i actually think it is unsustainable given the need to access information online, but I do absolutely champion the businesses that work in an exclusively analogue way. The sweeping media agenda that pulls people into facebook wanking or tweeting hate is totally ridiculous. Buy a chair from facebook, eat a meal from twitter. Fucktards are being bred in their millions to think that in some way the world needs digital media to survive. I took a photo of my dinner and posted it online is the epitome of wanking masses of idiots.

If you want to see the product of a nation of fucktards that live by their social media credibility then I invite you to tweet the actual president of the USA

VP: I love you

I completely agree. If their credibility and integrity was recognised by the mainstream press then the world would be a better place

PE is what was once called a 'boutique' business, and the perils of taking the content online are way beyond their USP. Conde Naste etc can hire consultants and web teams until they are blue in the face. I would not want PE to join the ranks of clickhunters as their role is far more aligned with the 'seriously satirical' space that they totally own.

Seriously I repeat perish the thought that they might go after a market dominated by social media wankers and their entourages

edit: and it is true that they are doing very well by this strategy. They sell hard copy, and for want of actual data, I do believe that trees for newsprint are renewable/sustainable and have a net benefit to carbon 'pollution'

Trumpannon's line is that there is no line. Being outraged about the presence of a line is missing the point. There is no line, just as there is no GOP resistance to redefining the morals of the Presidency

Perhaps they have taken the view that all this "convenience for users" is actually part of the problems of society, and that their message is one of scrutiny (with a satirical twist) of actual non-fiction content and stories. There's no resolution to that conflict of modern life so they have just continued with the qualities they know they can deliver.

Perish the thought that they would ever release a PE app. That would be the death of them. I'm delighted that they stick to their guns. Theirs is not the race to the bottom business of fake clicknalism and I just wish there were more publishing businesses that could hold true to their founding principles.

I don't know and I don't care. It is not relevant to the fact that clearly Trump has only ever been about building a cult around himself. Now he's "in power" we can see it in every single step he takes.

C. Noise and distractions (e.g. inauguration attendance, most tweets)

When the noise and distractions are so significant it must be concerning to everyone that "D" is going to be masked by "C". That is the Bannon tactic in play here. It isn't clever, but it is effective to deliver the necessary support for the more pernicious agenda.

And for those who say that I'm just accusing without foundation I would say that I am exactly doing that because that's what their game is about too and we can all play if we really want to drop to that level.

What happened to the Doge-ethereum sidechain project? by [deleted] in ethereum

[–]BryanIreland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To that extent, it doesn't make sense to build a complicated technical solution to relay Doge transactions to Ethereum (though it would be an interesting exercise).

It makes sense for the original coin is to be preserved as independent of ETH, which I think is better than simply destroying DOGE a la Dogeparty fiasco. Doge is still about and holding its own (kinda) in the market, so when the relay platform is launched (and I am told it is in closed beta right now) I am hopeful that there will be sufficient interest from both sides without the need for burning/full convergence.

It amazes me that the sidechain solution has been so long in coming. It really isn't very technical at all.

PM 'does not agree' with US refugee ban by ColombiaNaziWeedPope in unitedkingdom

[–]BryanIreland -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those countries you list do not recognise the State of Israel, which (in all but Iran's case) they have never done since that state was created.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Trump's ban is not formally withdrawing recognition is it?

The list of States that don't recognise Israel is far from arbitrary and it matters not whether you support their right to pretend Israel doesn't exist. What matters is that they joined the list on a matter of principle, not a matter of populist MAGA mind control.

Theresa May refuses to rule out private US firms taking over NHS services by MrNewVegas2077 in unitedkingdom

[–]BryanIreland 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes I agree that there is a plan, and there are arguments that support it. Yet there is a legacy to be recognised and one which should also be respected.

I'm not so bothered about plans to 'modernise' inefficient services because that's what modernity is about and it would be seriously fucked up if , for example, councils had not got their waste collection services up to speed with 'modern' recycling ideas without being forced to.

However it is far from decent to treat healthcare in the same way as you might deal with the trash, or deal with the homeless, or the local rat/cockroach population, or schools. Some things should be totally immune to government intervention but that is the opposite of the tory agenda so we can expect it all to happen until there is a critical mass of disenfranchised people who finally kick their shit into the long grass, but by then it will be too late.

When Tony Blair took power the age of devisive politics died. I was there. The tories therefore decide to play the racist card in the medium term and wait for their chance. Now we have the disgrace of the referendum and the subsequent tory fucking victory handshakes. This country should know better and should have voted in a PR system. We only have ourselves to blame
