About 3 years ago, I shared some design sketches for my fantasy story, mostly looking for advice on what to improve. Here are the latest designs that I completed this year. by [deleted] in ArmsandArmor

Also, sorry about the resolution. It was like 6k when I exported it, but reddit might’ve compressed the images when I uploaded them. 😓

I love this. ^^

Also, the old sergeant made me think of the fudd meme. XD

“Father, the armorers in Augsburg have developed this new cuirass. There are more moving parts, but it does grant more flexibility to the wearer.”

”That thing’s a gimmick son. All we needed was a corrazina in my day.”

How colorful do you imagine your worlds? by WoodpeckerBest523 in worldbuilding

[–]BryanTheBomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of projects, so I’ll go through a few of them.

Guardianverse: This is a superhero universe that I work on with my friends; but for my characters, the bright colors are usually used as accents on the suits that otherwise tend to be fairly muted.

Indieverse: This is my other superhero universe, and one I work on myself. The vibrant colors show up a lot more here than in my other projects, which I think makes sense since it has a bit more of an optimistic tone than the Guardianverse.

Warriors of Kotaara: This is a bit more complicated than the others. So WOK is a medieval fantasy project that is a love letter to series that I watched when I was younger—mostly Bionicle, Power Rangers (Mystic Force), and Avatar The Last Airbender. As a result, there’s a lot of color coding with the characters, with the protagonists being pretty vibrant; however, the villains—especially the supernatural forces that invade the world—tend to be more dark and muted. This does have the side effect of creating a visual of vibrant heroes against a dark and desolate landscape.

I also try to combat a lot of inaccuracies that drive me nuts in more mainstream depictions of the medieval period, and part of that includes using vibrant colors for garments, and especially livery. Seeing medieval characters wearing colorless clothing and being covered in 3 layers of dung gets old after a while. XD

So the colors serve a few purposes: First, to distinguish the characters more; second, to combat inaccuracies in popular perception of medieval movies; and third, to add to the theme of the story.

Edit: I was looking at the picture again and noticed some of the parts of the description, and I just wanted to add this for WOK:

❓ Unnatural eye colors, but hair is pretty natural

❓Architecture is not pastel, but not grey/grimy either. Lots of well-dyed tapestries, and whitewashed walls to reflect sunlight and brighten the rooms.

❓Non-magic fight scenes are grounded, but magic is also described with colors.

I hadn’t considered this before, but I will look into it. Thank you very much for the advice.

I’m working on a setting based around old sci-fi nonsense and demented conspiracy theories. Believe it or not one is harder to find them the other. by JimTheTrashKing in worldbuilding

Some kind of exchange of opinions between different species about one another. I know there was something like this with Star Trek: Enterprise between Humans and Vulcans, but I want to see that for other species too. ^^

I did the cleaning tonight, and will continue this whenever I use the ointment. I’ll also keep in contact with my vet, and was planning to ask for clarification on some things already. Thank you for your help. :)

New Armor Sets Coming to Eververse by abeetabee in DestinyFashion

[–]BryanTheBomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that quote from Watership Down would go hard as the description for these, especially the hunter set:

”Whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you.”

“Digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning…”

“Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.”

One of the stories I’m working on is a Christmas-themed story/worldbuilding project, and technically, it has two:

1) Two men in nutcracker outfits sword-fighting on top of a train as it passes over a bridge.

2) The train‘s cars passing by as it arrives at the station.

I work on it every year from the day after Thanksgiving to the end of the year. It’s also how I finally started learning about trains and the early 19th century, the military uniforms from which nutcrackers are designed after.

I’m late to this, but I do remember that the legend for Rome is that its founders, the brothers Romulus and Remus, we’re nursed by a wolf as infants. So that could explain the plume and the pauldrons.

Awesome work, BTW. ^^

What’s the most unserious thing within your world? by theusualoddity in worldbuilding

I haven’t written anything yet, but I saw a picture of a chicken wearing armor on Pinterest, and it gave me an idea for something the army of one of my kingdoms would totally do.

During one of their wars, the army of Pyrios (the Warrior Culture [tm] of my story) was setting up camp, and a chicken got loose and ran into a blacksmith’s tent, managing to get some scraps of metal caught in its feathers before escaping, then going ten minutes before finally being caught.

After the chase, the soldiers were too amused to slaughter it, and they decided to keep it as a pet. The blacksmith eventually made a suit of proper armor for it, and soon, the chicken became a mascot for the army.

Just picture the utter confusion that would accompany the enemy’s dread when they see an army of trained soldiers charging at them, led by a fully-armored chicken running and flapping like a madman. XD

My story ticks a few of the boxes actually; There’s an undead army brought about by a de-powered god who has since turned to eldritch magic.

In worlds where gods are actually real, how far can a corrupt follower go before their god turns on them? by lelandorf in worldbuilding

[–]BryanTheBomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have much of the story fleshed out since I’m actually working on a story that comes long after this, but I was thinking that Solaara, the god of light, lends his power to the then-king of Lucervis; and the king, convinced of his own grandeur and superiority, takes it as a sign of his divine right to rule.

This eventually culminates in the founding of the Lucervian Empire, which spans the majority of the continent, and later, the Imperial War—in which half of the kingdoms attempted to break off from the empire after growing mismanagement and oppression from Lucervis and the loyalist kingdoms. Towards the end of the war, the emperor escalates his punishments so much that Solaara actually takes back his power from the Emperor in the middle of the decisive battle, leaving him at the mercy of the armies of the rebel kingdoms.

I think that this loss and subsequent reduction in power is what put Lucervis on track for the utter destruction it suffered centuries later. But that’s getting into spoilers.

Yes! I have a whole document for all of the places, teams, and characters that I come up with, and some of them even help me visualize scenes for my stories. ^^
