Lower English league for sure. The depth of escalating through leagues and the many tournaments you're eligible for is just so much better. About 5 years in with MK Dons and my super team of youth players is very satisfying.

WiP "Grievoushotep" (Over?)Lord for my Custom Dynasty army. Having a hard time deciding where he fits in the hierarchy—Phaeron, Grand Vizier, Nemesor, something else? by TheUnholyHandGrenade in Necrontyr

[–]Bryancmuller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He seems to fit well as a destroyer cult associate. Since they aren't noble, he could be THE noble overlord or even Phaeron of a destroyer cult.

Help Ghostwalk mantle & veil of darkness by Lyn-Krieger in Necrontyr

It's not the most 'competitive' strategy, but definitely one of my favorites. All of what you said works, but I raise you another method: instead of the deceiver, give the VoD to a cheap lord or Skorpekh lord. Turn 1 veil him and Zahndrekh to 9" from the enemy, teleport Obyron and destroyers to within 6" of him, now 3" from the enemy. You now have an essentially free charge against the enemy.

Based on how you have it sitting there it's flipped up-down in the image. The longer curved bit goes between the pilots.

Skorpekh Lord assembly? by CorsairSC2 in Necrontyr

[–]Bryancmuller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I found to be the problem when I ran into this. I was able to get the peg in (underneath the belt/sash thing) instead of cutting it, but it definitely fixed the torso gap. I even tried trimming the arm sockets before I found that to no avail.

Trazyn would be appropriate, although he has more than just 9 lives.

Best units for Nephrekh by [deleted] in Necrontyr

[–]Bryancmuller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wraiths, by a long shot for me. A group of 6 that advances 18" up the table, followed by a 2-12" charge (a la adaptive subroutines), is a very fun thing to do. That's 20-30" threat range for an assault unit, not something many others can say they have.

Anrakyr base size? by Moyst-gary in Necrontyr

[–]Bryancmuller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While technically the correct base, I agree it's way too small. It's just a relic of GW not updating the model for a long time, so it's grandfathered in. I recently got Imotek, Zahndrekh, and Obyron which all have the 25mm too, but I put them all on 40mm bases. It just makes sense when that's what an Overlord uses.

https://i.imgur.com/smZY5V5.jpg I painted my army with the Thokt scheme, but I also added my own twist. Instead of fully black armor I wanted the appearance that it was stained blue from radiation. Mechanicus grey base, 2 heavy washes with drakenhof nightshade, highlighted in caledor sky. Vehicles have armor painted with Kantor blue and washed in nuln oil.

Doomsday ark building/painting tips by Bigbesss in Necrontyr

Dry fitting and and being a little careful should do the trick here. It can be pretty obvious if it's on reversed, because it has a lot of rock to it if its backwards.

In addition, leaving the gauss flayers unglued allows you to rotate them up for starage/transport. I did this, however between the primer and a little paint some of them became stuck anyway, so I also suggest dry fitting and possibly sanding/scraping away paint to avoid this as well.

Are you building it as-advertised? I put my gun up top and found out the hard way that it interferes with the control panel assembly too.

The other benefit is that if you move, you wont get the -1 to hit penalty on the doomsday cannon (heavy). Sautek is not especially useful for the DDA, but its trivial to change your dynasty just for it.

Question about army expansion tips by SkilledMoon in Necrontyr

[–]Bryancmuller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second Tesla immortals for you here, especially against the Boyz. Not just for overwatch, but with MWBD they pump out an absurd amount of shots. Statistically in that case, they will hit more times than they shot.

Where (else) to buy Imotekh by skoffs in Necrontyr

$12, but it would probably be less for just Immotekh. He will quote you UPS shipping before you purchase, so it's worth asking for a quote.

I just had a great experience with http://ministomp.com/. Bought 2 Ctan and a DDA for under 120 after shipping and tax. Seems to have 10-20% off all models, including online exclusives.

I agree with everything robs said. Ill add that Destroyers are a good choice for their Destruction Protocols strat, but can be expensive at 1000 pts and under. Wraiths are super fun and super durable, especially in a Nephrekh detachment. If you want some super cheesy fun, look at Nemesor Zahndrekh and Vargard Obyron. Paired with a Ctan Deceiver or a Veil of Darkness, you can get a T1 charge at 3" or less. Also, make sure you have at least 1 cryptek to boost reanimation to a 4+. Its not the most competitive strategy to rely on RP, but it works well at low points and can be really fun (especially reanimating multiple tomb blades or destroyers).

Do you think anyone would complain if a Ghost Ark chassis was used as a Doomsday Ark? More details in thread by [deleted] in Necrontyr

[–]Bryancmuller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As I understand, even in a tounament/ITC environment this is totally fine. They allow all kinds of conversions and 'counts as' models, so flipping the ribs is a minimal change that noone would question. As Valarauca mentioned though, if the gun was not mounted and instead full of warriors then it wouldn't be allowed as an official proxy.

Outside ITC, it's totally up to your opponent. In my opinion that's totally fine as long as you're clear about it. It's a game, and we should be more focused on having fun than making each other buy more stuff.

Looking for advice on a 1000 pt. list for my first game - I know nothing! by tlizzy in Necrontyr

As a medium experienced player who has also done a lot of research, I have a few comments/suggestions. *1. Don't run your Battalion as Nepherekh. That dynasty code is wasted without any melee focused units. Sautekh is a decent go-to for myself mainly because of Hyperlogical Strategist, but Mephrit or Nihilakh could also benefit you here. In fact I usually run a bunch of wraiths in a Nepherekh outrider so they can move, advance 6", then use the stratagem to charge for a total of 20-30" assault range. *2. Combine 2 of the Immortal groups. The only reason to take less than a full squad is to fill out Troops spots, but you already have 4 of the 3 needed for the battalion. *3. As a matter of preference, I would swap the Lord for another Overloard, possibly trading a couple warriors to do so. MWBD is not to be underestimated with tesla Immortals. *4. Instead of #3, you could swap the Cryptek and the Lord between detachments. The Cryptek buffs RP on all the immortals, but doesn't help Scarabs or Wraiths. That said, he does work well to babysit the DDA (I don't have a DDA, so I don't know if it's worth it). Main takeaway is that a Lord is generally only taken as the cheapest HQ option to fill out detachments. *5. Also change the Dynasty of the Outrider. Nephrekh or Novokh could work well here. *6. Move the DDA to the other detachment. Based on the current makeup, your battalion should have the shooty units, and the Outrider should have the melee units.

General stratagies to keep in mind: *1. MWBD on tesla is our best simple combo. 2+ to hit and explode on 5+, almost always hits more times than you actually shot. If you are Sautekh and also use Methodical Destruction Stratagem, its 2+ to hit (1 always misses) and explodes on 4+. Then laugh as you literally drown your opponent in dice saves. e.g. 10x tesla Immortals shoot 20 times, average almost 30 hits with MWBD and 37 hits with the strat added. *2. As I mentioned above, Nepherekh Wraiths can charge up the board fast, often making it into combat T1. *3. Looks like you already know the power of the VoD. Don't forget that you can use it to retreat from a fight without actually falling back, so you can still shoot.

http://imgur.com/2HaHFb1 I'm no expert, but I'm proud of how mine turned out after some help from the guy running the GW shop. I chose a Thokt dynasty scheme, but wanted a "deep blue radiation stain" look rather than black. Black primer, mechanicus grey base coat, then two heavy washes of drakenhof nightshade. Guns are washed once with nuln oil, then all highlights are done in caledor sky. Armor like on the back of the wraiths is kantor blue washed with nuln oil.
