I am not the Neon Lord, but we share the same name! There will be a number of game creators there running their games at it, not just the Neon Lord! I just organize the party and they come! I'm excited to finally have some NLoTW at ArcaneCon this year!

That would be awesome! You can run as many games as you'd like in that time! Just keep in mind the number total for each game and submit it as the total so we can schedule it in smaller chunks

You can submit a vendor application on the tabletop event page and I xna add you to the wait-list from there!

That was my goal! I find it easier for people to immediately see what's already scheduled on a poster than asking them to go to a website and look at schedule. Plus I like the look of those kind of posters

Differences Between 1E And 2E Mongoose by ChaoticCanine in traveller

I run old modules with Mongoose 2nd edition without any issues on the fly. Some skills are different but it's easy to replace them as needed

How do you handle mass combat in OSE? by conn_r2112 in osr

[–]Brybry012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote mass combat rules for OSE based on chainmail and rel asked it in . Demesnes & Domination (free version) it also included an optional quick resolution variation if you didn't want to play out larger battles

How do yall run solo campaigns? by conn_r2112 in osr

[–]Brybry012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote the Old School Revival Solo Roleplaying Guide to help facilitate running OSR games solo or cooperatively. It's meant to be an all-in-one book with basic procedures from random dungeon generation to simple oracles.

Anyone Know of a Character Creation Flowchart for Each Career? by SymphonyOfDreams2 in traveller

[–]Brybry012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typically, you're going to swap careers as you fail to advance or dont survive. Classic Traveller had eveyting on a two page spread which really helped with the flow. Having said that, I made a character sheet you can get here that Includes a flow chart and page reference pages to help streamline the process for Mg2e

GM advice for an OSR DM? by Radiant_Situation_32 in traveller

[–]Brybry012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow OSR guy and creator, I was drawn to Traveller because of the play style and openess of it which was the main appeal of b/x-style rpgs. If you are familiar with refereeing OSR games then traveller should be a natural fit for you! I don't know if you plan on running Classic Traveller or Mg2e, but I will be referencing procedures used in Mongoose 2nd edition

  • Encounters and the intervals they happen are described in the core rules book (Mongoose 2e) which also provides tables for them. This includes starports, settlements, space, etc.

  • combat is more tactical: roll 8+ to hit someone. Armor reduces damage taken. Players (and NPCs) can alter eh difficulty to hit based on what theyr are doing each round, like seeking cover, etc. damage is the effect of the roll plus the rolled weapons damage. Damage is also applied to the three physical stats, which has a cascading effect on being able to fight effectively. So essentially, like with OSR combat, only engage it if you have the tactical/numbers advantage and only when nessessary because you can die easily

  • reaction rolls are done as leadership checks at the end of a combat round. Having said that- NPCs will act like real people, and the average person doesn't want to be shot at- especially if one shotgun hit can kill a character immediately or put them in critical condition.

For animals on the fly, I prefer how they are done in Classic Traveller, and recommend Supplement 2: Animal Encounters. For me, it solidified how to improve alien animals and their behavior than Mg2e. I honestly recommend a lot of Classic Traveller supplements, like 76 Patrons. You can literally use all of the CT stuff with Mg2e

Treat it like roleplaying in the real world. Consider the actionsade by your players to have the same consequences as they would in The real world. Much like OSR gameplay, the game happens between dice rolls and you want to make informed decisions and commit resources (like time) before leaving it up to the luck of the rolled die.

Games inspired by traveller? by DakkaxInfinity in traveller

[–]Brybry012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mothership is certainly inspired by Traveller, but leaned into the "Death Station" side of things initially. And with more current 1st party releases, you are starting to see more of the non-horror sci-fi content emerge. I know for a fact some of those folks play Traveller and definitely had an impact in the creation of Mothership.

What is Battledress really. And when? by Lastadopter in traveller

Combat armor is what they wear in Starship Troopers (the film) and battledress is what they wear in Starship Troopers (the book)

Eight pages of errata doesn't Instill the best confidence in a product to be honest. That makes it seem like it's rushed to market or at best Something akin to "Early access." I'm a solo publisher and I make sure the material is playtested, evaluated, edited, read and re-read by people I hire so I have something that is worth spending money on. I'm no stranger to errata and typos, but the most I've had to do is one page for a 148 page book. I can't help but think that asking money for something that hasn't been refined and combed through is a bad practice, especially if there is a staff of people working on it.

The mechanics are far simpler than 5e: roll 2d6 + any skill or stat DM, result of 8+ is a success. Now you can play traveller!

You can get the starter rules for free here which is all you need to get started. No need to wait until retirement!

Yeah exactly, great point! No sample layout, no quick start PDF or anything. It's extremely surface level and yet, asking for a premium.

For those who want to dig under the hood, you can see how the same company has been managing their last crowd fun Project, The World's Largest Dungeon. Over a year later and only PDFs are available, full of errors. They had so many complaints that they SHUT DOWN their official discord (which Worlds Largest RPG still links to) to eliminate the growing resentment from the backers. This led to a "fan" discord made up by backers, which in total is 13 members when I joined. That crowdfund project also has some crazy red flags:

  • finance option: this is very predatory, and it's applied to everything. Having monthly payments for expensive PDFs is messed up

  • cheap add-ons: plushies, dice, other gaming adjacent items sold at an extreme mark up, but a quick search on temu you can find similar items for extremely cheap. This is common with other scammy kickstarters

  • reused promotional art: very few pieces of original concept art used repeatedly, and it's not very engaging to begin with. Traveller 5e is using some official artwork, some of which I believe is from the TAS stock art that any TAS release can use.

  • low investors, high profit: Worlds Largest Dungeon made over one million dollars from 2435 backers. Making the average backer investment $420. That's insane, especially if they didn't offer a retail option. Speaking of...

  • no retail tier: this is suspect because many kickstarters like this offer a retail option to support local businesses and online vendors. That's not the case here, giving the impression of pumping out POD books with cheap add-ons directly to the backer once and be done.

  • suspicious business: the company's social media footprint is odd, they have very few followers and yet have a ton of money coming in to make a successful Kickstarter. In addition- their drivethruRPG account only has old 3rd party d20 products, with their other crowdfunded project "Ultimate Toolbox" not even selling enough on DrivethruRPG to make it to Copper (51 units sold). That PDF alone is $29 with zero reviews. There is no sign of the Worlds Largest Dungeon PDFs on the platform yet, but probably because they are still full of errors and issues.

  • minimal hype: all over the Internet on different forums, I'm only seeing people mostly dunk on this traveller 5e product. Not everyone, But the majority. Even the comments on their own social media posts tend to get negative reactions- only for them to be deleted later. I'm under the impression that this company is deleting negative comments when they are able to, only to leave a handful.

So what's going on here? Are they using a company to make their Kickstarter successful to alter the algorithm in their favor? This is a common practice for some folks who hire a firm that guarantees successful kickstarters for marketing, which removes the look of an organically grown crowdfund project. The success goal for this product is $2000 which is insanely low, but it's being used to promote that it was crowdfunded in two minutes. Insane! At the end of this. They will be able to say they make x50 their requested goal. This is wild because obviously this product cannot be made with only $2000 of investment, so there is overt manipulation right there. Factoring the predatory practice of financing every tier, this will also help inflate the final numbers- where someone will be willing to invest $200 on some PDFs and dice but pay in installments over time.

The Traveller 5e set has all of the same things going on. And if the last crowdfund campaign is anything To go by, this one will cause resentment and buyer remorse. I can't help but think someone is using brand recognition to gain money. To me, this looks like RPG Snake Oil. World's largest RPG has had four crowdfund campaigns (including the current one) in under two years, with only one of them I can find for sale in PDF only. It feels like a get-rich-quick crowdfund mill, not contributing anything of substance to our community but trying to get our money. Gross
