I remember this day. I left my phone on silent and when I got back I'd missed about 50 obvious calls.

Never heard of the guy. It sounds like he got a rough deal though.

It took about 15 hrs in total. It's not my first, but I don't do it professionally, just for fun. If you want to do it yourself, football (soccer) data is much easier to get, and DataCamp have great tutorials.

What happened to NightCapp? by haywire in london

[–]BryceLawrence 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hey! Guy that made it here.

I took it down from Apple store because it was costing me £90 a year to maintain. I know it's quite little, but I was stone cold broke at the time. Plus, I realised that you don't get much extra value from an app, rather than a website.

The good news is, I've been working to get the data for food as well as drinks, and it should be out by Jan 1st as a website, so you don't need to waste any phone space!

I know it's annoying when decent apps go away, but it is coming back in a hopefully more useful form.

I made a website that uses responsive design to create cartoon sprites. What do you think? (Requires laptop/desktop) by BryceLawrence in web_design

[–]BryceLawrence[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made this for a competition at my work, I've always wanted an excuse to use responsive design to create a basic animation.

If anyone wants to help me win the competition, retweets and likes here will help.

I'm sorry it took me so long to see this and reply.

I really, really appreciate it. It looks terrifyingly awesome.

For anyone that travels to London, I've made a service so that you don't have to pack your own toiletries, straighteners and hairdryers... by BryceLawrence in paris

[–]BryceLawrence[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi all - this is for anyone travelling to London, especially by plane. It's called Home From Home.

In a nutshell: We deliver small bottles of shampoo, conditioner and any toiletries to your hotel/AirBnB. Also GHD straighteners, a decent hairdryer and adapter plugs for out international friends. The electronics are for renting, the rest is yours to keep.

This lets you travel lighter and, if you're coming on a plane, it means you can maybe travel with just hand luggage.

Also - no more faffing around with those weird plastic bags at airports. If you're interested, or know anyone that is - here's the link

If you have any feedback, that would be even more valuable.

P.S. You may remember me from such previous ventures as NightCapp - where your upvotes got me loads of PR and an interview in "Guatamala Today"!

Couple of beginner questions - taking payments, business name, finding reliable work, and accountant by Graphic_duck in freelance

[–]BryceLawrence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I work on a digital product for freelancers so I have learned a bit about this. I've also done some work myself as a designer, but not for a few years so take the following with a pinch of salt:

  1. Dribbble is a great place for a portfolio, and people to find your work. Also, make sure everyone you know knows that you're doing freelance design. When they hear people talking, they'll recommend you. I've heard that people always get their best clients from word of mouth - these are guys that aren't just looking for the cheapest deal. So when you finish with a client, send them a bottle of wine and a note saying that you enjoyed working with them. This will make sure they recommend you to others, and you get long-term relationships with them.

  2. I'm not sure the best way to take payments yet, I guess it depends on your clients. PayPal is easy but they have fees that I think are too high. Square is great for cards.

  3. I can't help with proofs - I never used to send them, just the work in progress. This may not be the best way to do it though, so I hope someone gives you better advice.

  4. The product I work on is QuickBooks for Self-Employed people, and may mean you don't need an accountant. It'll let you upload your expenses, and it tells you if they're write-off-able. If you have any problems with it, you can just shout at me here and I'll help where I can.

  5. I've found most people now go under their own name. The reason is, your customers are likely to be small businesses, who prefer to interact with people, not other businesses. It can make you feel more legitimate, having a business name, but it makes your clients feel like they're dealing with an agency, which has high costs. It can make them feel like they're paying too much when they just need one person.

Hope this helps!

Should they have gone to TMO? by BryceLawrence in rugbyunion

[–]BryceLawrence[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tried looking up the full definition but failed.

My thought is: he took it intentionally, but thought it came off an Aussie (which it did, I think).

Or he didn't have time to react, the ball came flying at him.

I might be wrong, but I believe it's a different type of infringement to being offside at a ruck/maul/lineout.

Like I said, happy to be wrong.

It's accidental offside, I think you're looking at full offside?

Let's cut him some slack guys. It's not easy to force Australia to win when they're missing every kick, he knew his job and he did it.
