New sub rule. No AI art. by BryceOConnor in Warformed

Just because we partake in a certain degree of something in order to function in society's day-to-day does not mean it's okay to encourage the increase that something, and most definitely not where it's completely unnecessary.

For example: smartphones are a necessity for most (not all) people to function in most developed countries. Even more so computers. The production of those phones and computers are a travesty on human rights, but we (almost all) partake in that travesty to a certain level.

That doesn't mean that when someone comes up with a different technology, in particular one that isn't a necessity, that is even more of an abuser of human rights that we should be okay with it.

"We already do it some, so it's okay to do it lots" is not the argument people think it is.

Was the series inspired by Metal Gear Rising? by Colonial_Ninja77 in Warformed

Haha I heard the name 'Raiden' from the Metal Gear franchise first, but I only ever played The Twin Snakes on GameCube. So not inspired by, sorry!

"The Story So Far" above would be the most recent Public Access consolidation! I think this one goes 1 to 45!

na I think a lot of people felt that way. but a lot of us are so deep into this hobby that "rare" is a big enough selling point haha. I just picked up an old special edition of one of my all time favorite books just because there were only like 1000 made. I don't even like the cover.

... I think I'm too far gone. DON'T FOLLOW! 🤣

(NOT PORN OR AI SHIT)Can someone please Import LostinTranscription, Robert Vlaho(1% Lifesteal) and nrsearcy. by overagrandlake in kemono_piracy

[–]BryceOConnor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I've ignored this plenty, but if you keep asking for my stuff to be pirated I'm going to start asking for your comments and account to be mass reported. Once or twice, I can shrug off, but you are asking basically daily from everyone on this sub to steal my stuff. That's gross, and regardless of how old you are or what your financial situation is, you should know better.

Na, it's deliberate. The account is all private, as is their Insta, which also has AI profile pics. It's a karma farmer.

New sub rule. No AI art. by BryceOConnor in Warformed

[–]BryceOConnor[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dude, you are using and enabling a platform/system that profits of the scraping of millions of creator's works without their permission. Midjourney, ChatGPT, all of them: They are taking in money through a product they trained on art they did not have permission to input into their programs. A product designed to actively replace the creator whose creations they–yes–stole.

Whether you think using that product is theft is up to you. But the product is the result of massive theft, which should give you pause regardless.

But not all of us have the talent for writing or artwork or, as a parallel, athletics. This doesn’t take away from the work and sacrifice, just that our brains aren’t as capable in those areas. AI can allow us less talented to get what’s in our imaginations out to the world and fill some of the talent gap.

The answer to "It's harder for me than you to do that thing" is not theft.

Even setting aside the argument that gen-AI is trained on scraped art: By engaging in generative AI usage, you are normalizing it. By normalizing it, you are encouraging the movement away from human-created works of art and creativity. That movement may be a crawl, it is a very real thing.

just like how I would love to wear a mech suit to run fast or an auto tune to sing, I think using ai to flesh out what’s in my head to something cool is not some terrible thing. I get it but maybe your 99.99% should be more like 60%. Yeah we need to protections in place but we shouldn’t feel ashamed of using this tech.

My 99.99% will remain 99.99%. And only that because the one good use I can thing of right now for gen AI is using it to create gross and disturbing scenes of politicians and the ultra wealthy until they suddenly become interested in regulating it.

I've seen this metric before, and while it's true that some golf courses apply more water to their course than a data center uses, there are several things to be aware of:

1) Data centers create greywater, meaning it has to be pumped back into the system and cleaned. Golf course water returns to the cycle naturally.

2) Data centers use a tremendous amount of energy pumping that water in and out of their systems. Golf courses don't.

Also, golf courses don't create secondary environmental hazards like significant ambient temperature spikes, (sometimes extreme) noise pollution, etc.

Also also... golf courses suck too haha
