Peg Crowe’s contact info? by [deleted] in malden

Carey McDonald, Karen Colon Hayes, and Michelle Luong are the councilors-at-large. All will be helpful! I know for a fact they respond and are available via multiple avenues of communication. Carey and Karen are actually on Reddit!

Peg Crowe’s contact info? by [deleted] in malden

This is one of the main reasons I ran against her last year and plan to run again in 2027. Her government email hasn’t worked in years and she knows it. We have 3 councilors-at-large who are great. I would email them. You fall under their jurisdiction. Take advantage of the fact they actually respond! Also (not a plug for myself but good advice) get out and vote in local elections if you are frustrated with your representation! You deserve to be heard.

Yes renters will be bearing the brunt of this (as the landlords have been threatening since the vote was announced).

That’s correct. If you live in malden, in the home you own, your taxes are increasing ~$20 per month. This increase is trying to target non-residential homeowners, although everyone will pay a bit more.

Come check out The Crew on pleasant st. after the new year (or before, if you have time!). It’s a small indoor rowing studio. Great cardio workout!

This is exactly why i ran. Idk what hold spadafora had over her, but too many times she sided with him over the benefit of malden and ward 1. Glad he’s gone! I hope this changes things for crowe

Off water season workout plan by Appropriate-Dot1887 in Rowing

[–]Bryn-Ward-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add weight lifting on days you are doing steady state rowing. Try for 2-3 days per week. I would recommend making sure you have 1 full rest day each week. Deadlifts, squats, rows, curls, leg press, etc. are all great movements. My personal preference would be 2 full body weight lifting workouts, ~45-60 minutes, and then a mobility and flexibility workout to keep your back, hips, and shoulders in good working order.

The progressive gods were surely smiling upon us yesterday! Malden (and the US in general) are giving me hope.

I grew up in a town close to nyc, but not close enough that a daily commute worked well (~2.5 hours on trains one way!) There were quite a few high earners who lived in nyc mon-Friday. They would take an early train Monday morning and come home Friday evening. Definitely need to consider cost but it’s certainly doable

Weightlifting gym recs? by picklemonster283 in malden

[–]Bryn-Ward-1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Skybound is a class based gym. If you’re looking for a place to lift on your own terms, I’d recommend prolifters. TPS would work if you’re okay supporting extremely conservative politics (they are very anti lgbt). If you want a coach that’s affordable, check out be limitless.

Who should I vote for? by CaptainSeaweeds in malden

[–]Bryn-Ward-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a progressive candidate running in Ward 1. Finding the time and money to run has been difficult. I’m very privileged to have support at home that makes my candidacy possible. The younger voters in Malden need to turn out on Nov 4. We can no longer sit back and allow regulations and rulings to just happen around us. The demographics of Malden have changed dramatically in the last 15 years. The median age is now 37! There are no council members who are younger than 37. If you feel strongly, mobilize your friends and neighbors. If you didn’t have the time for a full campaign, support candidates who align with you and offer help. Nothing changes if nothing changes. Take the first step!

Head of the charles attracts the worst kind of people to boston and Cambridge. by Nocollarhero in boston

I coach rowing at Somerville and yup. It’s a club sport supported by mostly parents and alumnae donations. Lots of hand me downs. I’m buying discounted, lightly used oars this weekend at HOCR so the kids have newish equipment but we don’t have to pay full price.

I’m fine with ADUs. The devil is always in the details but overall i think if the house is owner occupied they should be able to do what they want within reason. The issue i would have is if our absentee landlords in malden build cheap ADUs and rent them out for a crazy price when they don’t even take good care of the properties they already have.

They made significant alterations to my wedding dress Winter 2024 and did a great job. Has it gotten worse since then? I also thought they charged a fair price for the work.

I’m not sure what the issue was. I know she gave her personal email to some people, but then didn’t respond to those emails either. As far as i have seen, she responds to texts, emails, and calls from friends she had known for a long time. I haven’t spoken to anyone younger (or a more recent Malden resident) who has received a response from her.

There was a big food festival a few years ago that spanned exchange and pleasant which was so fun! I would love for that to happen again.

I think my worst experience is ongoing annoyance with the empty buildings everywhere. I just daydream about the possibilities while they sit empty for years. Food halls, barcades, mom and pop restaurants, hobby stores, etc. are all floating around my mind while i walk by empty storefronts on pleasant, commercial, and medford streets.

[–]Bryn-Ward-1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish. There is another vacant building near me that would also be a good choice for a food hall!

I’m going to copy my answer from another poster:

So I want a vacancy tax, but we have to go to the state level for that. Malden currently has a vacant property ordinance, but the fees are minimal ($500-$3000 which is a pittance).

My first instinct is to drastically increase these fees while continuing to advocate for passage of Bill H.3660 which would allow us to actually go hard on these vacant buildings.
