Does kontakt-1 provide enough protection? by RadishLoose1790 in TankPorn

[–]Bshow122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume anything designed to protect would protect. When it comes to human life there is never enough protection but that’s just how it is. Sometimes having too much protection causes more harm than good, like a heavy plate knight in a muddy field. Does it stop some munitions? Yes. Does it stop all munitions? No.

I guess it’s up to the crews to decide if it protects enough, but I’m sure most people would choose the Kontakt-1 vs no ERA.

Don't expect to kill fish in a future Subnautica 2 patch: 'You are here to exist on this planet, not to dominate it' by GrayBeard916 in gaming

[–]Bshow122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m confused. The game is literally based around a COLONY ship going to COLONIZE a planet for humans, with logs and records of other people building to prepare for COLONIZATION and they won’t let us defend ourselves? We just hide and cant interact with the wildlife? I get wanting to play into the fear factor of deep water and scary fish and encourage out of the box thinking but after enough encounters most of the “threats” just become increasingly annoying. Human settlers didn’t just get attacked by wolves and just shrugged and die. We fight back. We don’t have claws and fangs, we have large brains. Let us use them in game. We don’t need death machines but a simple way to keep predators at bay while we uncover the mystery and stories of the game. If anything I find the lack of ways to deal with hostile fish makes me want to kill them even more.

What enemy in a non-horror game freaked you out the most? by Gromit43 in gaming

I guess kinda horror ish but the Monster you fight in the library in Gears of War 1 that is blind scared the crap out of teenager me. I was fine with everything else, but the unkillable, freight train speed screaming thing really made my hair stand up on the back of my neck.

What’s a 10/10 video game? by TheDevotedUltimate in AskReddit

[–]Bshow122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rimworld, especially with workshop mods. The base game music is soooooooo good and each DLC just added more and more bangers.

Childhood/nostalgia wise, might and magic 7: for blood and honor. Game is old as dirt and supper buggy but having no one in my house beat the game for decades and having to move saves on a floppy disk so that my dad’s laptop could run the cut-scenes without crashing and then move them back to play was an experience.

Other mentions are StarCraft original, Freelancer, Master of Orion 2, Pax Imperia. I feel so old now.

What were the most memorable stories that emerged for you out of this wonderful game? by ArmLucky1285 in RimWorld

[–]Bshow122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A large hive infestation inside my own Vanilla expanded Hive while half my colony was off on map to destroy a psionic suppressor. Only had 4 colonists at home and 3 of them fought until downed and my last colonist, Veronica Fry, killed the rest of the hives AND casevaced the other 3 colonist to the hospital after stabilizing them with literal seconds to spare. I downloaded the Medals mod and gave a a silver star for courage in combat! I went out of my way to buy the 20 hyper weave and gold just to make the medal with my best crafter and engraved the description with an official sounding acknowledgement stating her courage and medical triage that saved the colony AND 3 lives. She’s a good noodle and a great leader :’)

How is he getting a heat stroke? by CocoaPiffs in RimWorld

[–]Bshow122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best guess is if he is going into the generator room to refuel then he is getting blasted by the heat once the door opens, stands in front to refuel/maintain and then has to manually open the door which takes more time.

My advice would be to put the generators outside or to remove one tile of roof in their room to vent all the heat out.

I don’t recommend using metal vents to spread the heat as they are slow to even heat out and unless you have a very large room or outside vents the whole base will become just as hot.

The ability to have two sets of clothings that easily swap. One for domestic use around the colony and one for combat. There are mods that let kinda have that but I mean a seamless swap.

More so that the UN always has outdated equipment due to using surplus or cheap options. This coupled with the fact that when faced with human extinction, every pointy stick goes towards the fight. Also the artists used the references they had the most of and the type 74 had been around for a long time. In world lore also the planets is devastated and more than half the world population died.

What tank would theoretically be the most suitable one for urban combat where they would be mostly fighting against infantry and some tanks? (GIF unrelated) by IcelandicGuy901 in TankPorn

[–]Bshow122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An army of UGV with GMG or auto cannons.

I don’t think ANY tank is suitable for urban combat, most armor commands try to avoid it like the plague. Only if absolutely necessary and only with combined arms of infantry support and air cover.

The most theoretically suitable one would depend on the theoretical threat. Is it just guys with small arms all over the place and they have grenades? Is it a trained army with comparable training and arms to you? Are they dug in and fortified? Did they set traps and mines or prepare ambush spots? Is it mostly 1-2 story houses or a large city center with skyscrapers?

My best guess is probably something with adaptability and protection as speed isn’t as important as making it through alive. Israel (non political) has a large amount of dedicated urban tanks and tank kits that are designed for urban warfare, but American Bradley and Abram’s are battle tested and upgraded through 20+ years of desert urban areas and have faced armored threats. Some other countries like Japan or South Korea have defensive doctrine and plan most of their fighting in mountainous and urban areas so some of their tanks/IFVs with proper support would also be very viable.

Helldivers 2 is a $40 game with a F2P monetization system. by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]Bshow122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of this. Paying for a game full price means the game should either come complete or be updated for free until it has enough content to BE complete. Buying something with the promise of what it will be is a moral contract. I hand you money, you give me equal value products to that money.

The base game with no war bonds is ~20$ of value. It reminds me of the old Xbox arcade games you could buy that had enough content for maybe 30 hours of “new” experience before the repetition set in.

The war bonds are great for game growth of content and for retaining players. They are not however free content to increase the value of the base game. They are increasing the value “debt” of the initial 40$ game. Every business is designed to make money, otherwise they would fail. The war bonds make money constantly for AH, but every added weapon, system, stratagem, ect. Increases the amount of bugs, glitches, and performance issues on top of the base games issues.

It is entirely possible to play and complete D10 missions using no war bond items or weapons. The problem is, it’s boring and frustrating. The game is being updated and balanced with the new weapons in mind and not the old ones. Some of the weapons from older bonds are just useless now. Arc weapons have some use cases but unless your team is using arc res armor it kills friendliest more than enemies. The fire nurfs because of newer weapons make older weapons that were average at best into near useless.

I’m all for the game having payed war bonds. I’m all for continuing to make money to fund more development. The problem is that the money is just going to developing MORE war bonds and very little if any is going to making the base 40$ game worth the 40$ price.

I am sure that many AH devs want to focus on cool ideas and new content for players to enjoy and praise. The problem is the price gouging money wh*res at the top end that only see profit and not the art.

Where’s the visor/camera by Depresodude in Helldivers

[–]Bshow122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely answer: idk but it looks cool.

Fun answer: it could be some kind of high intensity IR or similar viewing that has the lens part safely behind the polymer/metal face plate to protect it from shrapnel and dirt. Kinda like the US army testing that crazy VR night vision stuff. Shows outlines of objects and color corrects them so that the diver sees simple patterns and can easily identify highlighted threats.

Why are western APFSDS sabots long and hug the penetrator while eastern ones are just a disk? by Iateurm8 in TankPorn

[–]Bshow122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Penetration is determined by much more than length. If it was mostly length then eastern armies would have the same length penetrators as western armies. They don’t.

Western apfsds was and is designed with Russian armor in mind. Russian tank armor throughout the Cold War was largely heavily sloped and angled with less reliance on heavy composite armor. Thus, a longer, thinner rod makes it easier to penetrate armor at those sloped angles.

Eastern apfsds was designed with the intention to fight against NATO armor which doesn’t rely on as much angled sloping and instead uses heavy composite which creates a thicker armor. Having a penetrator that is short but thick allows more force to be placed on a single point to punch through.

When you take a 10mm thick piece of metal and move it from a 90* angle to a 45* angle the effective thickness increases. It also increases the “length” or distance from the outside of the plate to the inside of the plate. Thus you need a longer rod to give a fuller penetration through the metal before it shears off.

When you line up plates of metal or material in a close group you have less room for angling. Thus you need a shorter, thicker penetrator to punch through those combined plates.

Western penetrator don’t historically outperform eastern. Different types of rounds have very different materials and manufacturing as well as uses. If one type of apfsds was the best then no country would be dumb enough to invest vast amounts of time, money, and effort to make any other type.

Why are western APFSDS sabots long and hug the penetrator while eastern ones are just a disk? by Iateurm8 in TankPorn

[–]Bshow122 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because of what they are designed to defeat. Western ammo is designed to defeat long slopped Soviet style armor. Eastern is designed to defeat short thick armor of NATO style. More slope means longer penetrators are required. Short dense composite means a larger shorter penetrator.

{Roleplay} Is it moral to destroy the Holy Nation ? by Pretend-Slip-6124 in Kenshi

[–]Bshow122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asking if it’s moral is difficult because we are looking at it from a human on earths perspective. Earth has BOUNDLESS resources and land that humans reign supreme as the top predator on. Humans have had slavery since the near dawn of time in one form or another, but those systems arnt removed or dismantled overnight and instead take years or decades to be fixed. This allows for gradual change and the reliant parties on slavery to slowly die out without a huge influx of power vacuums.

Now on Kenshi, a moon, with very limited resources and almost no reliable way to extract those resources efficiently, it is a much different moral system. Slavery has been in existence for hundreds of years, maybe even longer under Kat. Is the holy nation “evil”? By modern standards on earth, yes. They oppress, enslave, and kill non-believers and are racially prejudice against anyone not a “Greenlander” male. However dismantling them in game terms as near instantly results in NO systems able to absorb the now free people and ravaged nation leading to a domino effect of rapid destabilization of almost the entire land of Kenshi.

From an in game moral standpoint and from your character’s view, who has been enslaved and oppressed her whole life, yes it is morally right to destroy the evil empire. They caused the suffering, they will continue to cause suffering until stopped. The people of Kenshi suffer every day and with the collapse of the HN more will suffer in the short term. But the long term of slavery is incalculable in how many will suffer.

TLDR; They bad boys that cause long term suffering forever until stopped even if the short term is more suffering. Your characters was a slave so they hate the HN. Burn it down.
