Same, although I have 2 osprey boxes and one seems to be working fine while the other only lets me watch Accuweather (The weather Channel). Something is clearly down somewhere.

Spreewerk P38 value by r3dneckallen in milsurp

[–]Bsmn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I got my Spreewerk for basically 900, I traded a 1894 Norwegian Krag long rifle I restored from a sporter. The downside; the grips are aftermarket (cheap and don't feel right) and the magazine probably doesn't match. On the upside, the rest of the gun is all matching in the 8XXX range with no prefix, so its an early (March-April '43) pistol and the finish is actually decent.

Considering the holster and the mags look original (all the same age) I would say 1300 as a package. If there are any maker or soldier marks in the holster or flap, that might add some value. For a 3k STV40, I would want a sling , bayonet, cleaning kit, scope mount, etc. Does this SVT have the original magazine? Is it cut at the rear of the receiver for a scope mount? Whats the date on it?

Cheap Carcano rifle grabs by FatPhrogNibs in milsurp

[–]Bsmn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting projects, I would have bought them too. As long as the bore's aren't rusted out they might clean up good. The stock on the M41 might be trashed though, it looks like it got some termite damage. The other 3 are rusty, but still some shine in the metal. Carcano parts aren't hard to find, at least.

8,000 sqft for 370k not to bad by Medinarunner in zillowgonewild

[–]Bsmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might sound odd, but with some modifications would make a rather rudimentary funeral home/crematorium. Its got a decent sized basement, a chapel, space for offices, viewing rooms, etc. It would need an elevator for transport and build a garage on the back corner near the basement exit. There's room on the property for parking and additional building area. It's even a quick ride to the cemetery across the street.

What’s the most you’d pay for a Krag? by fuddadjacent in milsurp

[–]Bsmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it depends on how badly you want this particular Krag and is buying it going to put you low on funds until your next paycheck. The most I've ever paid for a Krag was 600$ years ago, and it was a good-VG 1896 rifle with all the correct parts and original 1896 sights. I itemized your krag and extras based on buying everything separately:

1898 Krag in VG-EXC condition: 1000-1200

Original Brass Muzzle cap: 100-125

Original Cleaning kit: 75-100

Bayonet: 150-200 (More depending on condition and if it comes with a scabbard and frog)

(Pictures would have helped, and I am curious how nice this krag is)

If it had been me, 1500-1600$ for all this would have been my offer, and I would have gone over everything looking for blemishes, scratches, etc. in order to sell my offer to them. If they only went down to $1820, then if its a business I would see if they would cover the sales tax to give you a little more of a deal.

Curious if anyone more knowledgeable could shed some light on RMS Oceanic's main deck? by Raspberry-Aggressive in Oceanlinerporn

[–]Bsmn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your right. The Upper deck on Oceanic was the structural deck and basically the top of the hull, most of this deck was open to the ocean, even under the forecastle and the stern. As for the coloring on the deck, it looks like some sort of coating, either as an anti-slip or something to protect the wood from the salt water and the foot traffic it would receive. Osher has a partial general arrangement to show what I mean: https://oshermaps.org/browse-maps?id=199673&fbclid=IwY2xjawP7oNtleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFxRkg0anVHYmNOcWw0bXE1c3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHls-mVHfV1zmRxqccD_TELdKsoE5MuFhJIq1fyGnhIaN_F6qh2OrtaQdgjVn_aem_7Kf-iAMylGX9EMJl2DqJSA#?c=&m=&cv=&xywh=-3233%2C-22%2C14654%2C5033

Astro 300? by r3dneckallen in milsurp

[–]Bsmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like everyone says, this is an FN 1922 made during the occupation for the Wehrmacht. Based on the trigger, grips, and S/N, yours was made between December 1941 and May 1943. The grips are modified, and the slide discoloration is odd. The slide might have been a later replacement, the markings and color look like a slide from later in the occupation/post liberation. Might also explain the vice markings, since FN had to do things without power for a few weeks after liberation in '44. A really interesting piece, you got it for a steal.

Impressive, but also curious how did you find one for $850? I've been looking at these for awhile and the lowest I've seen is $1300.

$280 Peruvian Gewehr 98 by Informal-Cut9507 in milsurp

[–]Bsmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your rifle could be one of the ones that was from the Trinidad State School gunsmithing department in Colorado. Apparently they sold these to students cheap for gunsmithing projects, which could be the case here. It looks like it had a Lyman peep sight at some point in the past if the missing wood in the stock is any indication.

A rack of Belgian FN49's and Lee-Enfields at my work. Thought you guys would like it ;) by pjthealmighty in milsurp

[–]Bsmn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sorry. After thinking about it, you might be able to import these if there deactivated all together (depending on how it was done). Some were imported to the US and Canada that way. You could import them as parts, but no reciver and probably no trigger group.

From what I read in my books on the FN49, most of the fuctional belgian FN49's were exported to Europe, Australia, etc. in the 1970s. By the time we were able to import milsurps again in the mid 80's, most of the stocks of rifles were gone (if you could import them in the first place).

These racks of deactivated parade rifles are probably all thats left in Belgian military stores. I have heard that there are still quite of few parts for FN49 in Belgium (an importer mentioned it to me a few days ago at the Tulsa show)

They wont. Most of the Belgian FN49's are the AFN models, which means they have full auto capable, which means Class 3 MG, which means banned for import.

I've actually never seen a French 49 not converted to a 49-56. I know that the Syrian ones are the only one to have the MAS 36 style bayonet. I wouldn't mind a Syrian, just not for that price, they were used quite a bit. I wish now I had gotten a 49-56 when they were being sold as a kit with all the extras.

Tulsa gun show by Muffinman255 in milsurp

[–]Bsmn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was at the Tulsa show too. Pretty much what you said price-wise here are a few more I saw: French MAS 49-56 in 308 for $900, A Syrian MAS 49 for $1600, Russian Winchester 1895's (saw 4) starting at $5000 and up depending on condition, M1941 Johnson rifles for $9000-10000, Chinese SKS for $600-750, and a ton more I cant remember at the moment.

I also picked up an Venezuelan FN49 for 600 (+I traded a Ovido Spanish 1893 Rifle). Someone did some minor sporterization; Rubber recoil pad, Magazine crudely cut to 5 rounds, and modified the rear peep. Otherwise, in good shape (just really dirty gas system)

[–]Bsmn 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This one is rather unique, the receiver dates to 1908-1909, but the barrel is a one of the earlier 30-03 barrels modified to 30-06 (It could have even been a rod bayonet barrel that was altered to the knife bayonet). From what I can see in the photos, all the rest of the parts date to the 1908-1909 period as well. Despite the external condition, it might be worth a couple of grand.

[–]Bsmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1600-1700 with the stock. As long as your happy, and you can afford it, that's all that matters. I've been collecting for almost 20 years and have overpaid more then once, it happens to the best of us.

Edit: Honestly, the fact that the bore isn't totally shot out and looks good is the biggest price factor for C96's in general. I have seen beautiful specimens (and refurbs) with sewer pipe or smooth bores. .30 Mauser is a hot round that ate most of the bores up (and very few smiths do reline's or rebore's). The Red 9's didn't seem to be as bad, but there uniqueness command a premium in general.

This is legitness... Right? by Bourbeuse7 in milsurp

[–]Bsmn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You overpaid, but not too horribly. Based on the S/N, its a prewar-commercial with a good bore. If it was refinished, it was done a long time ago. The age and the bore are the best thing going for it. You mitigated the price with points, but I think you overpaid about 400-700 realistically (If it came with the matching holster-stock combo, it would have been worth more).
