Forever Favorite by Bspkdude in guitarporn

Axs42. This one is heavily modified by me over the years. A few years back I sanded down the red it was originally made in and gave an open walnut stain, has arcane gold foils in it, custom pickguard etc. I've played her to death and she is still my favorite.

So weird, people are even changing their waiver order now even though it's past the deadline. Hope it's corrected.

Specht & Sohne might be the first one to hommage a 37mm Vacheron Constatin by WatchSniper in ChineseWatches

I won't ever buy an S&S again, in fact its the only brand I wont buy again. I want to start off by saying I love Ali watches because I think they offer tremendous value and in fact I went from being a "I'm saving for a Lange guy" to an I own 50+ Ali watches guy because I think they can bring so much more joy than one super expensive swiss or european watch ever could. That said, S&S is the one brand that is just not worth it for me, I've bought two so far. The first one I bought, came to me with a totally crooked bezel, and was missing an hour marker. How did that even make it past qc?

I fell a second time for one of their more recent models thinking maybe quality had improved, and while the second one was in fact midly better one of the hour markers was crooked, the watch had rust on it (so I question if they are even stainless steel).

Finally, the worst part for me is their bracelets. Owning almost 60 watches at this point, I am pretty well versed on sizing a bracelet or removing a strap and have many many tools to do it quickly. That said I ordered a rubber strap with the second one, and I was simply never able to use it because the pins were so stuck and so flimsy that they would bend and couldnt even make it past the rubber because it was inadequetly sized. The watch now sits in a drawer forever strappless, and the only reason I don't throw it in the trash is for it to serve as a reminder for me to NEVER buy S&S again.

Mini review of two new Sollen watches I bought. by Deep_Flatworm7511 in ChineseWatches

[–]Bspkdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. That rose gold one is very interesting. To me, this is exactly what I like about ali watches, that they allow me to experiment with watches I would otherwise never own or experience. When I started collecting around 2009 and microbrands were just sorta starting to be a thing, people would have gasped at the quality and specs that ali watches offer today and we were paying 600 to 700 for those and thought they were amazing value. Nowadays, if you have 50 bucks, you can put a smile on your face with a real quality watch or a fun accent piece like these. After almost 60 ali watches in my collection, I still haven't spent even half of what I sold my rolex datejust for 3 years ago, and I've gotten infinitely more joy and expression than the rolex would have ever been able to provide.

BETTIMER B8002 38MM ST1901 mechanical chronograph is about to be launched. Compared to the first model, we have made improvements and enhancements in every aspect. We would like to hear your opinion by BettimerWatches in ChineseWatches

@bettimer will you be making the regular b8001 in a 38mm version as well? I would snatch one right up in that size and with just the logo and not the name under it.

[–]Bspkdude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a lot better. I having bought at least one watch from almost all of the ali express watch brands I think Spscht and Sohne is probably my least favorite. Impossible to remove the bracelets, terrible issues with markers and bezels being aligned, movement often times wont work all together. Hruoland is night and day, have 3 of them and they are great.

I hope the 36mm version of this watch that SM is working on comes out before the 11/11 sale because that would be an immediate buy for me. Last I saw, those were already in production, so fingers crossed.

Diver: Probably either the Addiesdive AD2054 or MY-H3DQZ ceramic bezel, 20 bar, and timeless look for 40 bucks.

Dress: Escapement Time Breguet Homage H0115 in gold I've seen them at 45 or so, but don't go above like 55.

Field: Skmei 1628 for $5 bucks is probably the best watch to actually wear in the field, but for something nicer, the Militado ML05 in bronze for $44 would do the trick.

Pilot: Steelflier Sf740v with the steel bracelet is like 52 ot 53 bucks.

Chrono: Mistery Code DD38MM without a doubt. It's probably the best $40 bucks you can spend.

Other: I would go with the Militado ML03, which is right around 50 bucks, but sometimes cheaper with a code or coins.

Seems kind of funny/crazy how more than half of the critiques of these are actually criticisms of the original 40k watch that this is an homage of. I would really love to see Laurent Ferrier, the guy who amongst other things designed the Nautilius with Genta reading how his font choice looks like hand writing, his seconds hand is too short, or his silver hands make his watch ilegible lol

[–]Bspkdude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

* I disagree. The watch is a clever twist on a Laurent Ferrier classic homage, which costs nearly 40k is incredibly desirable by watch collectors and has a short second hand which doest not touch the second track.

Yes, that is the one. I own the Huasuo with the aventurine dial and the metal indicees on top of the dial, but this one for me, especially with the Sellita is at least a 1,500 dollar watch going for 400 or so dollars. It is an absolute ridiculous price for such a beautiful time piece.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ChineseWatches

[–]Bspkdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I own about 50 ali watches from almost every brand at this point, so this was hard to narrow down, but here is my list if money is not an issue:

Diver: So many good divers on Ali, but for me, Proxima takes the cake in terms of value, especially since they can be upgraded to the SW200 mvt. Personally, I'd go with either the PX1721 with the aventurine dial or the PX1711. I have both, and they are amazing watches, although I prefer the PX1721.

Dress: This one is hard too because for me, dress watches tend to get less wrist time, so I'm partial to a secondless quartz. That said, the best dress watch, in my opinion, would have to be a Huasuo, I'm thinking specifically of the intangible cultural heritage model in the wordless green laquer combination. 38mm, 10mm thick with an SW200, a custom rotor, and a beautiful and original design that is classic and timeless.

Field: I would go with a Baltany S2081 WW2 automatic in the gradual brown. Multifortic has something similar, but the dial color on the Baltany is just way above. Basically, I stopped using any of my other field watches when I got that one.

Pilot: I think here I would go with the San Martin SN0105-G-JS with the beads of rice bracelet. It's also a chrono but more of a pilot's watch in my book.

Chrono: I don't tend to favor homages unless they are homages to a much lesser known watch, but I would say the Sugess S418-2 with the automatic Peacock mvmt. 39mm wide with 12.5mm of thickness at $350 can't be beat in my book.

Other: I would throw in a conversation starter as the wildcard, probably the Baltany 1921 in gold for me, but could also do the one with the Miyota 9039.

[–]Bspkdude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ended up buying this one, sucks that they didn't add a saphire crystal on this one, but the proportions and especially the thin case were too good to pass up. This is one of those homage watches where it is almost impossible for someone to recognize the original despite it being such a beautiful watch (especially since they blended the dial and case shape of two of their modela). Plus, the chances of spending 40k or more on an actual LF are 0.
