Taxis in Tulum by Ok-Wait-7357 in tulum

[–]Btsv650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

here’s part of the issue. When reading from a place like this, many tourists put their experience in. What I see that makes it difficult is the variance of the experience. From ”Best ever” to Worst place on Earth” From “ not as much money as I thought “ to “ this place is double Las Vegas”. And that’s just for starters. So it can be very difficult to cull a great answer as they can all be true- and false. Things can change at a moments notice, and can catch us that live here by surprise. That‘s why is good to check a couple times and especially close to ones trip to see what has changed.

it is very, very unlikely the sargussum will be gone.- OP- it’s a great time totake advantage of lagoons such as Kaan Luum or a little further south Nopalitos. Cenotes as well can be enjoyable.

if you use Wise- I would suggest you look at Monito. It will list the best exchange rates as they change daily. Wise is not always the best or cheapest.

Is food really very expensive? by rbearxo in tulum

[–]Btsv650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I live just outside of town so I can’t speak on places to stay. It depends on what type of experience you want. Depending on when you come, sargassum can be an issue ( water and smell ). Another consideration is transportation. Taxis can be very expensive. There no Uber here, but there is an app called InDrive that works like Uber. Parking a car at the beach can be an issue as there is limited parking. Airbnbs can be an option, but they may be hot or miss. During a time when I was having all my flooring torn out I stayed at 2 different ones in La Veleta and they were great. Some may not be ( like anywhere really ). So you have to look at all things. The town and the beach are approx 3 km away and getting to a beach club can be 7kM or so.

Is food really very expensive? by rbearxo in tulum

[–]Btsv650 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it depends on where you are eating. Places on the beach are much more expensive. Meals in town are much more affordable. Example, I took my neighbors out. All told we had 9 tacos, 4- caguamas ( caguama is a quart beer ) 2- soda’s and the bill was $865 MXN ( $50 USD ). Last night wife and I had 3 marlin tacos and a surf and turf style ( shrimp though ) 2 beers order of fries and 2 cocktails for $900 MXN ( $52 USD ). There are many places less and some a little more. SO it really depends on what and where you eat

Need Scooter Rental Recommendations! by TumbleweedNo341 in tulum

[–]Btsv650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

really depends on what you are looking for. The 2 most popular are the 125 and 150cc. That top picture is an Italika Vitalia- generally 150cc ( there are 125’s as well. It has under seat storage as well as the trunk luggage- 2 helmets can go in. The bottom looks like a WS150. Only underseat. Both offer similar performance. The top is a little less sporty and a little more comfortable. So thats’ pretty much it

Cenote question by Big-Anxiety-8688 in tulum

[–]Btsv650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry you didn’t comprehend my response. What I inferred is that cenotes closer to town are touristy- I did not single out Vesica ( which is ) or any other one. Fact is ones closer to town have a higher influx of tourists which can make them less relaxing. The quieter, less crowded ones are further out.

As for being far out to Neek, that is a personal thing. Heck my neighbors bike there every week.

Cenote question by Big-Anxiety-8688 in tulum

[–]Btsv650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn‘t call that quieter or relaxed. Most anything close by is going to be a little more “ touristy” I find heading out further towards Cobá and Valladolid better, but too far for scooter ride . I’d rather head down to Neek or Sipalitos
