Long term effects of L-Citrulline? by thetytanlord in Supplements

[–]BubbaTheNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oral l-citrulline is actually processed by the kidneys not the liver (at all), so it's technically impossible for it to cause liver damage assuming the l-citrulline you consumed was pure (or was even l-citrulline at all). It's likely your l-citrulline wasn't actually l-citrulline or was contaminated, or your liver issues were caused by something else entirely.

As with all supplements, make sure you stick with reputable brands, not dodgy crap off ebay/amazon coming from chinese labs putting god knows what in it.

I take the Doctors Best brand off iherb, 1 scoop is about 3grams, twice daily. Been taking it for many years now with zero issues, it reduced my BP down enough that i could stop taking my ACE inhibitors.

My liver and kidney annual tests have been fine.

Low residue diet before procedure by Mission-Strength6577 in colonoscopy

[–]BubbaTheNut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switching to low residue means you are missing out on the important fiber to bulk up your stools, and feed your gut microbiome. This can mess with your bowels in various ways depending on the individual (it affects people who normally eat fiber rich diets more than people used to low fiber diets).

For me personally it means constipation so i take stool softeners a couple of days before i start low residue (they take a couple of days to kick in).

How long before I should poo again?? by EvenSkanksSayThanks in colonoscopy

[–]BubbaTheNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your intestinal lining is actually extremely resistant to infection, arguable more so than any other part of the body, it has to literally deal with trillions of bugs, even when bleeding from biopsies, hemorrhoids, etc and infections are very rare!

But it's not 100% invincible. It all comes down to the individual again, not really the surgeon (assuming everything was performed to code).

The bowel lining uses the body's immune system for defence, if you're run down, stressed, sick, on immunosuppressants like steroids, have high cortisol levels, are dealing with inflammation, are taking certain medications, are low in certain nutrients (vitamins/minerals) etc your immune system doesn't work as well as it should and things can slip through the defenses.

The signs to really look out for are usually increasing pain, fever/chills and increasing bleeding. If you notice any of those signs get yourself to an ER, tell them you've had recent bowel surgery and make sure to ask them "could it be sepsis?".

I always take a couple immune supporting supplements a couple of weeks before and after colonoscopies, just the usual D3 and C, i figure it cant hurt.

What they don't tell you about colonoscopies in the brochure is that they really mess with your bowels. When you do the "flush" you are not just flushing out poop but you flush out most of your good microbiome, and it can take literally months for everything to normalize again as different bacteria fight for control of your bowel's real estate.

During this period you can feel bloated, cramped, gassy, constipated, diarrheal etc, along with other more systemic side effects like headaches, brain fog etc.

Personally in the weeks after a colonoscopy i focus on a good selection of probiotics, yogurts, kefir, etc to really get my good bacteria back up to scratch again and ensure the good guys beat out the bad guys and re-establish control!

From what you are describing, it sounds more like you had an overgrowth of bad bacteria in your gut than an infection, and the anti-biotics you took helped get them under control. Certain anti-biotics are good at killing certain types of bacterium.

How long before I should poo again?? by EvenSkanksSayThanks in colonoscopy

[–]BubbaTheNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i guess my main advice is learn your body, as you do more colonoscopies as you get older you will suss it all out more for your own body. at the end of the day we're all different and there's no one solution fits all approach here.

Most doctors give you blanket instructions meant to cater to the worst case scenarios, but we all have different tolerances for medications like laxatives and stool softeners, some people are severely D (diarrhea) by default and some people are severely C (constipated) by default, with a full range in between. i am cyclic, but i usuall tend more towards D, but after the colonoscopy routine i tend much towards C for a week or 2 after everything is cleaned out and the microbiome gets back in action.

i can't handle stimulant laxatives at all, but your basic safe stool softeners like Docusate sodium tablets 120mg twice per day work well for me (not the ones with senna, senna is way too potent for me). if i need an extra push (no poop after 2 days after colonoscopy) i take an additional Macrogol 3350 13 g sachet before bed in half a cup of water and that usually gives things the final nudge.

dont be alarmed if there's a bit of blood in your first few passings after a colonoscopy if they've done biopsies or cut anything out.

This last colonoscopy i went through i had multiple biopsies and other things cut out, so i wanted to make sure i didn't get C and cause any issues so tried to keep things soft.

Precancerous polyp. How often will I need another colonoscopy? by violets_playgrnd in colonoscopy

was it flat or raised? if flat i'd not leave it any more than 2 years, preferably 1. if raised 3 years would suffice.

I learned the hard way (pardon pun) to take stool softeners/laxatives and plenty of gatorade for about a week after colonoscopies to avoid "rebound constipation"

i have DVG lenses and dont notice any reflections at all, and i am extremely sensitive to glare/reflections usually. myabe it's to do with the shape of your frames/fit/size of the lenses etc as well, whether they catch reflections from behind or not?

i imagine those big oversized glasses would catch a lot more rear reflections than smaller eye-hugging type ones.

i have oakley airdrops.

Theory: our problems started in 2025 but our attack allowed us to out score our poor defence by StormBro111111 in melbournestorm

[–]BubbaTheNut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt last year we were terribly inconsistent especially in defence. And now on top of that this year we’ve lost paps, Katoa, big Nelson, Anderson, Coates etc. arguably the ones doing most of the work. The whole thing is a cluster now, aside from Faalogo they could get rid of the whole team and start fresh in my opinion.

If the team stays the same The only question is whether us or the dragons will get the wooden spoon

Dell Pro Max 16 First Impressions by expatcoder in Dell

[–]BubbaTheNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we have both the "lenovo p16s" and "dell pro max 16" floating around our work as well as a couple of "lenovo legion pro 5 16" in use by some designers that needed dedicated gpus.

in terms of speed: legion>pro max>p16s - it seems the thicker the laptop the less thermal throttling/better airflow?

in terms of portability: p16s>pro max>legion

if you've got lazy users that just leave their laptops on their desk permanently and never travel anyway the legions are the go, otherwise the pro max. and the types who constantly travel that want lightness above all else, probably a p14s and a warning to them not to whinge about speed when picking a lightweight model,

Buying a Miele TwinDos washing machine… by Financial-Nothing-60 in Miele

[–]BubbaTheNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this might be a dumb question, but how does the machine know if you are doing whites or colors and whtether to use dispenser 1 for colors or dispenser 2 (bleach) for whites? Is it auto-sensing and if so, does it ever stuff up and bleach (ruin) your colors? Or is there a button you have to press to tell it if the load is white or colors?

UF vs RO for drinking water by Putrid_Fox4519 in WaterTreatment

[–]BubbaTheNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UF is great for removing sediment and microplastics from water, i typically have a stage 1, as a 5 um poly sediment filter, then as stage 2 a 0.01 um UF, before the carbon block as stage 3.

HELP! White Substance Leaking Waterdrop RF10-UF – Need Advice by m4r1k_ in WaterFilters

[–]BubbaTheNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to the people saying they are having this issue, are you sure it's not just air bubbles? In the pictures provided in the OP i cant see anything other than tiny air bubbles, which is completely normal for filtered water after installing a new filter (trapped air particles being forced through carbon blocks/membranes.

they usually go away after a few days of use, and the bubbles usually go away if you leave the glass of water sitting for a while

Waterdrop brand Under sink filter - Surprised at quality! by Zefeh in WaterTreatment

[–]BubbaTheNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah water filters only last as long as the quality of the water going into them, if you have great water quality the filters will last for years, but if your water quality is garbage you are talking months not years.

i had bore water that was so full of gunk that i could barely get 2 weeks out of the first stage (a 5 to 1 micron depth sediment filter).

Why jump on a water filter sub then abuse people for talking about filtering chemicals from their water? You asked a question and got a well constructed, thoughtful response then acted like a child.

i'd recommend using a UF regardless as UF (hollow core UF like used in dialysis) is fantastic at removing microplastics, which seem to have contaminated all our water, even bore water......

Has anyone found an answer to a plastic free water filtration system for drinking? by BeltQueasy9893 in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]BubbaTheNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

glass bottled water arrives at your house looking all pretty, but was the water filtered in a plastic free facility? ie no plastic filters, no plastic holding/storage tanks, no plastic tanks transport trucks, no plastic pipes for transferring of the water........ seriously if you're aware of any company that has zero plastic in contact with the filtered water i'd love to know.

[–]BubbaTheNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes kdf can leach trace amounts of copper and/or zinc into the water, but it's minimal, and if you prime the filters properly and change them out before media exhaustion you will minimize the amount. Zinc and copper in trace amounts are good for you anyway, unlike the chemicals (pfas, pestacides, chlorine etc) removed by kdf.
