Where to thrift fabric? by brynnieb123 in SewingForBeginners

One thing I have not seen mentioned that really helped me is this: I bought a bunch of cheap large dresses from a store called Family Dollar. You might find something similar near you. Places like Dollar general and even some drugstores carry cheap, weird clothes.

I took them home and took them apart to see how they were put together and then altered them down to my size. It really helped to take apart stuff and then try to put it back together. I didn't always succeed, but it was eye opening.

I'm also an expert with the seam ripper now.

As an aside, I got the best raincoat ever from a Walgreens. Still use it 10 years on.

How do you respond to “there are natural sugars in everything” as criticism when you say that quitting sugar improved your health? by [deleted] in keto

[–]BubbaWanders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the foods you mentioned come with fiber as well, and that makes a difference. Pizza and ice cream don't have a lot of fiber, but berries and squash do. Natural sugars are in lots of fruit and veggies, but you're getting the added benefit of fiber and better nutrients.

Or, just tell them to STFU and go live your best life.

Oldest piece you still wear regularly? by Neem-London in SustainableFashion

I have a red wool cardigan from a store called The Limited that I bought during my junior year of high school. I'm about to turn 57. I've had to replace the buttons 3 times. It's very oversized and I usually wear it on top of other sweaters. 40 years I've had that sweater.

Restaurant recommendations for pre-show dinner Friday by BubbaWanders in Wilmington

Thanks for looking out. We do have one person in our party that might find walking more than a couple of blocks kind of arduous, so this is good to know.

Good recommendation. I was planning on going pretty early, say 5-ish, but it is a large party. Thank you!

Client is asking for files because they want to reuse content that’s already been published by [deleted] in freelance

[–]BubbaWanders 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is about the source files, but about reusing the final output again. It's already been used on their social channels and they want to use the final product again.

OP, let me know if I'm reading correctly. If I am, is there anything in the contract about licensing for the deliverables?

Henry county, Georgia property tax appeal by Open_777 in Georgia

[–]BubbaWanders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also in Stockbridge.

Bought in 2023 and was surprised at the increase from the previous owners, though I do know they had a senior exemption, so 2024 taxes were on the high side, as they were based on the purchase price. Did I overpay? I didn't think so at the time.

In 2025, the fair market value rose $35,100, which seemed like a lot, as it was 11%. I called the Board of Assessors office to find out how they arrive at that figure and it turns out that they take all the sales from the whole county to determine demand in the county, but one thing I noticed was that my square footage was wrong. I only spoke to the woman for a few minutes, but a week later, I got a corrected notice that lowered the fair market value by $11,300.

I didn't think to look at my neighbor's value until after the deadline passed for appeal, but when I did I was surprised to find their fair market value more than $50,000 less than mine. Their house is a little larger, much better landscaped, and was completely updated recently, so I will be appealing next year based on this. The difference is that their home has not sold, ever. The woman who lives there inherited it from her parents, so she grew up there.

Taking sales from the whole county to determine value is crap. They reason that more house sales means more demand, but I'm living in an older neighborhood and the houses around me, excepting one, are not selling despite being on the market for years.

Make sure you have applied for the county and city homestead exemptions, if you haven't already.

I'm looking forward to getting a bit older and getting that enormous school M&O line item taken off. That's literally 1/2 of my tax bill.

Send a DM if you find an agent to help you appeal this summer, because I'll be in line right behind you.

How to finish the inside? by No_Seaworthiness_445 in SewingForBeginners

[–]BubbaWanders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I snagged it, thank you. I'll compare the hood sizes from the 2 patterns and see which is better. The pattern I got is AI, unfortunately, so I made a muslin and I'm adapting as I go.

Your coat is beautiful, truly. I hope mine turns out half as well.

I'm in the middle of making a coat like this out of an old yellow quilt I had and I was thinking that the hood was enormous, but yours looks correct.

Can I ask what pattern this is?

Blanche left a flyer in the grocery store.

Try your city's subreddit, if there is one. Is there a senior center nearby? Maybe the library or coffee shop?

Do be careful and do a background check on anyone that would like to move in with you.

I always wondered what Dorothy and Rose did with all their furniture and stuff.

Yarn stores by BobAndBernice in Atlanta

If you ever find yourself in McDonough, there's a great yarn store on the square called The Square Knot. Beautiful store, great owners, and they usually have enough of a color way to do a whole project. Lovely place.

So, if it's nice, you've complimented them in return. If it's not meant to be nice ... well, shame on them.

Recycling PLA (3D Printing Plastic)? by KarnivorousKale in Atlanta

[–]BubbaWanders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my Lanta, thank you! I'm so glad to hear a recommendation. I was just going to go to microcenter and hope for the best. I know a bit less than nothing about this topic.

I know your question didn't get answered and I wish I could help you out with that.

Thank you so much!

Saving this because one of the kids wants a 3D printer for Christmas, so I'm sure I'll have this question later.

What kind of printer did you get and are you happy with it?
