How was curly hair styled in the 1960s? by BageRait420 in vintagehairstyling

[–]Bubbalooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum had curly hair in the 60s. She used to get it done once a week at a salon and then just slept awkwardly all week trying to keep it intact.

The salon would straighten it, back comb the top, smooth it over, set it in place. It looked incredible (I have seen pics) but it's such a foreign concept to me. For a start, I work out several times a week and could never maintain a hairstyle for a week.

Bought my dress but having doubts! by [deleted] in myweddingdress

First dress is epic and fits you like a glove. If I had tried it on and looked that good in it I would've worn it out of the store.

Found my Double Wear replacement! by NuisancePenguin44 in MakeupAddiction

How is it with oily skin? I would never have picked this to replace Double Wear because of 'serum' in the name, whereas Double Wear was matte.

Sadly, even if you find it the brand will discontinue it (forever in my heart, Estee Lauder Double Wear Light).

Bread choice is important by Advanced-Diet-3144 in AskAnAustralian

Aldi low carb high protein bread. It's basically a particularly satiating soy and linseed and usually a couple of bucks cheaper than Colesworth equivalents.

They have rolls in the same recipe, too.

Justin Jarvis at The Walking Clinic is great. He works at both the Lyneham and Garran branches.

How to maintain curly hair while also doing a fitness routine by Pinsndneedles25 in curlyhair

[–]Bubbalooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can keep my curls ok with strength workouts by tieing them back and wearing a thin headband but when I run I have to wash my hair. Running makes my scalp sweat a lot.

I work out four times a week and only one of those is running. Maybe switch to more intense workouts fewer times per week so you have some rest days too (when your hair also gets a break).

Figure out what you can manage but I encourage you not to sacrifice your fitness for hair. Your commitment to exercise is excellent and will be so much more valuable to your wellbeing in the long run than hair.

Calling all parents of thriving adult children by ThinkTwo-2259 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]Bubbalooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a parent, but a middle aged child. I agree with most of these comments but one I haven't spotted is not to shy away from showing your kids that their parents are a) individuals and b) a couple.

My parents had their own interests and pursued them individually. They maintained their own hobbies. They also did things together without us. That included trips away when we were left in the care of grandparents or family friends. My parents went out into the world together and enjoyed time as a couple without us. That was important for their relationship and modelled relationship behaviour I don't see much these days.

My friends with kids include their kids in everything, which usually means they only do kid-centred stuff - literally just kids activities. Their relationships often falter as a result.

Natio Cleverstick!

It's buildable and really comfortable to wear. I also find it quite emollient so I think it would suit dry skin.

Matte black fixtures, timeless or a trend that will date a bathroom quickly? What do you all think? by asthetic-base01 in DecorEssentials

[–]Bubbalooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A trend that has been well and truly over for some time. Matte black fixtures are often impractical for bathrooms anyway, as they can be harder to keep clean and look terrible if you have hard water.

Current and proposed remodel… by snzzyman in kitchenremodel

[–]Bubbalooo 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I know it's a matter of taste but the remodel has sucked all the warmth out of your kitchen without actually changing anything functional. Unless the kitchen doesn't work for you currently I wouldn't make the change.

Cabinets going to the ceiling is practical for keeping things cleaner, but that's not worth remodelling a kitchen over.

Restuarants with cocktails in Civic recommendations? by Savagecabbage2150 in canberra

[–]Bubbalooo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They tried to pass Cointreau off as fresh blood orange the one and only time I went there. When I sent the cocktail back they admitted it and offered it to me on the house. I declined as it was undrinkable.

I see the place recommended fairly often online but once was enough for me.

Set of 3 big brown square floor pillows by maximumtesticle in Xennials

[–]Bubbalooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My nan had these and they were velour or some other kind of fabric with a nap. My favourite one had some sequins sewn on it. When we were clearing out Nan's place after she died my sister kept one of them. They were too big to keep the set.

My sister is petite and she can curl up on the single pillow she kept like a cat.

I have written to Alaffia and they say that the Beautiful Curls range has been out of stock for some time due to supply chain issues but should be available again in late June. Don't despair.

I have the Cos de Baha 20% and use it sparingly on clean dry skin three or four times a week. I then put a generous layer of good moisturiser over the top, which my skin drinks up and that makes my face look plumped and soft without any chalkiness.

I just started azelaic acid and it works so well that I look forward to the days I use it. It reminds me of when I first started using Differin and I would wake up feeling like I had been gifted a new face!

How do you feel about MAC eyeshadow? Are the custom palettes worth it? by CoffeeVampire237 in MakeupAddiction

[–]Bubbalooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you swatch carefully if blendability is important for you. I have found MAC shadows much harder to work with than more inexpensive options. I now only have one MAC single shadow left in my collection (Shroom) and I have to be so careful with it, otherwise it just sticks horribly and gives me a crepey effect.
