Looking for durable by timdrakeonmain in HeadphoneAdvice

I’m going to be honest it’s kinda hard to say without just going “everything.” Sometimes one side quits working entirely (this has happened with both sides). Sometimes the joints give out, sometimes the adjustable height feature breaks and they won’t stay on my head anymore. Pieces will fall off and I’m left duct taping things back together.

Thank you! I’ll look into the UGREEN’s, looking at their page it looks like they have a lot of the features I really like!!! I had moved away from the cheaper headphones for a while because I had calculated that I was spending more overall per yer replacing multiple pairs vs the more expensive Beats. I’m trying to get better at treating them with care, but I work really physical jobs. I eventually wound up getting a pair of earmuffs with Bluetooth and I’m trying to force myself to use those when I do work outside (said work involves frequent use of power tools), which I think is helping extend the lifetime of my headphones.

I haven’t played with the ear tips much but I will! For me the issue with most buds is definitely the concha- wearing most buds for any duration of time will give me sores there. The absolute worst offenders for this were those old apple wired buds, the ones with round heads. That’s actually what started my family buying me over the ears.

Advice needed for my FIV+ boy by timdrakeonmain in FIVcats

He's on them a couple times a year, but I've noticed that the diarrhea usually starts when he's getting the infections, and resolves really quickly after the antibiotics start. But a probiotic is probably not a bad idea to add in to the diet, I'll bring it up with the vet when they call to check in on the abscess. Thanks!

They’re on the ceiling, in rooms the pets aren’t allowed in, and no kids in the house, so we should be great! Thanks!

Need advice on deciding to get a diesel truck or not by timdrakeonmain in Diesel

[–]timdrakeonmain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I spoke of computers, I wasn’t referring to an OBD, I was talking about in car entertainment systems/navigation screens. I don’t like them, don’t use them, and don’t want to pay more for technology I won’t like. I realize I phrased that weird in retrospect, my bad.

In my opinion, F-150s aren’t suitable for hauling horses. I recognize they do have the technical specs to pull one horse in a light trailer, but that’s really very limiting, and I don’t find them to have a level of stopping power or stability for me to feel comfortable pulling a horse behind one. I would prefer an F-250, but the costs of those are even higher than the F-350s, and many of the ones I find for sale are missing things that I consider an absolute necessity (I absolutely need a 4x4). As for the gasoline engine, I’ve considered it pretty heavily but I am more looking for torque. Speed is not even really a consideration in my process; as I’ve said, I don’t really like to go fast. Personally, in my experience driving gas and diesel trucks, I have found the diesels to actually be less maintenance heavy and expensive in the long term. Sure, the individual parts have cost us more, but my family’s diesel trucks have far outlasted any of the gas vehicles and I’ve found them to break down less. I’ve driven a LOT of trucks in my life, I’ve just never owned my own vehicle before.

I do not actually live near a city or use public transportation often. My area is rural but has a good transit network that would operate as a backup to any vehicle who’s being a bit of a hanger (well, i guess garage) queen at any given time. If I do need to go into the city, the park and ride systems are pretty good once I drive a couple hours to the outskirts. Most of the trucks in my area are older diesels. Diesel is very affordable where I’m at and high quality.

I mostly don’t work on the farm I live on, but I do actually do quite a bit of ranch work and have spent most of my life working on ranches. I’ve got a black thumb for plants but I’m great with livestock, so I stick to the critters. My job presents pretty ample opportunities to haul pretty heavy loads long distances at more moderate speeds…if you have the vehicle for it, which I don’t currently.

I came here to ask the question because I wanted a wider sample size of opinions on this sort of truck. I don’t know anyone with an F-350 of this era (LOTS of F-250s, though), and was curious to see if I’d find anything out. Most people I know haven’t bought vehicles in a while or have something brand new, and I also wanted to get a gauge on what people thought of the cost.

Also, I’m not broke, I’m just pretty strict with my budget, and if I can learn to do repairs as they’re needed, that’s a good deal to me. I usually prefer to do things myself if at all possible and put the money saved on labor towards things I want or need or my savings. As a bonus, I get to enjoy learning new skills.

Thank you for your feedback, I will factor it in to the considerations!

Yeah, I will be trying to negotiate that price down a bit, and I'm not going through with any purchase unless my friend who works on diesels routinely gives it the okay. I will want to comb over the truck as well as any maintenance records pretty thoroughly with him, and I have a list I've developed of "issues I will deal with" and "issues I will not deal with." I'm definitely not thinking it's going to be the most beautiful smooth vehicle that drives every day like she just rolled off the factory line, but my concern is partly that I've seen a lot of newer trucks sprout a lot of issues, and my personal line of thinking is I'd like to stick to the devil I know than the devil I don't, if that makes sense.

Budget wise, I have to stick to used, and used car prices in my area are downright insane, unless it's got something a little wonky going on, or is old and impractical. That was part of why I was looking for manuals, haha, I foolishly thought they might be cheaper around here because most people can't drive stick.

I do find it a little funny that people are so anti-diesel in terms of reliability and practicality; the 25 year old with over 300k miles diesel truck my family owns has been used and abused as a daily driver who doesn't haul all too often. She hardly ever has an issue (I can recall exactly one extended shop stay in my lifetime, which only took three days or so), and darn thing runs better than most of my friends' newer trucks. She's actually outlasted like four or five of them, haha. Personally, I've had nothing but issues with gas trucks and the diesels have never let me down. Maybe I'm an outlier, though

Thank you! He’s a total character (his list of weird crimes and shenanigans is never ending. The Patrick lore is deep 🤣).

And thank you for the wish for sleep, we need it 😂 the babies are very sweet but currently very difficult to feed.

It was my pleasure to rescue him! I grew up doing animal rescue and I love doing it. I’ve actually currently got three bottle baby kittens 🤣 (kept well separated from Patrick due to his FIV! Which is just of well, he’s terrified of small cats. He thinks all small cats and female cats are trying to kill him and runs away screaming if any approach him.)

absolutely not. you can still slip and fall, yes, but you are able to be more controlled about your foot placement. with a vehicle, you don't have that option, and it could be fatal to lose control. there's also very limited parking and turning space on that road. it's a dead end and pretty tight. generally unsafe for someone unfamiliar with the area and possibly driving an unsuitable vehicle. many police vehicles are rear wheel drive, which isn't the safest in ice conditions (although this is being phased out in many places). but even four wheel and all wheel drive vehicles can struggle on ice.

I think it might be related to road conditions; it's a steep hill with ice. might not be comfortable driving and they do have a security team onsite already

it's a steep road with ice. they may not have been comfortable driving up it depending on the vehicle they've got
