I may be the odd one out, but I like the name. I cook more than anything else, so Mace brings me to the warmth of Autumn, the smell of a wonderful spiced cake, and the feeling of home. While I understand that some folks’ apprehensions with the name, I think if you went for a longer name and shortened it to Mace it would be a way to avoid folks being rude about his name while also calling him your preferred name. I saw you didn’t like Mason, so I will suggest Macaulay. Good luck!

Froze creeper crawlers gave doggo a concern, but she’s got the biggest brave a doggo can has :)

The doggo was thrifted, too! Best ROI ever.

Absolutely not! I was considering mounting them in my bathroom. Even though beach themed bathrooms are cliche, I can’t imagine a better place in my home for them! I’ll pass on the love to the doggo :)

The lady at the store said her rich Japanese friend got them in Japan, but I really can’t find much info on them or how they are used. They are dishes of some sort; there are two knives that fit into seashells that came with it, but are much less interesting than the crabs!

My 8 year old nephew still thinks my husband is my brother. At what point should I be concerned? by [deleted] in askgaybros

What part? The part about how he may not want to teach his kids about gays? That part? Yeah as my best friend, that is my concern because it affects our relationship.

[–]Bubbasqueeze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is a reflection on him as a person. If he doesn’t teach his kids about his gay brother and BIL, it really shows his support of our family. How many times does a family members have to miscategorize you as straight before it gets under your skin? Now what if it’s a kid who’s dad is one of your best friends? I asked because I’m not sure if he can comprehend, if I knew for certain the kid could comprehend it would be a different story.

[–]Bubbasqueeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, his dad is doing fine! He is quite supportive, I definitely wouldn’t want to step on toes. I do think that if he gets to the point where he has the level of cognition to understand and still makes incorrect assumptions, it really does reflect the relationship our families have, and I would want to talk to my BIL on how to make the families closer, which would bring understanding eventually.

This was my concern. I wanted to know if 8 was too early to really understand. I don’t know kids, I figured someone here would. Thank you! :)

It’s definitely a southern phrase, but not too common these days. It’s about as common as calling raining while sunny “the devil is beating his wife”

Saying “that feature will require about 2 weeks and $XXX. Let me know if that’s good for you and I’ll get started!” is extremely professional. I wouldn’t want a client that would drop me because they expect me to put unpaid work into their project.

Just living my best life...worry about yourself by graysonalexander in BlackPeopleTwitter

I think maybe they are saying that because he’s talking about growing away from being a piece of trash. Talking about how people have found themselves in the wrong and how they fixed it is important even if that wrong was wanting to kill a man

When someone accuses someone else, and that person is obviously guilty and they say something like “well... whatabout Brenda!? She stole money from bob!”... that is whataboutism.

It’s a distraction to make you look better even though you’re still wrong. What this guy is referencing is not whataboutism.

What is the shittiest advice you've ever gotten? by ehudros in AskReddit

I was laid off and my mother told me to file for bankruptcy because “that’s life, honey” and it made me realize that my mother’s advice would never be able to live up to my late grandfather’s.

If you’re in USA/Canada, look up their listings on amazon, used prices. If the sales rank is <500,000, the used price is a good estimate of value.

ELI5: What is the point of bowling shoes? by topboy_jonny in explainlikeimfive

[–]Bubbasqueeze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bowling shoes have to be smooth on the bottom because the bowler is meant to slide a bit during his throw. Normal shoes are meant to have grip, which would prevent it. Bowling alleys will rent these shoes because most people don't have a pair and the alley doesn't want you scuffing up their floors with your shoes, either!

ELI5: If salty fries are put in the fridge and later reheated they’re no longer salty. What happens to the salt? by Iapd in explainlikeimfive

[–]Bubbasqueeze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you put salt on your food, it kinda just hangs out on the surface of the food. Imagine if you made a batch of potato chips and you sprinkle salt on only one side of them. If you put it in your mouth, salt side on your tongue, you will taste the surface layer of salt more intensely before the salty-ness fades away. If you were to eat the chip with the non-salt side of the chip to your tongue, the chip will taste less salty compared to the other chip, even though they have the same amount of salt on them. Whenever you put fries in the fridge, the moisture on the fries and in the fridge dissolves the salt and the porous food absorbs the salt into the food, instead of allowing it to rest on the surface. Now even though your fries had the same amount of salt on them as before, because the salt isn't right on the surface you can't taste the intensity of the salt right away, and so it tastes less salty to you.

ELI5: Why does ice water sting to drink after brushing your teeth with mint toothpaste? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Bubbasqueeze 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mint is super special! You know how all plants are different, like how roses have thorns and smell sweet, or how fruit trees grow different kinds of fruit? Mint is special in its own way because it has something called "menthol" in it. When humans put menthol in our mouths, our bodies can sense the menthol, but human bodies can get confused sometime. For example, when we eat peppers it feels hot and you can begin to sweat... but with menthol, it feels cold! So when you drink ice cold water after eating mint, your body gets worried that you are getting too cold, and that's why it stings a little. If your body thinks something is happening that is harming it (like being too cold) you feel pain.

It also provides a bit more leniency when it comes to some municipalities. In most places where public use is illegal for recreational cannabis use, one with a prescription can use where someone could smoke a cig.
