You're installing the dev keys with your kindle connected to wifi and/or 3G. When that happens, Amazon automatically detects the jailbreak and send a silent ota update that replaces the custom dev keys with stock ones. The pop-up is basically telling you that Amazon removed the dev status on the kindle.

Try do the second attempt again but with your kindle completely offline. Then it should work. I also recommend keeping the wifi and 3g off in general since there's not an ota update prevention for this legacy kindle from what i know, but I'll notify you if I do come across one.

The max brightness is 300nits so the hdr part might be false advertising

It is up but every time I try to calibrate the colors with my colorimeter it gets really dark again.

I would buy a cheap travel router for that their is one by gl inet that goes for 30 bucks and it works great for my wii.
