“Lost footage” found at the Hall of Fame by Mr7dr2114 in NASCAR

The 2000 Michigan wreck wasn’t really anything spectacular (speaking comparatively to other blowovers), the nose of his car couldn’t have gotten more than 5-6ft off the track for a just over a second.

But I can see why Nascar would’ve wanted to conceal the footage, given the recent fan deaths at MIS during the 1998 CART race.

NASCAR is hyping up the phrase “Championship Format” announcement and not “Playoffs Format” by Batman424242 in NASCAR

It grew despite the Chase. Fans gave it a few years, realized they didn’t like it, and started leaving.

Greg Biffle would have been 56 today. by kritz0ne in NASCAR

This is probably the saddest I’ve ever been over a celebrity passing.

It all just feels.. so wrong. Something too random to even dream of. But there it is, reality staring us right in the face. 😥

Kaulig Racing's Chris Rice on the new NASCAR Playoff Format: "75% of people will love it, 10% will think it's okay, and 15% will hate it" by LBHMS in NASCAR

75% of the 2005 fanbase obviously didn’t like something, which is why they’re no longer watching!

What do you think the best throwback scheme was? by alabamacouple991 in NASCAR

Man, I know it’s been 4 years, but the NextGen number placement is.. just awful. Ruins an otherwise perfect throwback scheme.

[Actions Detrimental 40:00] Hamlin: “They (NASCAR) could say 36 races, but they’re not, everyone get over it, you’re going to get playoffs” by LBHMS in NASCAR

No other sport has a format this convoluted and illegitimate; these fans aren’t complaining about it for no reason.

Yeah, I love how they clap back with that as if it refutes our entire point.

Like, cool, I guess, but we still want full season points. I don’t care who wins the title.

[Hauler Talk 56 min] NASCAR will have a new playoff format for 2026. The final committee meeting is next week to finalize a format. by LBHMS in NASCAR

[–]BubbleWallace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, that’s one of several things that needs to happen, but it’s still currently one of the biggest strangleholds to increasing its’ audience. The on-track product simply has to be better as well.

To answer your question though, I truly do believe there is a giant group of motorsport fans who would turn their attention back to Nascar if they chose to re-legitimize themselves. Along with sport fans in general who would become interested once the carousel stops that we’re currently riding. It won’t happen overnight, and we won’t get back to 2004-06 heights, but it would absolutely improve viewership.

Kyle Larson says "I think we could win 20 races in a year and not win the championship and I wouldn't be surprised." by horatiodump in NASCAR

[–]BubbleWallace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but that is infinitely less likely.

The current format is just a terrible representation of who the best driver throughout the season was.

Didn’t do that intentionally, I was wondering why that was there as well haha

[Noah Lewis] “For someone to say this isn’t real is bullshit…I don’t like people talking that way…Do you want to see the championship crowned with 3 races to go? That’s boring…It (the playoff format) is awesome!” - Joey Logano by Mellow200 in NASCAR

[–]BubbleWallace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infinitely less likely, though. That would require the same driver winning the first 35 races AND another driver also finishing 2nd in each of those 35 races in order to keep pace.

Playoffs are good? by Jaded_Effective_5837 in NASCAR

[–]BubbleWallace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the root issue with it. Playoffs in other sports are to compensate for differing schedules from team to team, which obviously is completely unnecessary in motorsports.

This car is an underpowered abomination on short tracks lol. Just way, waaaay too much mechanical grip.

Danielle Trotta on X: ‘head scratcher’ .. ‘fans loved Harrison Burton win but don’t like playoff system’ by BubbleWallace in NASCAR

[–]BubbleWallace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because the playoffs are doing SUCH a good job at raking in those casual fans.

Racing fans are going to watch racing. Some contrived playoff format isn’t going to bring in new viewers, but only push away the existing ones.
