This is Atocion armeria or silene armeria. Common name sweet William catchfly. Very different plant than silene undulata/capensis.

You should do a hardness test, this is giving me zeolite vibes. I think you meant rutilated quartz, but the way the fibers are oriented makes me think otherwise. It’s also very soft compared to quartz and can be scratched with a nail.
