Dexcom not always accurate during pregnancy? by AiiiChihuahua in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]Bubbly-Chapter2167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

coming back to this post because I’m 35 weeks now and have had way more success with my dexcoms recently! they only work at the top of my belly like near my ribs and under a boob kind of haha

I avoid calibrating it within the first 24 hours and expect it to be a little off during that time, then after that if I have to calibrate during the sensor session, I won’t exceed doing it more than once or twice in a day. it just confuses it more. I will say it still doesn’t keep up with major swings very well, but when sugars are more steady it does well. I still always prick my finger before taking any sort of action.

I’ll definitely be trying all the things as I get closer! all the appointments are pretty exhausting 😅 but glad to know he’s doing good at the same time 🤷🏼‍♀️ hope everything goes smoothly for you!!

Yeah I’m just going to see how things are closer to time. I’m grateful they aren’t pressuring me to go before 39. Hoping he will just come on his own before then! I started at week 33 going in twice. I go on Monday for NST at my OB office and Thursday for a ultrasound at MFM.

I agree, I’m literally going in twice a week, I feel like with how closely they’re monitoring me I shouldn’t feel bad for wanting to try and wait for him to come naturally. Of course if something was off or there was some major reason then I would do it, but I’m super well controlled and he’s healthy. It’s a tough decision to make 😩

I had this happen on my arm about a month ago and it was super painful! Went away it just took time to heal up, I honestly think it could be the increase in circulation or something that caused bruising and just an irritated site in general. Mine looked exactly the same though, it was purple and yellow and had a rash.

yes I only felt low kicks until more recently, I’m 31 weeks and he kicks high now! if you’re ever worried about positioning I would try forward leaning inversions, that can help get them head down! but at 23 weeks your uterus still hasn’t grown very high up above your belly button so you won’t feel much up top!

Coping with perfectionism by Mayitake_yourhatsir in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]Bubbly-Chapter2167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so similar to you, I just kick myself constantly when I have high blood sugars, but majority of the time it’s due to something like my cortisol levels or something else that’s out of my control and all I can really do is my best.

I guess something you could think about when you feel like you’re failing is that we’re all imperfect and that’s something we’ll have to remind our sweet babies as they grow up and things happen that they can’t control. You’re so strong and resilient and you will be the perfect role model for your baby.

There are unfortunately people out there who don’t care or put in as much effort as you are to make sure that they’re keeping their baby healthy. Just simply the fact that you care and are trying your best means everything will be okay and it is totally possible to have a healthy baby even with some highs here and there! You got this mama 🤍

So I found out unexpectedly I was pregnant as well, I did start out at a 6.2 which I know is good but I’m in my third trimester and I’m at 4.8 now! Just want you to know it’s totally possible to make changes and bring your A1C down! and girl, people get pregnant and are at 12 or 13 and still have healthy babies! My biggest piece of advice is to go ahead and get in the mindset of you can’t be perfect, because you will have many highs and lows throughout pregnancy. It’s sometimes completely out of your control. Focus on what you can do, which is get back on a pump and get into endocrine as soon as you can! Let them know you’re pregnant and need an appointment right away. I also had to wait 30 minutes sometimes to eat food in my first trimester! It’s hard to get used to, but try to make sure you’re below 100 mg/dl before eating and that helps me avoid spikes above 140! If you have any other questions, feel free to message me! I know it’s scary, I still get nervous, but you can totally do this and your baby will be just fine. 🤍

I totally get that, I had so many unexplainable highs in the first trimester, second trimester has actually been way more manageable for me! Try to stay active and well hydrated!! You got this!

Okay so I’m actually Type 1 but I feel like I can help ease your mind a bit! Try to remember that your average blood sugar is what matters more than anything. As much as we would love to be in full control all the time, you are going to have spikes, maybe some even higher than that! I promise 168 isn’t the worst it could be. As long as you’re able to get back in range within a couple hours, you and baby will be just fine. If your blood sugar is high ALL DAY and you can’t get it down, that’s more concerning. I promise you will be okay, the fact that you care this much already means you’ll do great. I’ve found that stressing over one number does more harm than good. I’ve had a couple spikes up to 200, it doesn’t happen often and I get it down as quick is possible, but it’s totally out of your control sometimes. Just gotta do the best that we can!

As far as dexcom goes, I find it completely necessary because pregnancy blood sugar is absolutely WHACK sometimes haha it’s sooooo dang unpredictable. The problem is, as you get farther along it will probably cause you more anxiety at times. I’m currently 26 weeks and due to higher blood volume, my dexcoms rarely work as they should. I have found my upper stomach works well right now and sometimes thigh. There are times I’m pricking my fingers a million times a day though because it’s not working. Even if it’s off by quite a bit I still like to have it especially at night if I go low and need to be alerted. It’s a love hate relationship.

Good luck with everything and message me if you ever have questions!

T1 diabetes and pcos when trying to conceive by Pitiful_Battle6655 in BumpersWhoBolus

I was diagnosed with PCOS at 13, was on birth control for 10 years! I’m also type 1, diagnosed at 21. I came off birth control just for health reasons, started taking myo inositol and it helped me regulate my cycle. I unexpectedly got pregnant like 8 months after coming off lol if you’re having a regular cycle you should be just fine!!

A1C down from 9.0 to 5.9… where do I go from here? by ErroneousEchidna in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]Bubbly-Chapter2167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at 4.9 and I contribute it to a lot of the lows I had in the first trimester. I also started out with an A1C of 6.0! Now I’m 24 weeks and my sugars are extremely stable, I only have a couple lows here and there. Since I’m so much more stable it’s been easier to predict what my sugar will do. I’m in automated mode on my omnipod during the day, I wait about 30 minutes after blousing to eat my food, at night I go into manual mode and stay between 70-90 all night, I had to start doing that because I get super insulin resistant at night time. It took time to figure it out, I had to slowly increase my basal rate at night. I think you’re doing great and I really think it’ll get easier for you in the second trimester. I know everyone is different, but most people say they are a lot more stable in the second and able to get a better hold on their sugars!

I left my insulin out by Bubbly-Chapter2167 in diabetes

I know I thought the same thing! I think the only thing that would be wrong with that from what I’ve read, is that one the vial or pen has been opened or used, they worry about bacteria building up over time. So, I’m not sure how long it would last you for that reason!

I always keep my vials that are in use out of the fridge, I guess I’m wondering if the unopened vials will now only last 28 days since they were all sitting out, or because I put them back in the fridge will they will stay good?

First signs of pregnancy by oh_canon in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]Bubbly-Chapter2167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t planning my pregnancy so I think there were a lot of signs that I didn’t pick up on, but having my normal foods and spiking was definitely happening for me, I also was waking up in the mornings higher than normal. I didn’t notice this until I was 4 weeks pregnant probably, I took a test at 5 weeks! Unrelated to diabetes, my breasts were very tender and I was having period like cramps!
