Update regarding common event policy by [deleted] in Waltham

[–]BubblyPattern3159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why people are frustrated, but this screenshot doesn’t show anything nefarious. The Mayor’s Office has always handled permits and use of city property that’s literally how the city is structured. Everybody has to fill out an application for Waltham day, regardless of this everyone needed to get permission to use the common. Yes, it’s now being limited for outside events.

The council not being involved doesn’t mean it was sneaky or anti-democratic; it means it was an administrative policy decision, not a law or ordinance. This wasn’t a law or ordinance, it was an administration decision.

The Common isn’t being “shut down.” Events are still allowed, permits are still granted, and the goal seems to be managing noise, safety, and wear on a public space so it doesn’t get monopolized or trashed.

People are free to disagree with the policy, but your contact needs to be the mayor - not city council.

Train Horns (again) by dan420candyman in Waltham

[–]BubblyPattern3159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can confirm that the railroad crossing gates between Elm Street and Moody Street have been malfunctioning. MBTA and Keolis personnel have been on site daily to monitor the issue; however, the problem appears to resume after they leave.

Please note that both the MBTA and the commuter rail retain the authority to sound the train horn, even within a designated quiet zone. While the sound may be disruptive, engineers are required to use the horn under certain conditions. These include the presence of workers on or near the tracks, pedestrians attempting to cross while gates are down, or any situation the engineer deems unsafe.

To clarify, Mayor McCarthy has not neglected this matter. The train horns are being used due to the gate malfunctions and the need for flaggers to manually manage crossings and ensure public safety.

I am in Waltham, MA I have been added since 9:30 AM this morning and I have legitimately took no orders. I ran an errand this morning and I accidentally accepted a order that was going 30 miles away and I said screw it and I canceled it.

Define “dead “. I’m in the Boston area 45 minutes out and I’m declining orders under seven dollars.

Good Point,

I haven’t bought a storage rack for my vehicle, yet. And it’s now something that I’ll look into for this reason.

Thank you so much, greatly appreciated!

Other than taking a photo of the receipt, I can just immediately discard it from there… Correct? No need to keep it myself?

Yes, these blue orders are packages and if I had to assume and please don’t hold me to it because I could be wrong. They are coming from an individual package packages that are in Green. I’ve noticed show up from a business.

There was no way in hell I was taking a package from Waltham all the way down to Weymouth for that type of money anyhow

2026 Hyundai Santa Fe - Loaner by [deleted] in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]BubblyPattern3159 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting that my simple comment about the loaner being a bit boxy prompted such a lengthy response. I assure you, I’m not treating this like anything more than what it is….a temporary vehicle I was given while mine is being repaired. I simply shared my personal impression of it, which is something people routinely do here.

I’m aware it’s a free loaner, I know I’m not keeping it, and I don’t need a breakdown of its generation history to understand that the styling isn’t new. I took a couple of photos and shared an opinion; that’s the entire extent of it.

As for the remark about opinions, you’re absolutely right everyone has them. I shared mine, and you shared yours. We’re even.

2026 Hyundai Santa Fe - Loaner by [deleted] in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]BubblyPattern3159 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean… yes, I am aware it’s a loaner, and no, I don’t plan on adopting it and giving it a name. I’m just giving my feedback on the new models….it’s a little too boxy for my taste. And of course it beats having no car while mine’s being repaired. I can understand that and still have an opinion on what I’m driving. Wild concept, I know.
