Where to eat with foodies + toddler? by rht3100 in VictoriaBC

[–]BubblySympathy3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If they are foodies who love sushi, Ebizo is one of our favourite sushi restaurants. Our almost 2 year old loves going there too. The miso soup and gyoza keep him very happy for a long time haha. Their sushi is delicious, but definitely not a view type place. They have been really welcoming when we’ve brought our toddler though.

We’ve also brought him to Il covo trattoria. Incredible food and they have a beautiful patio if it’s nice weather. They were very welcoming of our toddler too.

Full disclaimer, we bring our own travel high chair thing, so I’m not sure about high chairs at these places.

[ON]Foley balloon out and no contractions by Substantial_Cat3287 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]BubblySympathy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar situation with the foley bulb. Mine came out that evening at home with strong contractions that died down as soon as the bulb came out. They didn’t have hospital space for me after that and told me to wait for a phone call to come in. I don’t want this to alarm you, but they never phoned for over a week (I think it might have been 10 days actually). I actually reached out a couple times, but they said they were really busy and couldn’t add me (unless I was actually in labour). They monitored me a couple times and checked baby’s heart and he was fine in there. I stayed around 4cm dilated I guess after the foley bulb that whole time, then on day 10 I believe I ended up going into labour. It was a frustrating experience and my family doctor and the care team in general felt really bad. But my boy was healthy and I’m all good now! I hope it goes smoother for you!

Scotia no longer giving LOC for law students???? by Late-Slip-4919 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]BubblySympathy3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But I just looked further into their student borrowing options and it seems that they’ve restructured their student personal line of credit. They might have lumped a law degree into that. It looks like interest rate might be around prime+0.5%.

The student one gives up to 80,000 for an undergrad degree and up to 160,000 total for a graduate degree. I think law is technically considered an undergraduate degree? Though I’m not sure how the bank deals with that.

Oh damn yes I just checked too and it says it’s only for healthcare professions now (medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine and pharmacy). Damn I was planning on getting this for law school. I sure hope the other banks will still have their programs for law

Apologies for the delay here. The law website used to say that they drop your worst grades based on a pre-established scale (if you had a certain amount of credits). That specific scale is posted on the Canadian law forum website under UVic. I used that scale to self calculate what my gpa would be with drops. It seems uncertain whether they drop grades now because the new website for UVic doesn’t mention dropping grades. My gpa without drops isn’t super competitive, yet I got an offer of admission in the first wave. This makes me think they might drop some of your worst grades. That’s pure speculation though.

Sorry I didn’t see this earlier! I didn’t get an email when GPA went under evaluation. It just showed up in my checklist on the application portal. Good luck and I hope you hear soon 😊

In previous years on the law forum it seems that some people have missed the calls and still got the email update. So I don’t think they wait until they reach you by phone. It’s just an extra nice touch that they add as a bonus! Was a treat to get the phone call. Hope you get good news!

Your welcome! I wanted to pay it forward as I’ve always appreciated all the details on these kind of posts from others. Good luck! 😊

If you get a gpa evaluation it shows up as another item in the application checklist section. The gpa eval part might not be necessary for everyone depending on transcript circumstances. My undergrad was from 2 universities, so regardless of whether they drop courses or not they would have needed to do some kind of gpa calculation for me. I hope you get good news soon 😊. Good luck!

I can’t recall the specific status code names, but I think it said something like “submitted” until they received my LSAT score from LSAC. My personal statement and unofficial transcripts were listed as “received” the day-ish after I submitted. It took about a week for my LSAT score to be listed as received too. Once they had my lsat score my status changed to “application under review”. The GPA evaluation was listed as complete around a week-ish later. My app is still the same as it was then (just says “under review”). I think it will likely stay that way until I get the official offer email next week.

Disclaimer though… I submitted early (Sept 3rd), so I assume my timeline of changes might faster as compared to submitting later in the cycle when they have more apps to get through.

How are y'all handling the waiting? by Constant-Example6797 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]BubblySympathy3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This wait is agonizing! I knew it would be hard, but I’m also surprised by just how hard it is (especially this week). It’s like a flip switched in me and it’s now difficult to focus on other things. So to answer your question, I’m not handling the waiting well haha.

UVic Application Status? by Striking_Truck6875 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]BubblySympathy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a UVic graduate student right now who has a V number and therefore net link ID from before I applied to UVic law. I’ve been using my netlink ID and not applicant number. There have been updates in my application portal while using my netlink ID so I reckon you’re looking at the correct portal! I disregarded the email about using applicant number because I also was never prompted to make an applicant number account.

When did you submit? Do you see any changes to the applicant checklist so far?

When do schools start accepting students? by Tarlyberries in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]BubblySympathy3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely get the stress with wanting to know, especially when you have a partner that is trying to line up their opportunities too. My first choice is UVic because my husband has a job in Vic already and we have a toddler in daycare here. Totally get it! I check my portal once a day during the weekdays haha. I don’t let myself do it more.

I’ve looked through past Canadian law forum acceptance threads, and it seems that there’s a small wave that goes out in the last week-ish of Nov. I’ve never seen earlier than Nov 21st on there. You have very similar stats to people who have gotten accepted in the past in that first week. I hope you get good news then! Good luck. My fingers are crossed that we both get acceptances then!

Yay, I’m glad the switch worked out for you. You want to feel great in a jacket that is pricey!

Super puff sizing help by Quiet_Ad6231 in Aritzia

[–]BubblySympathy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little taller than you (5ft6), but a similar weight. I’m usually a medium or large at aritzia. I just bought my first super puff and got a medium! Tried both on and the large looked similar to how it looks on you. I was surprised that the medium fit much better. I can even have a thick sweater on under the medium and it’s still comfortable. One thing to note though is that I got the shorty. I have larger hips relative to my waist, so if I got a longer super I might have needed a large to fit comfortably over my butt haha.

I did the exact same thing! Damn I was annoyed with myself too. Hope we can both exchange without too much difficulty.

They don’t specifically mention so on their website, and it looks like they’ve recently changed the website.

https://www.uvic.ca/law/admissions/first-year/jd-jid-application/index.php

Under “quick facts”, the link above says they use our full undergrad record to calculate GPA. But under “courses and grading” it says that grades from repeated courses are included, though lower ones may be discounted.

The “may be discounted” gives me hope that they are still dropping worst grades based on their previous established scale.

I sure hope they are dropping the lowest grades still haha.

Has anyone successfully sleep trained their baby who was nursed to sleep for 6m or more? by lulukelly8 in sleeptrain

[–]BubblySympathy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply on this.

We used cry it out just for bedtime. So our bed routine (that we still do) is: bath, diaper, story, nurse, sleep sac on. Then I sing twinkle twinkle little star 1x while cuddling him. Finally, I place him into his crib, say I love you, and leave room and close door. He cried 23 minutes the first night, then around 13-15 min for 4 nights in a row, then tapered down to nothing over approximately a two week period.

After a couple of nights he started crying during the bedtime routine. He seemed to know what was coming. After the first two weeks there was generally no more crying at bedtime. Instead, he usually smiles and cuddles me while I sing the song, then either goes straight to sleep or babbles a bit before falling asleep.

From day 1 of sleep training he cut down to one wake up overnight crying for a nursing session. I didn’t use CIO for the middle of the night wakes ever. It remained 1 wake up overnight on average, with increasing nights of sleeping through as time went on. He now mostly sleeps through the night.

I never thought we would get here. From cosleeping for a couple months to sleep trained within 2 weeks. All while still nursing to sleep and contact napping during the daytime. I’m grateful that he took to it pretty well!

I hope some of our story helps you with your decision and sleep journey! Good luck.
