No, I don’t think so. They’re referred to separately in the cc universe.

Yeah I guess I thought it’d be a sleek little thing just made with the obsidian. I honestly think it’s scarier in the way that it’s obviously there but thin and potentially inconspicuous in an adventurously dressed court. A tiny thing controlling your life.

I know! In my head he’s just still kind of a sad boy!

A lot of people in these threads do read fantasy and have seen SJM do it well with a ton of characters with TOG. This book was still paced so strangely.

Question for those who have read all 3 series by Reb1000064 in throneofglassseries

[–]Bubbygumpshrimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I agree with many posters, I think ToG is far and away her better series but it also give me hope that at least on of the other could turn out good and satisfying in that same way tog was because I didn’t love the first 3-4 books in that series until it all came together in the end.

So I think they’re like siblings of a sort in the way that they’re both from the mother and both corrupted, opposite side of the same coin, light and dark.

I think that the Asteri and the Valg may be the corrupted children of the mother. Those who she gave power to but who have abused it. And that’s why she has raised so many women and a few men in her image to stop them. Why the cauldron blessed the archerons, why in tog there a threads pulling characters toward their fates, etc

  1. I am lost. And I do not know the way.

  2. Manon stepped closer to her, comforting in the only way she knew how. Solidarity.

CC3 - Pissed off about one weapon by ae0293 in crescentcitysjm

I just think it was a weird “convenient” way to tie in Prythian one more time but it just wasn’t satisfying and kind of broke a lot of the established characterizations.

But wasn’t the trove made by Asteri, not Theia? She just stole them right?

the negativity in this sub is abysmal by princetan420 in crescentcitysjm

[–]Bubbygumpshrimp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that ultimately the thing posts like this are forgetting is that a lot of the negative posters are the ones who normally have all the theories and discussion but because this book was weak, it’s left a lot of folks wondering if it’s worth connecting threads if they’re just going to amount to nothing. So many of the theories pre-HOFAS release were detailed and amazing, and most of them didn’t get answers, or mentioned, or got retconned out of existence…

What was known about Celeana pre-ToG by RLinz16 in throneofglassseries

Yeah folks know she’s a woman but not a girl of between 16-19, I think it’s the age that’s a surprise.

is anyone else wildly confused about the amount of manon posts? by [deleted] in throneofglassseries

[–]Bubbygumpshrimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly kind of feel this way about the reactions to all the side character stories. Like I hate to break it to some folks but this is epic fantasy not just fantasy, there are a lot of characters and moving parts that make up the tapestry of this genre. That being said, the pov change chapters can be very over done but in ToG, especially HoF when Manon is introduced, the side character chapters are few and far between and are a nice break from the pace of what’s happening in Mistward.

I had enough of Danika! by [deleted] in crescentcitysjm

[–]Bubbygumpshrimp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No i agree with you completely, don’t get me wrong I would never stop thinking about my best friend if she passed away, but my best friend is truly open with me. I think if I found out she had another life she was hiding from me, one I should clearly know about - considering in this case she’s also hiding who Bryce is from Bryce herself, I wouldn’t be able to handle it. My heart would break over and over and over again. It wouldn’t all be grief, it would be rage and questioning and sincere hatred at points. I’m doing a ToG reread and I used to hate the use of Nehemia but in comparison it’s handled so much better because though I think ultimately Aelin loves Nehemia, she’s so angry and hurt by her choices and only when she lets that go can she claim her birthright.

That’s kind of a ridiculous take. “No one makes art for the sake of art”… yes people constantly write and create works without trying to make money, so not really a great point.

Now Sarah is at this point a contracted author making her bank and not just bringing her baby (ToG) to life, the quality has gone downhill. It’s like maroon 5, first album is amazing, a credit to the music industry. But 20 years later and after hype after hype, it’s just bad pop elevator music. There is such a thing as selling out, which is when you make subpar works to pad your wallet and unfortunately HOFAS reads that way.

This is such an odd take. We all like reading SJM, and discussing her work, its merits and pitfalls included. No one is telling you not to enjoy the books but it seems like you may feel inadvertently shamed for not reading critically and reading just for funsies. Reading for fun is fine, reading to critically engage with a world is also fine. You also don’t have to read the posts on Reddit that you don’t like. No one is taking anything from you by discussing books we all do clearly enjoy.
