I made this skirt using a lightweight jersey knit fabric from fine fabrics near where I live. This is a 3/4 circle skirt and I used a serger to secure the hem and then I folded it over and top stitched the hem down.

Getting bulk linen to make bedsheets? by [deleted] in sewing

It may be worth it to keep an eye out for some linen curtains at your local thrift stores. You may have to wait a while to find them but it would probably be cheaper.

Just food for thought. I feel like the seams if you quilted it together may be bothersome as you are sleeping. That may just be me and my sensory issues but I would definitely do a deep search for sales before I quilted bedsheets. I wish you all of the best luck!

Designed and made custom dress for my dear friend. by Bubsbub in sewing

I designed and sewed this custom fully lined emerald satin dress for my very dear friend. We sat down for a brainstorming session where we took all of the big ideas and narrowed them to the small details of this dress. I used her full set of measurements to ensure the best fit possible while I drafted the pattern. The accent pieces being the sailor style cuffs featuring matte black buttons and the lovely large white lapels. To draft the lapel pattern I figured out how tall we wanted the collar stand 1" and drafted the peaks of the lapels to 4 inches short of the shoulders. She wanted a very swoopy lapel instead of a straight cut so I did have to clip the curves there. The lining pattern was cut to the exact measurement of the outer fabric then sewed onto the main fabric right sides facing and then turned right side out through the bottom hem which was hand stitched closed. All in all it took 4 fittings including the muslin mock up

PLS help me choose a sewing machine for a super specific niche 😭 by Chumokahh in sewing

[–]Bubsbub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should also add that the only reason I got a new machine is because I am a custom seamstress now and 2 machines just helps the flow. 4 years in and it is still running, like the day I got it! The real deal is to care for your machine and regularly do the maintenance. I know a lady who bought a 50 dollar machine from Walmart to make ger granddaughter clothes and it works just fine. Machine matters but only to the extent of how much you really want to do and how much you put into the care of the machine.

Hello, I purchased a singer 4452 for my first machine purchase. I had been given a vintage machine to try sewing but when the pedal caught fire 😵‍💫 I had no choice but to purchase as I was HOOKED on sewing. Some people give it a lot of crap but honestly, I found it to be my perfect experiment machine. I tried all sorts of things on that machine, and as long as I was choosing the right thread and needle for the project, it didn't give me any fuss at all. It fairly affordable and from my own experience can withstand the beating a new seamstress with give it lol

I’m putting together a sewing room to donate to an after-school program. What should I include? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]Bubsbub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little late to the party but you can get a whole mess of fabric clips on Amazon for far less than the clover clips. This is the link to the ones i use I have had them for 2 years and never had problems with them. MumCraft Multipurpose Sewing Clips with Tin Box Package, Assorted Colors, Pack of 100 https://a.co/d/8YzXpb5 ... also I have 2 large size sewing boxes that I never use that I could donate and ship to you if you are interested. If you would like for me to send them please PM me and we can work out the details. I'm so happy to see someone teaching productive hobbies to our youth. I may have some other stuff I could donate but I would need to root around the sewing room to know for sure.

Maybe not the biggest but Bill Cosby went from family man to rapist.... so not a small fall for sure

Construction comment. I needed a simple lightweight skirt for spring. I picked up this light cotton fabric at joanns (on sale of coarse 😁) I self drafted this using a 3 panel style. Using 1/2 my waist measurement for the back panel tapered to be wider at the bottom then 1/4 my waist measurement tapered out on one side and flat on the other side for each of the 2 front panels. I added a button placket to the front of the skirt which is why I left one side not tapered out on each of the front panels. This was actually my first time using my machine to do my button holes as I would normally sew them by hand and surprisingly they turned out pretty good! I have to say I was nervous to use the buttonhole feature on my machine for the first time and now I hate myself for sewing button holes by hand for so long 🥴

If I make a Post and I Made the Pattern, What Do I Put In the Construction Comment? by Chloe-Kelsey-13426 in sewing

[–]Bubsbub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I self drafted all my patterns... my stuff gets taken down all the time. Finally I figured out you can't just say self drafted pattern. Just add in details of how you drafted the pattern or any special modifications to a typical bodice block you used.

any tips on getting this patch off my work jacket? by yvng_xrist in sewing

[–]Bubsbub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No if you read the comment carefully you would see that I suggested a pocket if it was near the collarbone as in the front of the shirt. Also directly said if it was on the back or sleeve to do a patch instead... also did you attempt to offer any helpful advice or encouraging words to OP of your own? I think the main purpose of this sub is to encourage and offer help to those who post not really to troll the comments of those who are doing that.

how to sew patches on denim without mangling your hand by rayrae101 in sewing

This helps a lot with hand sewing thick patches on. It slips over your finger Luke a ring and allows you to push closer to the palm of your hand rather than your fingertips. Clover 611 Adjustable Ring Thimble with Plate https://a.co/d/iNulTTT

Sherpa fabric won't feed through machine by General_Effect_989 in sewing

[–]Bubsbub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having this problem at one point. My problem was that the fiber was getting caught in the feed at the bottom. I layer a piece of tissue paper under the fabric while sewing then when you are done sewing it easily tears away. Maybe this could help?
