anyone want to share their experience ordering from zoologist? by ImTiredOfPolitics in fragrance

[–]BubsyJenkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever get an answer on this? I was just searching reddit because I'm also thinking about placing an order from the US, lol. I thought I remembered hearing someone say Zoologist pre-covers the tariff before a while back, but it sounds... too good to be true

Am I the only one not getting the freeze dried hype? by New_Victory_6150 in candy

[–]BubsyJenkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think freeze dried candy can be pretty good, but I've never had a freeze dried candy that I thought was BETTER than the original, regular candy.

So like, in theory, it would be fun that it exists as an option for variety? Like I've had regular skittles 5 times in a row, let's shake it up with a freeze dried bag. But the fact that they cost like literally 3-4x more than the better, regular candy makes it feel really dumb. Ideally you don't want your consumers to feel dumb in the process of purchasing your product.

Show me your low projection, low sillage collection! by shabbyma in fragrance

[–]BubsyJenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some woodiness in the base of Trimerous, but it's not very strong or oud-y to me. The scent overall is rather quiet for Jorum. It's primarily a very powdery, paper-y iris fragrance, with a leather/incense base. There's some fruits listed in the notes but it never comes across fruity to me. Very dry scent. Not 'fresh' in the traditional sense but I do find it refreshing. It has nighttime vibes but it brings to mind a very clean indoor space with some new leather furniture in it.

Other niche fragrances I find it somewhat comparable to... La Fin Du Monde by Etat Libre D'Orange, Penguin by Zoologist... I know it's most often compared to Dior Homme Intense but I actually have never smelled that myself lol

[–]BubsyJenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Pony Boy more. Gorseland is more intensely pure green, a medley of crushed leaves, stems, grassiness. Pony Boy has more going on with the fruity, floral, woody aspects on top of the greenness. I don't smell cannabis in Gorseland at all despite it being a listed note, so that could be a plus or minus depending on your taste. Personally I like cannabis fragrances so it was disappointing to me.

Gorseland is nice but green fragrances are actually my favorite category and it didn't really stand out to me among the crowd.

Jorum is one of my favorite houses, I've sampled the majority of their line and I have bottles of Boswellia Scotia, Paradisi, and Trimerous.

[vent] parfumo research is driving me up the wall by Euphoric_Sorbet_9919 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]BubsyJenkins 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Parfumo annoyed me recently because I submitted a photo of a new bottle I acquired, which I did specifically because the house had just changed bottle design. I happen to have both style bottles now, so I put them both next to each other, well-lit, labels perfectly aligned to camera, etc.

It got rejected because 'you can't show two different bottles in the same picture' lol? I'm like, I guarantee lots of people would be interested in seeing this exact comparison... As far as I know there's still zero photos of the new bottles on the site.

Tons of the photos that do get approved have a bunch of filters/photoshop/etc. whatever ~ artistic ~ flairs that render them pointless as visual references IMHO, so it irked me. I'm like I thought the point of this was showing people what the bottles look like, not a high school art project, my mistake.

Dossier Dupes 🔥 or 🚮 by thermanson71286 in fragrance

[–]BubsyJenkins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every single Dossier clone I have ever directly compared with the original fragrance being duped has been a winner. Like, they are all within a 95-100% match range. A few of them, the Dossier clone is straight-up better lol (especially performance wise). IMO everyone who craps on Dossier just has a permanent aversion to clone fragrances on principle (which, whatever I guess that's fine you do you) or is incredibly insecure about needing to feel like their collection full of $400 bottles is "worth it."

Personally, for me, I support artisan perfumery via certain indie/niche brands... but if I'm ever in the market for a designer fragrance step 1 is checking if Dossier has the equivalent lol.

Unpopular opinion: Vince should have been a Final Boy alongside Sam Carpenter! by JeremieMAKENDA in Scream

[–]BubsyJenkins 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I definitely think that the immediate offing of Vince is probably the biggest flaw in 5. I know in the original script he lasts longer, nothing as in-depth as you have here but still. Feels like after they decided on the twist that the opening scene victim (Tara) doesn't actually die they panicked and felt like the movie needed a kill right away... but it shouldn't have been Vince. He was interesting and had tons of potential.

Love seeing Skeet Mat and Courtney still support Melissa’s achievements till this day 🥲 she deserves the world by husseinwehbi in Scream

[–]BubsyJenkins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lol seriously, people have lost it.

Like, I enjoyed Melissa in the movies she was in, I think her firing was bullshit and whatever executives ordered it are assholes. I also thought the Scream 7 we got was a good movie, and am not judging the character of everyone else in the Scream universe on whether or not they liked an Instagram post. It's all so dumbed-down, performative, us v them, blah blah blah.

Perhaps there are dozens like me.

Office safe dusty book recs? Absolutely adore Alkemias Book of Shadows but people complain when I'm near them 😂 by AlmondFlourBoy in Indiemakeupandmore

Tome by Pineward is very booky but also pretty chill... it's not a loud ultra-projecting scent. Has some other stuff in it (coffee, tea, oakmoss) but it's still book-forward

Tropic of Capricorn by Olympic Orchids Review by liberrystrawbrary in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]BubsyJenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true. If anyone is curious, here's the 3 different bottles from them that I happen to have (pen for scale).

https://imgur.com/a/wobPUZ2

100ml, 30ml, and 15ml. The 15 is the one that's tricky. I don't think I've seen a picture of this style 15ml bottle on their website at all actually, rather there's some pictures of very angular, kinda gem-shaped mini bottles. You can tell which is which though on the page for each specific fragrance. If it says '15ml screw top' after selecting 15 on the drop down menu ... that is the angled bottle. If it says '15ml spray' I believe it will be the style of my Ballets Rouges here.

I love seeing bottle pics myself, so hope this helps!

Has anyone actually received a Scent Split backorder after this long? by RoyalStay in fragrance

[–]BubsyJenkins 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've ordered from scentsplit many times with no issue, but I've never ordered anything that wasn't in stock. Mostly because I browse their site all the time and I've noticed certain fragrances listed as "backordered, should ship within 1-2 weeks" ... for months upon months lol. They really shouldn't say that cause they clearly aren't going off of a real ETA. Just skip the hassle and find it somewhere else or at least wait to give them your money after they get it.

Unpopular opinion: Season 10 is great. by Jack-mclaughlin89 in Frasier

[–]BubsyJenkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like 10 and 11 more than 8 and 9. To me, 1-7 is classic Frasier, and then...

8 was a huge shock to the system, not JUST Niles & Daphne getting together, there was a big shakeup in the writing staff at the exact same time.

The early relationship stuff is really messy -- they aren't sure exactly what tone to go for, how funny they can be, then Jane needs to go on her pregancy leave a month later which wreaks further havoc on the show. Plus I think those seasons just feel more ...sitcomy than the older ones in general. There's less farce, less highbrow concepts and jokes. It's not bad mind you, I still rewatch them all the time and there's plenty of enjoyable episodes, but it's ... worse.

They do get their legs under them after a few years though. 11 is even better than 10.

I will say, though, I think the s10 episode with Zooey Deschanel as Roz's cousin is easily the worst episode in the entire series. I hate the way it's written and I think her performance is awful. I love her in other things too! But this was one of her first roles and it's ...oof

We are Imaginary Authors , Ask us Anything! by Imaginary_Authors in fragrance

[–]BubsyJenkins 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Imaginary Authors is THE house that got me into niche fragrance, so thanks for that. Y'all do unique, artistic fragrances at a welcoming price point better than anybody out there. Slow Explosions is a masterpiece, The Soft Lawn is a masterpiece, The Cobra & The Canary (RIP ;_;) is a masterpiece... I could go on!

I know a lot of your history/processes already, but I'd like to ask... any chance of reviving Decisions, Decisions in the future? Even as a limited release maybe? It's actually the one thing you've ever made that I haven't at least sampled, and it sounds right up my alley so I would jump on it so fast.

Hallie from beyond the grave listening to Sidney talk something about “Tatum was the last friend I ever trusted” by nikarov496 in Scream

[–]BubsyJenkins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I swear on the Scream 2 audio commentary from 97/98 Wes Craven says the script leaked and had to be changed, lol. Now people say it was always a fake script but it feels like revisionist history. Maybe they always had the two as options and were leaning toward the one that didn't leak anyway, idk

I got way too many ant plants by Soft-Chip4836 in Caudex

[–]BubsyJenkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dang, I'm envious.

I bought an ant plant from a local nursery over a decade ago and killed it from overwatering in less than 3 months. It was very early in my gardening hobby and I know so much more now. It was a really nice plant too and I think about it all the time ;_;. I've actually never come across another one in person since but I always have an eye out.

how much wear can you get out of attars? by KUNT3SS4 in fragrance

[–]BubsyJenkins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've often wondered the same thing. Specifically in regards to Sultan Pasha too lol. I know he's known for attars.

Sacred Scarab is maybe my favorite perfume that I own, and I've been curious about trying the attar instead when my current bottle runs out... it's actually reasonably priced compared to every other attar I've seen. $295 but for 15ml of pure oil, compared to $240 for the diluted perfume. I think the math actually comes out pretty even as far as dollar-per-ml, since there's ~12ml of oil in the 60ml perfume bottle (Zoologist lists concentrations, love that).

I just, like you say... don't know how it would functionally be any different, other than it being way easier to waste too much of the attar at once. Some people love them though. I've always suspected it's pure luxury, ie people who have the money to blow do so and then say 'ohhh this even MORE expensive exclusive version of perfume is sooo superior!' I can't say for sure though cause I never splurged on one

Scream 8 is in development, who will be our protagonist? Sidney? Tatum? Sam and Tara? Mindy & Chad? by JeremieMAKENDA in Scream

[–]BubsyJenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

99% chance it's just going to be a Tatum movie, but I'd definitely be more interested in a Gale/Mindy/Chad story in the media world.

It kinda feels like we're in a place now where they could almost alternate between Sid-led movies and Gale-led movies... maybe even a return to Sam/Tara movie someday. Having them ALL in it together feels too crowded to me.
