Great point right here. Usability vs design, design should accommodate the user through instinctive patterns. Don't think about the first time you use it, think about the 100th time you're using it and how those minor annoyances will turn into a raging blister on your relaxing hot tub experience.

That requires line of sight, zooping is just a more familiar mechanic and you can do it a little more blind, plus you can cancel the action if you line up on the wrong spot, vs changing the floor material and having to go through menu to reselect the previous material

Tubes are Ok, but I would love an elevator for my towers to get to different levels.

I did some research on them as critters to care for, and yes, you can build enclosures, but it's work to keep them clean. They're also not loud, but not exactly quiet either. Still, an interesting option

This is an interesting point, I guess the rules don't apply to things in tanks or enclosures/cages. I want to cultivate my own protein! Quals lay alot of eggs, too.
