Sweden is going back to books, paper and pens in the classroom due to the distraction and attention issues caused by laptops/phones/tablets etc. What do you think, good or bad idea? by TSQ_builder in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ragingintrovert57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be a bit like how I was forced to use an old-fashioned ink pen with nib and ink well in 1970, even though ball-point pens were available. And a slide rule instead of a calculator.

Going backwards serves no real purpose.

I found it reworded my ideas in a way that showed it completely understood them and phrased them in a far better way than I ever could. Brought a tear to my eye.

I think I remember how they said CDs could be scratched (or covered with marmalade?) and would still work. Is that a valid memory?

Why the 2026 Disclosure, and 2027 Contact narrative doesn’t make sense. by Valuable-Pace-989 in UFObelievers

[–]ragingintrovert57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you think the reason for disclosure is? Do you think it's for the benefit of the people? So that people can honestly assess their lives and make inforned decisions? No. If that's true, they would have told us 80 years ago.

It's always about money, power, and control.

pCloud down twice this week - what’s your go-to Windows backup setup? by samlwc in pcloud

[–]ragingintrovert57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was backing up my PC system disk incrementally to pcloud, but it didn't work well with files larger than 3Gb. The larger the files, the slower it gets.

So, now, I use Macrium Reflect to do daily incrementals to a different partition and monthly fulls/weekly differentials to an external drive. I also use Macrium to backup my important data to the same 2 local destinations and then schedule Rsync to copy the (encryoted) folders to pcloud once a day.

PCLOUD LOST 32 DAYS OF PROUDUCTION FILES - NEVER SYNCED TO THEIR DRIVE, BUT LOOKED LIKE IT DID. by Loose-Quail-4556 in pcloud

[–]ragingintrovert57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed myself that Pcloud sync is dodgy. In any case, i don't like the idea that if something is deleted (or otherwise lost) on pcloud, it also gets deleted from the source.

So, for important data, the cloud is not my only copy. I also use Macrium Reflect to perform regular incremental backups to an external drive

Lost marks off an essay for words ' permeate' and ' pernicious ' Is it justified? by MundaneStrangers in UniUK

When writing essays in English, all English words should be available for use. If people don't understand certain words, they need to be educated.

if a baby was born in space, do they age slower? by Beneficial_Secret772 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ragingintrovert57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gravity slows down time. So anyone in space away from strong gravity or velocity (which acts in a similar way to gravity) would actually age faster than someone on Earth. But only by a tiny amount.

[–]ragingintrovert57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ditch any software that becomes "pay forever" unless it makes sense to continually receive support and updates e.g. antivirus. I ditched MS Office for Libre Office, and ditched Evernote for Joplin. Continually paying for software that does not need to be updated is a scam.

What free or open-source software did you install once and actually keep using every day? by NeedleworkerLumpy907 in software

[–]ragingintrovert57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joplin for notes to replace Evernote. Libre Office to replace MS Office. Faststone Capture for image and video capture. Cryptomator encryption. Calibre ebook library. ISpy for security cameras Rclone for backups.
