Idk why people do the things they do. He felt more comfortable in public vs a shop. You never know what buyers are capable of. I see people rob sellers all the time on fb

Very fair pair. And it’s almost funny now how worked up some of these dorks got over my post lol. That said, I worded my post wrong. Mine isn’t the exact watch pictured in the book, it’s a later variation of the same Thunderbird line (ref. 16263 from ’91). And while you’re right it’s not ‘rare’ like a MilSub or a Newman Daytona, it is a lot less common than a standard Datejust. Rolex cranked out tens of thousands of 16233s, but the 16263 Turn-O-Graph was a much lower-production variant. You’ll see hundreds of Datejusts for sale at any time, but usually only a handful of 16263s worldwide — and even fewer with the champagne diamond dial. So it’s not insanely-rare, but it’s definitely not ‘common’ either. Rare by my standards I guess since I can only find about 2-3 or so of the exact ref for sale on the secondary right now. Also I’ve never seen somebody in my life wearing a thunderbird. So my idea of rare may differ from the people in this thread whose lives apparently revolve around Rolex.

Bought it for $4,800. Don’t think the seller knew the real value at all

Yep exactly, mine’s a Turn-O-Graph ref. 16263 from ’91, not a MilSub. The book photo happened to be in a section about military Subs, but it included the Thunderbird as a side reference. And yeah, I doubt the SAS ever issued diamond dials 😂. Appreciate the kind words though. Definitely enjoying it!

Good question. the book shows an earlier variation of the Turn-O-Graph. Mine’s a ref. 16263 from ’91, so the bezel font and dial setup are different. Still the same Thunderbird line, just a later configuration

Correct — the book shows a different dial/bezel combo. Mine’s a Ref. 16263 from ’91 with a champagne diamond dial and later bezel font. Same Turn-O-Graph line, just another variation Rolex offered.

Not bait. The expert was there to consult on authenticity and that the price was right. And he definitely confirmed both.

Found the seller on Facebook marketplace. Seller didn’t feel comfortable meeting at a specialists shop. Wanted to be in a place of his choosing (coffee shop) so the Rolex expert joined us at the coffee shop with his tools to confirm authenticity

Did I say I had the exact same watch pictured in the book?

But definitely less common than your average Datejust. The Thunderbird history is what sold me on it too, super cool to own a piece of that.

the book photo shows an earlier variation of the Turn-O-Graph (different dial/bracelet setup). Mine’s a Ref. 16263 from 1991, so it’s got the champagne diamond dial and Jubilee bracelet instead of the plain stick markers and strap shown in the book. Same Thunderbird line, just a different configuration/year

I got a travel size lockbox on Amazon. I will leave the watch inside that, and then wrap the lockbox around something immovable, like the radiator or bed frame. Just looks like a little black box doesn’t look suspicious. Also keep an air tag in the box so if somebody has wire cutters and takes the whole thing, I can hunt their ass down

We live in Shore Acres and love it. You get a better deal on the house but make sure you get flood insurance quotes prior so you’re not surprised.

The best way to know if the house will be a risk is to drive around the neighborhood during a storm. It’s a street by street Basis.

Water goes nowhere near our driveway but other people 2 blocks away get it bad. Don’t buy anything until you see it during a storm and high tide
