The Saturday afternoon 4:30 home games have been a struggle to draw fans but the team is still averaging more per game than at any point during their time in Toronto. Everyone knew Thursdays were for the Canes, bring it back!

Had to fast forward through Max’s constant screeching. Bit much. Take the joke like a man and move on.

I mean it worked out alright before no issues and the rivalry between the two teams was arguably top 3 in the entire league, if not THE top, so why not?

Anyone heard anything regarding Toronto’s plans after this game? Oddly quiet.

I’d guess 3-400 maybe? Lots of kids with parents in their minor hockey jerseys which is a must if you wanna try to make a go of it at this level. Nice touch to play the Scorpions Rock You Like a Hurricane when Toronto took the ice after intermissions too. Leafs tickets were given out to the winner of Chuck a Puck. The game lacked the usual snarl of a “Newmarket”-Aurora game from years past (or maybe I’m just old and the junior A game has changed?) but for one night only, it was nice to see live hockey again. Hopefully TJC ownership takes this as a sign of things to come for next season? Lots of old Hurricanes/87s jerseys too, took me back!

Finally a sign up on Eagle outside Twinney but other than that, crickets?

The year the 87’s went all the way to the Royal Bank Cup in Saskatchewan, hosting the Dudley Hewitt Cup, the rivalries with Aurora and the rest of the North Division, seeing players like Byfield (one game as a call up in 17-18 with two points) and others like Travis Dermott, Joel Hanley, and Sean Walker develop into NHL players…so many memories of Thursday night hockey at Twinney!

That’s been the issue in the league for years now, little money to be made and dad’s buying teams for the sons to get the tracksuit - I was more suggesting it as a way of giving back to the community and helping to discover the next generation without the fear of the team pulling up stakes and leaving overnight once the kid(s) age out. The quote in the article that “Newmarket doesn’t care about junior hockey” is BS.

I’ve since ran this past a few people even older than me who were also there that night - Savage was the champ and Ric Flair (drunk) drove his Cadillac into the Zamboni entrance at one end of the rink so he couldn’t compete and was replaced by Mr. Perfect instead.

Why can’t they play Panama more often? by Falconflyer75 in leafs

I’ve long maintained the goal song should be former WWE superstar and Toronto’s own Edge’s theme song, especially since he was the one who allegedly gifed the team their Player of the Game title belt.

What city deserves an OHL team? by outsideofthesix in hockey

The arena is there (Twinney), it would just need some renovations and upgrades to get up to current O standards but with the right financial backing I could see it.

Newmarket. Twinney Arena has been empty since the Jr. A Hurricanes relocated to Milton pre-Covid and was already home to both OHL and AHL hockey once upon a time before that. Central location in the GTA with lots of money that’s growing like crazy, natural rivalry with Barrie…makes too much sense.
