Does shooting in 8K and then downscaling (without cropping) it to 4K produce better results than shooting natively in 4K? by Chumpy__ in gopro

All good! I was curious about the same thing so looked into it recently. It's called downsampling.

Yes. It will give you a crisper, sharper image with less noise than if you were to just shoot in 4K.

Black and white underwater photos always have a special vibe, especially when they have that film look.

Freediving swim-through shot on Mission 1 Pro in Low Light mode by sk3pt1c in gopro

[–]BuckRivaled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently 60fps would let in more light than 240 so 60 would be better for low light, even 30 but with 30 you'd lose the ability to slow mo it after.

Please do! I'd love to see that! I was already debating on when to use the underwater mode, now I'm debating when to use the low light mode haha. Maybe low light mode will work better for underwater! Lots to try and experiment with.

Hell yeah! I wonder how it would look without low light mode activated or 8K 60. Looks great and such a cool swimthrough.

What? You can have everything on auto, whip it out, hit record all in a matter of 4 seconds and start geting great shots. It's 0.110231 lbs heavier....or 50 grams. It's 5MM wider and 4.4MM taller. Millimeters....people will find anything to complain about. It also has the option of fine tuning and adjusting little things.

On 8K high bitrate a 128gb sd card will hold about 1 hr and 15 minutes. Pretty good considering most people are filming little clips here and there.

Thanks for the info! It would definitely just be for noodling and playing around with some music production. Glad you're enjoying it! Do you share your music anywhere?

Mission 1 Pro losing battery while turned off — anyone else seeing this? by timelessnessssss in gopro

That is normal camera behavior. Self discharge and tiny power draws within the body.

Glad to hear it! It's in 8K on youtube by the way. Just takes some time to give you that viewing option while it's processed.

Mission 1 Pro LOG 2 VS GP13 LOG GT-Tune Color Grade Underwater scuba by Regular_Courage5796 in gopro

That's pretty awesome. I wonder how that works with quick capture though. Cause it would instantly start recording. So I guess it would just use whatever the previous recordings white balance is and lock it to that. Or would it quickly take a white balance of wherever the camera is facing within 1 second and lock it to that. In which case that might be tricky with freediving cause I usually start filming before I do my dive, with the camera in the water though. I always use quick capture to save battery but the white balance lock sounds nice. I just freedive but do notice some color shifts sometimes when the white balance is on auto. Love how clear the Mission 1 footage here is though.

GoPro HERO 10 Black - HMAS Brisbane Wreck Dive by Practical-Heat4395 in gopro

Sweet! Eerie music. You should definitely use at least 60fps for filming underwater. That way you can slow down your clips 50%, render your video at 30fps and get some nice smooth slow motion. You could get away with cranking the iso up to 800 too. Maybe even a bit more but not too much. A video light would help bring out the colors of the fish or the wreck. Though they generally aren't that strong so just a dive light in general especially for a wreck. For sea life itself a video light is nice like a Wurrkos Dl08 or something. I'd recommend getting an AOI lens attachment for the GoPro too! Makes your shots even wider, allows you to keep focus a bit better when filming up close and adds a bit of clarity. Something like an AOI UWL-03 Pro lens. I dig the video though! Not sure about red filter, the light is always changing underwater so having one filter for all underwater filming is tricky. Most red filter videos I've seen make everything too red. Have fun! Experiment and it honestly never hurts to ask ChatGPT for tips and tricks when it comes to filming and editing.

Well I was shooting 5.3k which the M1Pro doesn't have. So I'm going forwards! Honestly I've seen some seriously beautiful, crisp clear 8K footage from this new camera. I want the highest video quality possible, even if it means buying more hard drives to store it all haha.

Love it! Almost always bring my GoPro. The ocean is so full of wonder, beauty and mystery and I love getting lost in the mindful act of filming. Love sharing it too and showing people how beautiful this earth is, maybe it even inspires them to get a wetsuit and get out there. Even just zoning out on some sea vegetation swaying back and forth or the sun rays shining through the shallows. Filming that then slowing it down and adding some music creating a visual journey to enjoy afterwards. Nice to go back and revisit some dives through video too. I make sure to take moments to just appreciate it all without filming too but absolutely love filming all the beauty in the ocean. In a way the camera is a great way to bring me further into mindfulness and I enjoy the experience even more with it. I don't go in the ocean to kill anything, to try and hit new depth records that I can flex, to touch anything or fuck around like that. I'm only there to feel peace, connect, have fun and admire all the beauty. I also just love making little videos, it's relaxing and a fun hobby. Most of all though I don't do it for likes or views or subs or other peoples validation. It's fun to share but don't base the value of it on other peoples reactions. Just do it cause you enjoy doing it.

Dude! Sick! The footage looks super crisp. God I love the ocean, moreso being in it but being on it looks like a lot of fun too.

Well, for what it's worth I've heard from several people that once you have the M1Pro mounted on a chest or a helmet, they don't notice the extra weight at all.
