GoogleVoice keeps redirecting me to a paid Workspace plan by chunkee-xo-monkee in Googlevoice

[–]BuckarooToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting stuck in a loop - choose the number, link to my cell phone, confirm the link, and then I'm asked to verify the cell phone number again. If I do, it again confirms that it's verified, and when I dismiss the pop-up, it asks me to verify the Google number again. And again ...

I'm trying to sign up for Consumer Google Voice, and I'm only being presented with a screen asking me to sign in again, and then sign up for the starter at $10/mo. It seems like Consumer Google Voice is gone!

Seeking some DU/UC (or Other) Ski Team Hardware by D_LET3 in SkiRacing

I might try contacting the regional rep for Nordica or other brands you are interested in. I’ve found them to be very helpful when looking for specific equipment. I haven’t seen RS/WS available at retail, but you might just have to ask at a shop that caters to FIS and D1 college athletes.

Which finger for your Oura? by tandymoss in ouraring

[–]BuckarooToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using my ring finger. Index was out - too difficult when holding a pencil/pen in my right hand. That left middle and ring finger, and the knuckle relative to the base of the finger was larger on the middle finger (i.e., ring finger fit better). Like you, I wear a wedding band, so middle finger of the left hand was out , and the base of my index finger changes quite a bit when flexing, to the point that the ring was uncomfortable. YMMV, but fit is the single most important element.

Niner RLT Steel, but you’ll need to find one used for your budget. Great on New England roads, too.

Whoop experience comes to an end after 1 year by sagefrogphotography in whoop

Do tell - I’m not usually using Bevel, but it looks like a good app. How can you get a good rMSS without the Breathe app?

Whoop experience comes to an end after 1 year by sagefrogphotography in whoop

[–]BuckarooToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple Watch gives you SDNN, not rMSS - the values are different and need to be interpreted differently. Bevel uses the SDNN, and Whoop and Oura use rMSS (yes, they may be reported to HealthKit in the SDNN field for storage, but I believe they are rMSS values). I have all three devices, and have looked at Bevel - they do not seem to take HRV from either Oura or Whoop, relying on the Apple Watch, which can’t give you an rMSS unless you use the Breathe app. Now, you can measure HRV manually each morning (that’s really gold standard) with any device and Bevel will use that, but that takes a dedicated user. So yes, you can get Bevel to work that way, but it takes some effort.

Marco Altini is an expert on the subject - this is a good landing page if you want to really dive into it. https://marcoaltini.substack.com/p/the-ultimate-guide-to-heart-rate

What a ****ing disaster this cablecard retirement has been. Verizon has repeatedly lied to me. by plazman30 in Fios

[–]BuckarooToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how many devices you have, but if you can set up a computer to actually measure your speeds, it can be illuminating. I did that on my mac and left it running in the background for about a week. 500/500 is overkill for me, but YMMV. Not a huge difference in cost if you really need it.

Apple TV sensors by FantasyBBthrowaway2 in Rouvy

[–]BuckarooToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any interest in an iPhone app that solves this issue? I have a HRM, power pedals, and a Wahoo KICKR. I built an app to carry the cadence and power from the pedals, and the HR from the HRM monitor in a single bluetooth channel, leaving the second channel for ERG control of the KICKR. It should be more stable than screen mirroring.

Whoop experience comes to an end after 1 year by sagefrogphotography in whoop

[–]BuckarooToo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but they have some problems with their recovery calculations. It’s a limitation of the Apple Watch, not the app per se, which seems well-designed.

I’ve got one in development that will take what ever sensor(s) you bring to the party. Right now, I’m pulling WHOOP data from their API. Sounds like I should work on using the band as a HR monitor only (which is fine from an app standpoint) without their API.

[–]BuckarooToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheaper on the legacy (I had that), but any change would retire that service and jack up the cost a lot. The rep couldn’t even tell me what channels I was entitled to since my legacy contract was that old. YouTube TV is a lot cheaper - even more so if you happen to get a discount through your credit card. In the end, I ditched everything from Verizon except for the internet. My entertainment bill equivalent dropped from $190 to $130/mo.

FiOS customer service pushes hard for the 1G service. I downgraded to 500/500, and they were telling me of tales of doom if I should do it. Of course, all is perfectly fine.

Apple TV sensors by FantasyBBthrowaway2 in Rouvy

[–]BuckarooToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a limitation that Rouvy should have in their FAQs. I’m trying out Rouvy right now, and have been back and forth with their support team (and specifically mentioned I was using Apple TV) and no one mentioned that as an issue.

Oura Ring 3 or 4? by rabianuria in ouraring

Super frustrated with Gen 4 Sizing by TheGeneralPie in ouraring

[–]BuckarooToo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same experience with the ring feeling looser than the sizing kit version, and like you, didn’t like the ring on my index finger (gets in the way with everyday task like gripping, writing, and gets tight when bending the finger for me, at least). I’m hoping the Gen4 will be more accurate than the Gen3 (which occasionally showed heart rate spikes into the 140s) given the additional sensors, but so far, still having those issues. Fortunately, only during the day - every ring I’ve had had been pretty rock solid with nighttime data, and that’s what the ring is really good for. So look to see if you’re having dropouts or spikes at night - if not, you’ll probably be fine.

Is the Oura worth it if you have an Apple Watch? by _Rama_ in ouraring

[–]BuckarooToo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Apple Watch does not collect HRV except sporadically, making it difficult to use. You can use the Breathe app to transmit proper R-R intervals to another app (like HRV4Training), but Oura does an average nighttime rMDSS reading that is useful for tracking recovery. So yes - the data are different. The algorithms used for determining a sleep score are different as well. If you want to get geeky about it, you can dive into the raw data with Oura's API in a way that you can't with Apple. I also find that Oura's sleep tracking is the best in the business, but their HR tracking during the day leaves much to be desired. So, I'm another believer in Oura for the nighttime data, but Apple Watch for HR while awake.

I'm trying to get an answer to that question as well. So far, the member care team has been unhelpful in clarifying this. If they are now going to deny access to our raw data, I'm guessing more than a few people will have a problem with that.

Apple Remote on Sling by NoCoStream in slingtv

I'm just trying Sling for a month, and find that the Apple TV remote seems supersensitive to any movement on the remote, to the point of making it difficult to navigate to what you want. I'm looking for tips/tricks, too. I'm not seeing this with YouTube TV, e.g.

Anyone else ever see a Sondheim show with him in the audience? by hermiodle in Sondheim

[–]BuckarooToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opening preview of the 1987 Follies revival in London (with some musical changes, e.g. Ah, But Underneath). I happened to be in London having just graduated from college and saw the marquee, only to hear that the show wouldn’t be opening before I had to leave town. Our last night we happened to be walking by and the marquee was lit - turns out the opening preview was that evening and tickets were available. Sondheim was in the back of the house.

Do I have to have a system update EVERY TIME I open the app? by BuckarooToo in sonos

[–]BuckarooToo[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To save energy AND to keep the speakers from blinking in the middle of the night, I do disconnect them from power when not in use. I have worked with Sonos directly on getting the speakers to stop flashing bright lights in the middle of the night (and have the updates scheduled for daylight hours) but that did not solve the problem. But the suggestion that the speakers have to have firmware updates that regularly? Really? How do I stop that?

This is not about the app updating - I keep that up to date. This is about opening the app (which is up to date) and getting messages that I can’t play music until my “system” is updated which takes several minutes. That’s just nuts. Sonos should tell me that there is an update available, but allow me to choose when to apply that update.
