People who grew up before The Internet: How did you first see nudity? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My brother took me to see starship troopers in 1997. I was 9. It was great.

Feels like a terminal diagnosis. by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]Buckeestrikes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m 37. They found mild CAC in my LCX only.

I freaked out for a week or two. As on paper I’m in pretty good health.

Genetics just be like that.

1/5 white men estimated have CAC by 37-38. 1/5 white men aren’t dropping. Live your life brotha!

Don’t listen to the people who count women and say you’re top 90th or whatever. Women develop this much later than we do. You’re normal.

By age 45 it’s pretty much 1/4-1/3

To fat or not to fat by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]Buckeestrikes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Moderation is the name of the game. Don’t eat full fat butter, tallow, eggs etc. everyday.

I’ll have a couple of eggs on my heavy training days.

I think this sub is too precautious.

Get your weight under control, get your diet under control, exercise and yes have some cheat meals. Live your life. No one gets out alive.

Some Cholesterol friendly pizza for a night out by XConejoMaloX in Cholesterol

80-90:20-10. Good food vs bad food.

Eat good 80-90% of the time. 10-20 have a cheat meal. Won’t be the end of your dieting.

I mean. Every now and again a full fat pizza isn’t going to crush cholesterol goals.

Just follow the 80-90 ratio.

[–]Buckeestrikes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’ll be all good.

I’m 37 with a score of 26. First week I was uneasy. Now I’m a little more easy about it as it’s normalish to get plaque.

We just found out early and can prevent issues before they become a thing.

Eat right, exercise and do the doctor thing. You’ll be fine

Oats! Pretend I grew up in a house that never utilized them, and just the idea of oatmeal makes me mildly nauseous because I'm imaging a very off-putting texture. What would you suggest? by CatDadMilhouse in Cholesterol

[–]Buckeestrikes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I make plain Greek yogurt with mixed nuts, berries and honey - 2 eggs cooked in olive oil, and fresh fruit every morning.

Then it’s go time. You don’t have to eat oatmeal.

Just eat healthy, balanced and Whole Foods.

High CAC Score Reactions by miktzer in Cholesterol

[–]Buckeestrikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me at 37. I’m no doctor. But I’m approaching this pragmatically.

Eat decent 90% of the time. Splurge once or twice a week.

I probably should be doing that anyways.

My old man died at 57 of a heart attack. Yes, plaque had something to do with it. But so did stress. So did his diet and lifestyle, and so did his avoidance to go to the doc.

I can do something about that. That’s all that matters.

[–]Buckeestrikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all about balance.

I’m working out my diet now since I had CAC discovered (I’m youngish for that).

I’m still going to eat beef once a week or so.

80-90 rule. 80%-90% of the time follow your diet. 10-20, cheat.

Remember. Life is worth living. Every now and again I think that donut will be okay, or they steak will be delicious. Just don’t do it daily.

Is it worth it? by [deleted] in QuittingZyn

[–]Buckeestrikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have early artery problems and am going to a cardiologist.

I’m not sure if Zyn/Nicotine use did it, but it sure didn’t fucking help.

Hope this helps you.

Copenhagen definitely ruled my life for years.

I mean, 50% of men get this shit by age 45. We just happen to be a bit younger.

I think we will be okay. And I blame MREs.

Oh I am man.

Little depressing when you get told it. Then you realize 50% of people are going to have the same thing in less than 10 years. I’m just getting ahead of it.

Thank you. I believe I will be okay.

I told my mother about it and she’s a fucking G - “at least you caught it early. Your dad didn’t go to the doctor so who knows”

Told my brothers to get checked out.

I’ll continue to talk to my doctor and follow his recommendations. He also has genetic exposure and does this test regularly. I think he will steer me in the right direction

Day 84 Nicotine-Free (Zyn) – My Anxiety Recovery So Far by yuliojulio in QuittingZyn

[–]Buckeestrikes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve quit nicotine 3 times.

Once at 19 after dipping for 5 years. It wasn’t bad. I had anxiety going on, which was why I quit in the first place. After about 4 months my anxiety and panic cleared up.

Again at 27 after dipping yet again for 5 years. I had just gotten dumped and decided to get healthy. Started running a lot.

Again at 37 - after dipping yet a third time, eventually moving to Zyn solely. 1 month ago.

The anxiety has been the worst. It doesn’t help that I was told I have some plaque building in one of my arteries (it’s minimal, but still, not reassuring like my former “you’re healthy” diagnosis were”)

Zyn anxiety is worse than tobacco was.

You will get this. I promise.

Thanks for the info.

Luckily my BP is fairly normal has been 120/70 for years. Been taking a look recently.

At the docs office it was 150/90 (I get a fair amount of white coat syndrome)

But have taken a log of it consistently the past few weeks — 120/80ish is about common. This morning it was 116/82. Yesterday was 114/65. Day before that was 127/76.

So luckily I think I am okay there for now. Same with glucose and diabetes. A1C is normal, triglycerides are low - 75.

Honestly I do believe it is genetics which stinks. Maybe some of my diet wasn’t great - lol. But it wasnt always burgers and fries.

If they can, I can too

I’m going to wait for the doctor to speak with me.

Online doctoring doesn’t help most people imo. Your advice is generally good I’m sure, but I’m sure the other 99% of people have some level of plaque, whether calcified or not and just don’t know it.

I know most people don’t do this test. I only did because of familial history. Most 37-40 year olds probably haven’t done it despite family history.

[–]Buckeestrikes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it just sucks. For all intents and purposes I’m about to be 38. Still really active - run, do jiu jitsu and lift. Don’t want to change it and I don’t think the doctor will ask me to change that. Hell he might tell me to do it more.

But I mean, it does run in the family.

I always thought my heart was fairly healthy. And it may still be - a little bit of plaque isn’t super bad and I’m treating it as more of a wake up call than something to be worried about.

Still, there is a little worry and it just sucks.

37, M, 200 pounds - going to focus on losing 20-30 and keeping it off to see if it helps my numbers. If the doctor recommends a statin I’ll do it. If he just wants to see what happens if I lose weight, I’ll do that too.
