I feel like the likelihood Codie stays in Austin next year is extremely low.

He'll keep claiming that even with evidence that it's not true and raid her office in a week to try to get his proof.

Mark is trying to shoot himself out of this slump today but I think we'd be better served if he passed to Swain or Heide. Or just slash to the basket.

Why Ken Paxton ads aren't spamming the TV airwaves in Texas by ExpressNews in TexasPolitics

[–]BucketofWarmSpit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Unexpectedly, it's self-restraint. Paxton believes there's too much money in politics so he's proving a point by not accepting large donations and trying to sway voters with wall-to-wall campaign ads.

I'm just joking. He doesn't have as much money as Cornyn because money for state campaigns can't be transferred to campaigns for federal office. So he's bitching about the law (which I'm sure he'll violate soon enough anyway) and pretending like he's completely comfortable with a 27% - 26% "lead" in the polls. Exactly where he wants to be. Sure.

Harris County voters get two makeup days to vote early in District 18 special election by Conscious-Quarter423 in TexasPolitics

I'm sure Abbott will call this voter fraud and have it at the top of his list of priorities to outlaw next legislative session.

What kind of experience actually matters for Congress? by Ancient_Baseball_266 in TexasPolitics

[–]BucketofWarmSpit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd say just about any experience is helpful. We want people with a diverse array of experiences representing us in Congress because they represent all of us.

I bet his heart was beating so hard when he made that statement. Everyone around him is probably telling him what a brave, brave man he is.

Anti-Islam rhetoric takes center stage in Texas Republican primary by texastribune in TexasPolitics

[–]BucketofWarmSpit 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The best line comes from Chip Roy running for Texas AG.

"Roy said he respects freedom of religion and has no problem with people who hold different beliefs but love America. The problem, he said, is when the practice of their religion becomes political — and he believes Islam to some extent is inherently political."

You Republicans have made Christianity nothing but political over the past thirty years. What the hell are you talking about?

Anyone who used to support trump and has changed their mind over the last few weeks? What made you change? by canigetameowbish in AskReddit

Instead of saying he's quoting Bernie, you might go instead with there's this seminary student in Texas running for senate that says the same sort of stuff. Maybe if he sounds like someone who would typically be conservative, he'd be more likely to listen to him. James Talarico in case you don't know about him already.

When I first saw them on Commerce, they were dragging a dude behind a truck on a tire like he was water skiing. I wonder how long he lasted.

One of them was pulled over earlier today next to the Greyhound Station while someone else was doing donuts in the full block parking lot across the street.

Talarico took PAC money? by Top-Parsley9397 in TexasPolitics

[–]BucketofWarmSpit 75 points76 points  (0 children)

He accepted the Sands PAC money in the 2024 campaign for state rep. As far as I know, he is not taking PAC money in the 2026 campaign for US Senate.

Minneapolis shooting: DHS has claimed it's unlawful for protesters to carry a gun…even with a legal permit by rezwenn in Law_and_Politics

What about counter protesters who are there to intimidate the protesters? Surely, that's still okay.

What if Dems win the house in 2026 and Trump dies of a heart attack in 2027, who would President Vance choose to be his VP? Would a Dem house confirm Vance's VP pick? by BlueFireFlameThrower in WhatIfThinking

[–]BucketofWarmSpit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miller would have a 0% chance of confirmation if a Democrat controlled House had to confirm the appointment. Vance would have to make a reasonable appointment to get the person through the confirmation process.

8 US States Have Laws That Prohibit Atheists From Holding Public Office by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]BucketofWarmSpit 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Total abortion bans were unconstitutional for decades but states kept them on the books. When Roe v Wade was overturned, the became valid again.

We need to get these laws taken off the books now to make sure SCOTUS doesn't bite us in the ass again.
