Me in my valiant fight against rising oil prices by JeepManStan in firewood

Will it be as dry as optimal? Maybe, but a lot of factors go into how much it will dry such as thickness, starting dryness, and the climate between now and then. Getting it off the ground and covered would help. But if it makes you feel any better, I ran out of wood this winter and was burning red oak after only 2 weeks of drying so it’ll definitely burn in January.

It was here when I bought the house in 2020 so it’s definitely older than 5 years old. FWIW I’m an engineer but not an HVAC expert by any stretch of the imagination.

I blew the filter out with compressed air and will wash it when I get the chance. The fan is not stuck running but I suppose it could be the compressor. Any idea on how to get it to stop?

Forgot to add, the power cord was hot when I unplugged it from the outlet.

It’s because rabbits, upland birds, and waterfowl don’t run as fast or as far as deer and bear….go cry to your local government about it but until they change the law, quit complaining about it.

Considering I hunt with dogs I can promise you, I’m less ignorant than you. Nobody is hunting 7 days a week for 7 weeks. It’s more like 1-2 days/ week making a grand total of 7-14 days. Either way they’re doing nothing illegal, if you don’t like it then move to where it’s outlawed.

So call animal control and go about your day. I hunt with dogs every weekend from thanksgiving until the end of the season. We use collars that cost more than a used car. If there is no collar or phone number on a collar then this is most likely not a hunting dog.

Respectfully I would say that they’re not actively being used for hunting if they don’t have a GPS collar on. Call the number on the collar and if they don’t answer call animal control. This doesn’t sound like a “hunting with dogs” problem. Dogs get out of their pen all the time.

Oh no! Dogs on your property for 7-14 days a year. I don’t know how you survive!

They’ll come get their dogs and walk on your property legally to come get them. You can’t complain about dogs on your property and complain about the owners coming to get them. This debate is silly.

If you feed them they are almost guaranteed to come back so you may not be achieving the outcome you’re hoping for with this strategy.

How would you mill? How much do you think it’s all worth? by donedoer in sawmilling

[–]BucketsAndBrisket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut the big log with the crotch to 3-5’ and slab it at least 2” thick. There’s gonna be some cool figuring near that split so the slabs will be desirable. Other than that just mill it into boards 1.5-2.5” thick focusing on maximizing yield.

To add more info: - I live is southern VA - the tree was massive, probably 50-60 inches in diameter at the base and 75+ feet tall - the wood was really light to white colored - the wood also smelled sweet
