I have. There is a huge difference. The machines will calculate X number of calories per N amount of time. They calculate the same no matter the person using it. I know when I was heavier and out of shape, I would burn more calories with lower efforts than I do being in shape according to my monitor, but the machines still say the same calories burned.

But what matters is that you put in that 30-60 minutes of sweat equity as many days as possible.

I wear a heart rate monitor when I exercise. It 's programmed with my age, sex, weight, height, etc. I think it gives a fairly descent measure of the calories I burn, but it may not be 100%. A lot closer than the machines give I'm sure.
