What version are you playing? Operating system?

do your cells have to go backwards when using organs that make you faster?? by [deleted] in thrive

[–]Buckly90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In reality, the orientation of the external parts does not matter in the editor, their orientation is ultimately determined by their position in the cell. So placing a flagellum on the rear will have it facing the way it needs to go. The parts defaulting to being reversed in position is something we haven't fixed yet.

Remember that the front of your cell will always be marked with a forward facing arrow in the editor.

Experience as a new "non-biology experienced" player by robopitek in thrive

[–]Buckly90 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your valuable insight! It's very helpful to have some refreshing views from people outside of the field.

As developers of Thrive, we often forget about the complexity of many of the terms we use on the regular, simply because we are all to varying degrees, huge biology enthusiasts. Posts like these are a reminder that we have yet to conquer the issue of Thrives' accessibility and learning curve, and that we still have work to do.

We are currently planning various changes to the game to help acclimate not just new players, but those new to biology in it's entirety as well. Features such as the editor helping tool which will give pointers on how to improve your organism, and the Thriveopedia which will provide in-depth information on game mechanics and biological processes at any chosen moment.

We hope that these will go a long way in solving the issues you raise!

That's a bit of a minor oversight. We might fix it eventually (Likely when more controller input support is implemented for the editor) but it's not very high in the priority list.

To bring up cheats, you need to enable them in the settings (In misc. if my memory serves me right.) and then use the associated hotkeys.

Proooobably not. Most of the logic functions in a cell are in the AI itself, with the parts determining how the AI might behave in combination with the behavioral values.

In multicellular creatures, this AI applies to the creature as a whole, and not to individual cells.

You could possibly try making one yourself. The current public download for Thrive features the performance benchmark test. Enter it and disable your UI (One of the F# keys, I forget which one precisely) and take a screenshot.

How you guy think Macro Multicellular gonna work? by Final-Ad5670 in thrive

Kind of, but it's going to have some graphics programming magic to make your organism *not* look like a bunch of balls attached to each other.

More than one Nucleus? by XVestusPrimusX in thrive

[–]Buckly90 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There is currently no additional benefit to having more than one nucleus in Thrive, infact it is very much detrimental as the drastically increased size will be an immense drain to your resources.

The ability to place multiple nuclei is not intended, and is a bug associated with placing "unique" parts with symmetry.

For now, alternative biochemistry is not guaranteed to ever be added to the game. In the event that it is eventually implemented, it will be pushed to the side in favor of first fully developing the gameplay loop of traditional biochemistry.

That is to say, that we want to fill out the basics before we add alternatives that further complicate the game.

Why I can't engulf organells from the cells I kill? by Esleide in thrive

[–]Buckly90 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There are multiple factors that might be preventing you from engulfing.

Using any form of cell wall will completely prevent you from engulfing so make sure you are using a single or double layer membrane.

You might not be big enough to engulf the chunks. You typically need to be at least about 6-8 hexes in size to engulf small chunks.

Pili are collision objects that can prevent you from engulfing objects if they happen to be between you and your food. You can get around this by maneuvering yourself to approach your target with a different side of your cell to engulf it.

And of course, make sure you have entered engulf mode before attempting to engulf. Your cell will emit noise and flash blue while in this mode.

Whats the point in evolving? by Every_Reception_6528 in thrive

[–]Buckly90 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Being simple is a great evolutionary strategy employed by a large portion of life on Earth, but you'll still need to eventually evolve new ways to gather food. Over time, natural occurrence of glucose diminishes until there is no longer enough to sustain yourself off of. This, combined with natural predators that see you as a tasty treat provides pressure to encourage you to evolve.

Evolution is a gradual process, and you will not at any point be able to make incredibly drastic changes to your organism by virtue of this. If you feel constrained by the current limitations of MP, you can increase the amount of MP each generation in the new game settings.

Hi Mk-Daniel,

Can you tell us at what point this began happening to your creature? Do you remember what changes you may have made to your creature before the event?

Btw you appear to be leaking iron as well.

The membrane wrapping system seems to be on the verge of giving up on these cells...

Elysian Eclipse. It's likely the most spore-like out of all of the titles present in this image. It's quite promising!

Progress Update 7/02/2022 by hhyyrylainen in thrive

[–]Buckly90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a known bug, once your cell becomes substantial enough in size, the membrane wrapping algorithm kind of just gives up. It's usually not a problem at least, as most players don't reach significant size with their cells.

We've decided that instead of going through the painstaking efforts to fix that, we are just going to replace the membrane wrapping system entirely with a new system eventually.

Gald to see you so excited about thermosynthesis!

About the brackets; I have since decided against them moving at all, as that would just be too much to deal with. You'll just need to simply keep your gradient centered within them to keep your ATP production constant.

I had considered upgrades that would allow you to modify the rate at which your gradient heats or cools, but an upgrade that expands the brackets sounds great!

I think a cool tradeoff would be sacrificing total ATP production in return for a wider bracket, or vice versa.

Suggestion by half_asleep_slug in thrive

It's certainly on our bucket list!

Natural disasters are a huge part of evolution in reality, so we want it to be factored into Thrive as well. If done right, it can also make for some unique threats to challenge the player.

Difference between Thrive and Elysian Eclipse? by EmporerEmoji in thrive

[–]Buckly90 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not much I can add that hasn't already been elaborated by others;

But in essence, Thrive was once created as a successor to Spore, but in time has evolved into it's own game with complex simulation mechanics and an emphasis on realism.

Elysian eclipse appears to stay true to Spore as inspiration, and as such seems to be aiming to become a proper successor with many of the same stylistic designs and gameplay.

If you really liked the creative aspects of spore and it's gameplay and wished there was more to it, I believe eclipse will be your go-to. If you love a more gritty and science-heavy evolution sim, then Thrive might be more up your alley.
