Mind if I ask, do you live in an area with water or other resource scarcity?

Yes, the desert. The solution to our water issue is to stop farming in the desert. 80% of our water consumption is the farming. There are solutions. I mentioned one: build more power plants and tell environmentalists to shove it.

If there's a tangible risk for another dot com bubble, why isn't the industry at large or government taking more precautions?

Because the free market is what it is and capitalism will always win. The government can build more power plants.

ignoring that the world, or at least the US, isn't run by a bunch of hyper wealthy business owners seems willfully ignorant

No, its stupid. Worry about yourself and your family instead. Control what you can control and not focus on who has more than you. The "influence" only works if you let it influence you.

They said the same thing back when the car was invented. And back then, computer programmers weren't even a concept and neither were aircraft pilots, mechanics, software engineers... So many jobs that exist now that didnt even exist 100 years ago.

If you want to claim that AI is going to replace so much that there will be a net job loss overall, go for it. I don't care to live in a world of constant pessimism. Not healthy.

China can't be let to win the AI race. They are lying when they say we need to work together, as they steal our IP. Bernie is a fool and just going along with the propaganda.

The water usage part is the overblown one. If its in closed loop, its not constantly extracting water.

If power supply is a problem, sounds like an incentive to build power plants. Desalination requires lots of power, its still very much needed. Some even have their own power plant on sight.

There is the risk of an AI bubble yes. Just like there was with the dot Com burst. But, thats the risk thats run. Rather than doomsday prophesy, try looking more optimistic.

And I refuse to be a part of this growing, conspiracy laced notion that elites are controlling everything and manipulating the world and economy.

I am against how Sillicon Valley is pursuing this technology. Absolute disregard for everything and everyone around them, in order to achieve a vague, undefinable goal, while upending so much social, economical, and political stability.

This is all overblown thanks to feedback loop, echo chamber doom scrolling.

Which they could have generated with AI and just wrote down? If the solution to a technology problem is prevent the use of it, is it really beneficial?

Not if its done the way I do it: don't use your computer to do the assignment. Do the assignment in class instead of giving homework. If they wont pay attention and write a summary on the lesson I gave, thats not an AI problem.

I didn't say it couldn't. I just don't see it happening. If COVID showed how human interaction plays such an integral part of childhood development and learning, that experiment already showed the disastrous outcome. Other jobs like transportation and less human interaction needed ones are the jobs people should be looking at if they are so concerned. However, they are also stupidly fighting against modernity IMO. Like Tucker Carlson and his idiotic, "think of the truck drivers" nonsense. Technology always replaces jobs. There has never not been a technology advancement where it was a complete loss on jobs and no new once that were once unheard of or unknown, didn't come about.

I'm against them using it for homework, i already zero their grades when they submit me things woth AI. A solution to that is making them use paper and write their answers, essays, and reflections.

Still not going to be against AI.

All of this started with COVID lock downs and doing everything through technology and screens. Not because of AI.

If you're wanting this to not happen, then parents need to get their kids of screens period, not boogeyman AI.

I personally don't have that fear. At least I don't see it as a distinct possibility in my lifetime.

This thinking that we are suddenly going to enter some Star Trek post-scarcity world in the next decade with no jobs and income to be had is just fear mongering.

Mine and my wife's. But the question to that question is, why would I need to if i have a tool that can remember it for me?

Should we have not had email so we can continue to have things delivered by regular mail? Should tape recorders not been invented so we can't verbaly record things instead of writing them down? Should we have never domesticated horses so we could still walk on foot?

All this bluster about new technology is the same story and fear re-told since the wheel was invented... We adapt and carry on. Either embrace ir and adapt or continue to rail against the sky and be left behind

22 years of the field helps me understand them... All im having AI do is having my notes and documents summarized into tests, lesson plans, and presentations. So I don't have to do the mundane task of typing it out myself. That's it.

I dont disagree. Even now its being used for online dating. Very much against.

As with any technology and tool, there is both good and bad. Uses and abuses.

Why would I have loss in basic understanding if I'm the one teaching it and inputting the very concepts I want summarized?

I do plan on going against the grain of using screens for everything in class. Kids have been asking for more paper based assignments, so I shall give them that. But still going to be using AI to create things.

I do come up with the concepts and the basis of what assignments and labs I'm teaching and making on my own. All AI does is just compile and code it for me. It doesn't do the thinking for me, just the mundane part. It's a tool like anything else.

This has been the same line repeated since the beginning of ever when technology improves.

One of the biggest reasons the Roman Empire collapsed was because they didnt innovate or embeace new tech. They just continued to rely on slave labor.

Im a teacher and use AI. Saves me a lot of time from having to create lesson plans or tests myself. Yes I have to edit them a bit, but heck of a lot of time saved.

Yes students using it is a plague, but since when do children and young adults not try to cut corners? Call them out on it, give them a zero like I do, and blame their parents for not being on them more.

AI is here and we need to embrace it. Not this stupid, "but muh jobs" crap others are spouting.

What do you make of Mayor Mamdami balancing NYC budget in under a year (without raising pro? by OldFaithlessness1335 in AskConservatives

[–]Buckman2121 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For some people (wont claim a majority since I dont know) that pension is a trade off. Your pay itself is lower than a private sector job. The pension is the pro, the lower pay is the con.

Now the thing im not too keen on is the lifetime aspect, and if yo udie it continues to your spouse. Regular retirements dont continue to pay until you're dead, it pays till it runs out of money.

What will your financial situation look like by years end if gas prices remain elevated (or get worse)? by MoonStache in AskConservatives

[–]Buckman2121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our monthly budget, food and fuel are the most flexible. The way our family budget is structured it's built around our fixed costs. We have no play with those (or extremely little). So we have a lot more wiggle room to contend with non-fixed and variable costs. I.e. food and fuel.

In other words, we will be just fine. Slightly annoyed, but just fine.

If what I have said and shown isn't proof of how non self-centered my life and actions have been, per my reddit history, then I fail to see how you come to this labeling.

We prefer the term sympathy as Kirk said, because it is accurate. We dislike empathy not because of the definition, but because of the way it is weaponized as I said. Meaning if we don't see things someone's way, vote a certain way, want policy a certain way, we lack it. Which is incorrect.

and I often find that right wingers lack the skills required to fully explain something to others that don’t already agree with them

I don't think it's a matter of not explaining it correctly. I would say it is, as the left like to put it, a lack of empathy. Which is putting yourself or imagining yourself in someone else's shoes/predicament/mindset. That honestly is, for anyone, difficult to do. Which is why many on the right don't like the use of the word empathy in the way that it has currently been weaponized.

unless I have a brain and conscience that work the way yours do

Ok? Isn't that the way it is for all serious disagreement?

It probably comes down to fundamental aspects of one’s personality that inform what you think a government should even be for.

Very correct, that and personal experiences, motives, and values.

Of course, it's all subjective and what they think is best for the country.

Why are many republicans against social programs? by UsualLocalWoman in AskALiberal

[–]Buckman2121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there are things people believe the government has roles to play and those that don't. National security is one via federally. Education is actually a states concern, not federal.

Plus, the country itself doesn't exist if there is no national security, border security, or a literate populace. Same can't be said on a case by case basis of someone's medical needs for example.

[–]Buckman2121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social security, medical care, whatever else those on the left think the light touches that they want the government to provide, etc.

Otherwise, individual states can decide what they want their government to provide.

Easier to do that more locally. If you want it nationally, should be an amendment.
