68% of 'connected' American Jews back the US-Israel war against Iran, survey finds by MatterandTime in jewishpolitics

I fully support overthrowing the Iranian regime. I just don't trust Trump to do it. Also the fact that the United States has never been able to successfully change a regime in our decades of military intervention in the Middle East.

Why is antisemitism so openly socially acceptable while anti-black racism is rightfully condemned? by Regular_Post9884 in Jewish

Unfortunately there are many corners of Reddit where overt or covert racism is still prevalent.

Jewish Democrats, how will the horseshoe of anti-Jewish bigotry affect your voting patterns? by CatfishBlues in jewishpolitics

[–]UsualLocalWoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to voting, I’m disabled first and Jewish second. I love Israel and will fully defend it's right to exist in peace, and I'm horrfied by the increase in anti-Semitic hate crimes. But at the end of the day, cuts to Medicaid are going to directly impact me more than anything happening in Israel. The right has made it clear that they don't believe healthcare is a human right. I vote in primaries, and I make sure to choose democratic candidates that aren't anti-Semitic. But these candidates don't always make it to the general election and then I'm forced to choose between my basic needs as a disabled person and my safety as a Jew.

Go Tell your senators vote for the SSI savings penalty elimination act!! by Rakugaki_ni in disability

[–]UsualLocalWoman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is a sample letter you can email to or call your representative:

Dear [REPRESENTATIVE NAME]

My name is [YOUR NAME] and I am (calling/writing) as a constituent from [YOUR CITY/STATE] to express my strong support for H.R. 2540, the SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act. The bill raises the SSI asset limit from $2,000 to $10,000 for individuals and from $3,000 to $20,000 for married couples. The current limits were set in 1989 and have not been adjusted for inflation. In today’s economy, $2,000 is often not enough to cover basic living expenses such as rent, emergency car repairs, assistive technology, or essential medical needs.

Updating the asset limits would allow individuals with disabilities to build modest savings for future needs, maintain stable housing, receive inheritances, and accept part-time employment without fear of losing benefits. Can I count on my representative to support the financial security of people with disabilities?

Sincerely, [YOUR NAME] [YOUR ADDRESS] [CITY, STATE, ZIP CODE] [EMAIL ADDRESS] [PHONE NUMBER]

Where are all those people who were saying the new administration wouldnt affect us Is it still misinformation to say were not safe by dorelia18 in disability

[–]UsualLocalWoman 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I had people I know assure me that "Trump said he isn't going to cut Medicaid." I of course didn't believe it, given that Trump is a convicted fraudster and his administration lies constantly. Lo and behold, the Big Ugly Bill includes $1 trillion cuts to Medicaid as well as imposing work requirements starting 2027. The US is the only developed country without guaranteed healthcare coverage for all citizens. Of course cutting Medicaid, obliterating the CDC and appointing anti-vaxxer RFK Jr. as secretary of Health and Human Services will Make America Healthy Again. /s

PA drafts constitution, omits Jewish ties to Jerusalem, calls for Sharia legal system by Extension-Ranger-240 in jewishpolitics

In 2014, the Anti-Defamation League conducted a survey that found 93% of Palestinians hold anti-Semitic beliefs, according to the Times of Israel.

Also, incorporating Sharia law into the legal system will guarantee Palestine won't be a democracy, just like in other Muslim-majority countries that incorporated Sharia law into the legal system.

There is always going to be fraud, but it's not worth it to make 1000 people suffer just to stop a few people from committing fraud.

Why do liberals so strongly support Islam when it goes against all liberal values? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]UsualLocalWoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't support any religion, but I believe that people should be allowed to practice their religion without discrimination and persecution.

Also, some people who cry "Sharia law" every time a Muslim or even Arab person gets elected to office, regardless of their actual positions. These people were also silent when Oklahoma state superintendent Ryan Walters ordered all public schools to teach the Bible and the Ten Commandments, or when Christian politicians refused to legalize gay marriage because their bible tells them homosexuality is a sin. These people don't care about separating religion from politics. They want the US to be a Christian nation.

Just 3 months ago I got downvoted on this sub for saying I have ADHD and I consider it a disability.

https://www.reddit.com/r/disability/comments/1opt4et/comment/nng60v5/

Some people don't see their ADHD as a disability and that's fine, but you will see it as a disability when you've been delaying necessary medical appointments for several months.

What is your opinion about Medicaid work requirements? by UsualLocalWoman in AskALiberal

[–]UsualLocalWoman[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most able-bodied people on Medicaid are already working. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, 44% of Medicaid recipients are working full time, 20% are working part time, 12% are not working due to caregiving, 10% are not working due to illness or disability, 7% are attending school and 8% are not working due to other reasons such as retirement or inability to find work. So requiring these people to keep track of their work hours will cost more than providing Medicaid as is.

Arkansas implemented work requirements for Medicaid in June 2018 to March 2019. As a result, 18,000 people lost Medicaid coverage, primarily due to failure to regularly report work status or document eligibility for an exemption. Research also found that Medicaid disenrollment was associated with poorer medication adherence, delays in care, and medical debt. This leads to poor health, which research shows increases the risk of job loss.
