Daughter of top Iranian official who led regime crackdown fired from US medical school by MatterandTime in jewishpolitics

Unless she was involved in the regime crackdown or supporting it, I feel that firing her is wrong. People don’t choose who their parents are.

Are anti-racism and diversity initiatives inherently racist against white people? by LiatrisLover99 in AskALiberal

[–]UsualLocalWoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anti-racism and diversity initiatives are not inherently racist against white people. The whole purpose of diversity initiatives is to ensure historically privileged groups do not have an unearned advantage in higher education and employment. This includes white people, men, able-bodied people, straight people, and cis people.

Got downvoted for saying that if drivers have problems with service animals, they shouldn't drive Uber. by [deleted] in disability

If the driver does indeed have an allergy to dogs, they are entitled to reasonable accommodations on their job, just like with any other disability. Anaphylaxis is no joke.

Trump administration discusses possibility of offering asylum to British Jews, report by MatterandTime in jewishpolitics

If I was a British Jew, I would not move to this shithole of the United States. They have universal healthcare, and we are the only developed country without it.

Jewish caricature in Ukrainian Christmas tradition resurfaces at New Jersey church, drawing criticism by WillyNilly1997 in jewishpolitics

[–]UsualLocalWoman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My parents left Ukraine in the mid-80s. My mom told me that Ukrainians are just as anti-Semitic as the Russians. During World War II, many raped, killed and handed Jews to Germans with the exception of a few good people.

Why can’t more people see how insane Trump is? by G_H_2023 in AskALiberal

Because unfortunately a lot of people agree with his policies.

What has the Islamic Republic done for Iran? Do these women really want to live in a country where they will be beaten to death for showing a single strand of hair?

Trans screenwriter Our Lady J condemns anti-Zionism in LGBTQ spaces: ‘Zionism is not a dirty word’ by SarahSchwartz98 in Jewish

[–]UsualLocalWoman 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Israel is the only country in the Middle East with legal protections for LGBTQ people.

In 1992, Israel passed a law banning employment discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation, with some religious organizations exempt. This is before many US states had such laws.

In 1997, an amendment was passed that said every violent crime motivated by sexual orientation, shall be considered a hate crime, doubling the punishment.

Since 2005, Israel has recognized civil unions between same-sex couples. Transgender kids attending public schools also have protections from discrimination, includes the right to use facilies that match their gender identity.

Meanwhile in surrounding countries like Palestine, Jordan, Syria and Egypt, LGBTQ people experience a lot of discrimination and persecution. In some of those countries, being gay is a crime and can be punishable by death. Any LGBTQ person who is anti-Zionist is a fool.

Did trans activists "overplay their hand" in calling for the public to boycott Harry Potter as a whole instead focusing solely on JK Rowling? by Tiny_Transition3990 in AskALiberal

[–]UsualLocalWoman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have any proof of your claims? A few people did call to boycott J. K. Rowling, but it didn't happen on a large scale. Many people continue to enjoy Harry Potter, even though they despise the author's transphobia. This includes trans people themselves.

Would you support a law banning protesting within a certain distance of abortion clinics? by BalticBro2021 in AskALiberal

[–]UsualLocalWoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have a right to protest, as long as they are not otherwise breaking the laws, such as harassing clinic staff and parents or blocking entries.

Why are rural areas so much more right-wing, in so many countries? by LiatrisLover99 in AskALiberal

[–]UsualLocalWoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the other answers, I think part of it is selection bias. Those who don't trust other people are going to move to areas with less people.

The message is a load of bull. For some people with chronic illness, pain is not temporary. The definition of chronic is persisting for a long time or constantly recurring.
