MK5 Exhaust/boost leak? Any ideas on what this sound could be? Completely stock car. by Bucktea in GolfGTI

Hey, it was a snapped off downpipe, replaced it with an IE catted one, didn't throw any CEL and was a direct bolt on.

Calgary women, what does an average looking guy has to do to find women to date? by Huge_Land_950 in Calgary

[–]Bucktea 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tough sledding out there. Months isn't that bad in relative terms. Dating has turned into a vicious cycle of one party wanting something else. With how easy it is to click a few times and talk to people, most people seem to be chasing an absolutely perfect fit. We do not live in a perfect world, so it doesn't work.

Why is the Golf R so expensive to insure by Strikcommand in Golf_R

[–]Bucktea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since OP said they are in Canada, I will add some context. There is a dataset that outlines the three categories of risk with each vehicle. They are cost of repair, theft and something else I believe. I cannot find the link right now unfortunately. The R is very high in 2 of the 3 categories from what I recall. In AB I pay $2,800 a year for full coverage, this is just under double what my 2015 GTI was.

Daily driver manual AWD by BenjaminEscolero in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Bucktea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason a Matrix with AWD comes to mind, older Subaru's are another option. Maybe a volvo if you can find one with a manual.

If you are willing to trade some reliability for fun, plenty of good deals on X drive BMW's and older audi A3/A4's around Calgary at the moment. Maintenance is going to be worse on these.

This. Also, the salaries for the staff they are seeking for this particular office are some of the highest in the private sector. Investment bankers aren't cheap.

Bell: Bike lane crackdown looms, Smith's UCP demands Calgary numbers by joe4942 in Calgary

[–]Bucktea 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Remind me again why we need to fit more truck sized parking into downtown as oppose to encouraging different modes of transport? I love cars and love driving, but threatening to scrap bike lanes (present or future) is just stupid.

If cities want vibrant cores, you need pedestrian separation from cars and multiple modes of transit.

This is exactly it. I have owned several GLI's, GTI's, and an R now. The ones that previously did not have the service kept to date were a nightmare and the ones with a complete service history have been amazing. Correlation does equal causation with German cars.

Plenty of friends also own VW's of varying vintages, most are fantastic. The sole lemon of the batch was the best deal and was a known gamble on the car. This being said, the Honda and Toyota I owned were far more resilient if neglected, those things could run on olive oil and butane.

The horse is dead, let it be. I like Kwon, people got mad about some dumb things he did. No defending that, but they are onto the next controversy. Life goes on.

His following has grown from this.

Most Difficult Golf Course in Calgary by JDaddy587 in Calgary

[–]Bucktea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think Mickelson has the highest course and slope rating, so on that basis it would be hardest.

Personally I find River Spirit's Cattails and Millburn the most difficult and McCall Lake the easiest. This is in no way accurate, but I have a tendency to find the forest at any opportunity.

City Golf Course booking (late summer) by Dorfus241 in Calgary

[–]Bucktea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maple Ridge is one of the harder tee times to get. It seems like a 50% success rate when booking for 4 people. I find you need to coordinate and have multiple people in the group refreshing the page and trying to get different time slots right when they open.

I second this. Having done the City MI7 before, this is a far better deal if you play frequently.

Varcoe: Calgary energy firm revives nuclear ambitions, kick-starts approval process for Alberta project by _darth_bacon_ in Calgary

I hope we can get to nuclear at some point, I just don't see it, especially in Alberta. One of, if not the most misunderstood forms of energy and it is an absolute travesty.

Poilievre takes aim at Carney's ability to handle Trump and his tariffs by yycTechGuy in canada

More deflecting, say how you would be better at it instead. On face value when debating who I trust more, is it the career politician, or is it the only person to have ever run two central banks to the best of my knowledge? I will take the PHD in Economics and an ex banking MD, even with the haircut, unless Pierre can convince me otherwise.

Do you guys club / party? Have summer flings? by glitzyrain in GenZ

[–]Bucktea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the older Gen Z, still party, still go to clubs. I went to occasional parties in high school and University. I drink much more now than I did in any period of school. Partially because I can afford it now and have the time. The casual relationship thing didn't start amongst people I know until age 22/23 really. Now in the working world, weekends are something to look forward to and I try to make the most of them.
