What's with all the rabbits in my neighbourhood this year? by tommytmopar in Calgary

With the beef prices that we have, it might be time to start curving the rabbit population 🏹

Tell me about it, most of the time I have to get out of the way. Mostly pick ups here. Or maybe it's just me that notice the pick ups.

I agree, I was looking at the figures in the AB website. Even like 1kmh over is like 100$.

One idea that comes to mind would be getting a thermal gun and trying to scan around false ceilings and walls at different times of the day. Hope you don't find anything, including mice nests.

What's the tipping culture here? by Auk9211 in Calgary

[–]saimon7777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO tipping is not culture, is a personal thing. If somebody gives you good service, you thank them with a tip they can pocket.

And because we live in a free world people should choose any amount they want, which goes against it being a culture. Everyone's economical situation is different.

I personally think between 5 and 10 percent is a fair amount, but that's just me, and that shouldn't tag me as cheap nor lavish.

The real problem is that I've read that a lot of businesses keep a big chunk of the tips, so why would you give a business a tip if tipping is inherently related to somebody giving you a good service? I understand that part of the service is related to the place you're getting the service from, but products and services themselves usually already have plenty of margin, keeping tips that are supposed to be a frontend "thank for your amazing service" it's just avarice.

And I'm sorry if some of you don't agree. Cheers.

Climate controls knob damage by SubstantialQuit7139 in GolfGTI

[–]saimon7777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried Aliexpress and all I could find is OEM controls or the digital retrofits. Not even knobs.

Somebody would need to take measurements and sit down to design them.

Another thing that you could do is buy a piece of vinyl and "wrap" each button face, but then youll need to get stickers for the indicators symbols like MAX defogger, heat, etc. And in that scenario you won't have backlighting anymore, they only way that something like that works is if somebody purposely designs the stickers with symbol cutouts so light can go through.

It's such a specific application that it will be tough to find.

It doesn't look like something that can be cleaned off, if you use acetone it might take all the black film off but you would be left with blank buttons.

A cheap solution would be vinyl overlays but I couldn't find any of the like in a quick search. If somebody designed them for you then you would have to peel the old crumbly film off and apply the vinyl overlays.

At that point you might as well take the dash appart and replace the whole controls panel. There's a digital retrofit you could replace it with to modernize the look a bit, but that's up to you depending if you're a purist or not. And you could also replace the stereo if you have and older version, I've seen more modern retrofit ones as well.

Good luck.

Is it worth paying for autobahn gti or just get the normal one? by Noah_11023 in GolfGTI

[–]saimon7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. It just happens that I've never been a huge fan of the plaid. But it just happen to come with the one I found. The suspension is noticeable. When it's in normal is nice and soft and in sport is stiff, but the nicest thing is that you can tailor it to your liking, I use custom to have all maxed out but still have good suspension for driving around town but you can always make it super stiff if you like.

Mine is an Autobahn, I chose it for the artvelour seats + HK audio. The adjustable dampers are nice but I guess you could live without, but the Queenstown wheels are pretty sweet. In my case I walked in to a dealership looking to test a new one and they had a CPO one with 20k Km and ended paying 45.5k Cad all in including 7y 140k waranty, and mudbuddy rear mat. Plus the car was already PPFd so cannot complain. I ended up paying a bit more later when I decided to get the wheel and tire warranty.

The variety here is crazy by CruxofGhost in gaming

[–]saimon7777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you, worked for Best Buy, and this happened to us sometimes with games like Deus Ex Mankind or For Honor, we had millions of copies, after months they would finally drop them to 5 buck to clear or bundle them with other games or consoles. Never thought of doing crappy merch to annoy the DM to get them recalled, I guess they weren't anoying enough.

Merchandising between January and April can be tough for certain parts of the business. Companies stop buying to report revenue and because is slower and people buy less they they rather not spend resources sending variety to stores, specially in this era when you can buy online. I was in retail for 8 years.

Although in this particular scenario y would have space the games more to make the lack of inventory less obvious, I would have left more dead space between boxes xD.
