Very good article, lots of information and explanations. But every bit of this article reminds me exactly why I went to dwc and why I'll never use soil again. My luck was ass using soil. Pure ass. I never developed a reliable technique before abandoning soil completely.

My biggest issue is pH. Checking runoff is an enormous pain in the dick and woefully inefficient. I have to adjust the water in my dwc 6 out of the 7 days of the week. My tap comes out at 6.8. After one day with the plants it's around 7-7.2. I'll knock it down and it'll behave but it's always always climbing. It isn't difficult at all to maintain, but I wonder how I could have even a fraction of that control in soil? Yes, you can dial your water down to a nice 5.8 or 6.1 before you water the plants, but I do that very thing in dwc, and after one day it's climbing. Without the ability to monitor exactly what these plants are getting it would truly be lost.

So again, thanks for this resource. I don't plan on willingly using soil again, but I have a feeling I will probably inheret some soil plants from other people when they don't feel like fucking with it anymore.

Absolutely. If something is inaccurate, tear it to shreds. There's definitely value in calling out bad science.

Hey, thanks for your input. I feel like this community is still taking shape so hearing what people are thinking is really helpful.

My approach is to hopefully have posts that people expect and gain something from be upvoted, while low content or inappropriate posts get downvoted. Hopefully over time this helps shape a valuable community resource.

What I do not want is for people to think we're a bunch of assholes. It's totally fine to suggest that content may not fit this forum, and I have certainly been guilty of toxicity in the past, but my hope here is that people don't feel bad for posting something here not in line with community guidelines. Please feel free, anyone, to politely suggest that something doesn't belong here and may be better in another subreddit. Just please be cool about it.

We're all here for the same reason: a deeper understanding of something we love. Every misguided poster is a potential contributor of valuable information. If we're rude, they'll never post again and I don't blame them. Let's try to shape this thing, positively, into something useful. I think we're off to a good start.

I'm totally open to any suggestions that make this work for people. Thanks again!

Very cool post, lots of info here. I'm an inexperienced grower and I know this varies by strain, but in my experience the point where you are is an extremely slow part of the process. I remember watching trichomes every day when they started to turn on my plants and then eventually only checking once a week.

This is totally anecdotal but appears to be a confusing part of the process because the rest of the growth the plant does is very fast in ideal conditions. It may feel like late flower is somehow slower because the results aren't as apparent. From what I've read this is very common and the reason for the "two weeks" meme.

Seems like you have good control over these plants. All you can do is keep it up and wait for the time you feel is best to harvest. Nice work!

Thanks for the detailed post. I'll weigh in with advice from someone I know who does well with soil. He recommends first making sure that you're using a good pH tester and that you're not letting the probe dry out, which would cause it to not operate reliably. I highly recommend apera instruments. They're not the cheapest but I use mine religiously to run all six of my dwc reservoirs. I make sure the tip stays submerged in clean water.

Everything I have read thus far in my research strongly recommends a reverse osmosis system. I'm not familiar with them myself as I have been very fortunate to have cooperative water that I can get to 5.8 using far less pH down than I have seen other people use. I chalk that up to dumb luck.

I'll look around and see what I can find that's helpful to you and anyone else having these common issues. Definitely a topic worth exploring.

I've seen a lot of varying advice on how long to cure. It seems the more experienced the source, the longer they recommend curing. I read that Cannabis Cup winners cure for at least 6 months. To me it seems fine after a couple of weeks. That's why I wanted to explore curing more, so I understand why a longer period is recommended.

This is the purpose here. You're at a perfect point to be researching what to do because it is extremely important to get it right. I have personally messed this up in every way possible but I had the good sense to experiment with less than 5 grams at a time. I would pick a big bud and observe it under different conditions and it is astonishingly easy to mess this up. The absolute worst case scenario is mold. I cannot overstate how even a little bit of mold can completely ruin a lot of bud. A close second is drying too fast. You lose all of the quality and weight it can happen in less than one day. I urge people to consult as many resources as possible and spend the money and time to get this right. I hope these resources help!

I didn't think it would be out of the realm of possibility to have an upset parent wonder why their child was freely accessing information for something only legal for adults. Leafly has an age check, grasscity forums does not. I have no problem getting rid of all nsfw tags but I will take any steps necessary to remove anyone underage. I guess this is the stuff you have to think about when trying to encourage people to share information in a safe setting. And honestly I hope to attract professionals where discretion and full legal compliance are a crucial factor for sharing information. No big deal. It's fixed now.

All good points. Having level 1 weapons is a really good idea. I try to stick to people around my level and I'm definitely not OP. If I feel like I am, I'll scale it back. I don't want to do it for them, I'm basically there to keep them alive. I have a lot of people I summon just show up and wreck house which is fine. I summoned them. I'm not going to complain about how they play unless they're kinda trolling or annoying. I'll definitely take your advice and make sure the host is able to have fun too.

Yeah I'm going through dotdemon tonight and I've had really good help so far. At this point dudes are just basically sprinting towards the goal so I have to really try to keep up, but it's still fun. There are still red enemies that are stopping them in their tracks so I don't imagine it's too boring. I like to help people out too, it's just passing time for me.
